What about those of us who tow to the water? Lets see your tow rigs.

I estimated about 10,000#. Not going to be more than that, but not much less. Depends a lot on the load out of the boat and fuel/water levels. We typically tow with 7/8 full of gas and everything on the boat.

Are you pulling the 44SD with the Ram? ✌️

I tow my kids 18’ Bowrider with either my 96 Cherokee we bought new and still have, or with my Chevy Traverse. Was using the 2015 Traverse, but turned it in a few weeks ago and will be using my 2018 Traverse.
The boat is so light that you hardly know it’s back there.
I hate towing and launching boats in general though.

After not towing for many years I am now back in the trailer boat arena with my vintage 1989 23' Cobalt. I may put her in the water for the summer but she will mostly be on the trailer. At a 5800 lb. towing weight, my wife's Honda Pilot wasn't going to cut it so 3 years ago we bought a really nice '06 F-250 with the 6.0 diesel. I know....the 6.0 is a terrible motor but actually, I did a lot of research before I bought and my research told me the best years were the '06 & '07. And also to look for one the has had no chips, tuners, or modifications. Additionally, the 6.0 is a great motor IF....the issues are corrected properly. So I did just that. I bought a bone-stock '06 one owner with only 68,000 miles from a Ford dealer. They made me a great deal and threw in Ford's Platinum Extended Service Plan that covers all engine issues. And sure enough, at 73,000 miles the EGR cooling system developed an issue so I took it to the dealer and while it was apart Ford had the dealer correct all the known issues with the motor. I am now at over 100,000 miles and it runs great. and I got over $7000 of repairs for 100 bucks.

It is the Lariat with power everything including pedals (for the 5' tall wife), seat heaters (also mostly for the wife), sunroof, etc. It's really a nice truck and I enjoy driving it.

We pull the 2005 260 with a 2017 chev 4x4. She is stowed about five miles from the marina so no long distance for us. It does tow very well but burns allot of gas in the process. Would rather have electric brakes versus surge.

Don't let people give you poop over the 6.0. If you ever lose the head gaskets just spend the money to have head studs put in and you are good to go. They are excellent once that is done and get pretty nice mileage to boot. A really good truck to go along with it, too. Yours is my favorite color combination. I sell a lot of diesel trucks and I like the 6.0 just fine. I tell people all the time that it won't be long people will regard the 6.0 like they do the 7.3 because of how expensive the newer trucks are to repair.

I'm actually restoring a 96 Cobalt 232 as we speak. 7.4 Volvo Duo-prop.

Thanks for the support. I like my truck....a lot. It runs great, plenty of power and I enjoy driving it.

My Cobalt is a 1989 CM23. I am nearing the end of a restoration/refurbishment right now....if the weather will warm up a bit. Cobalt made the "C" Series boats in the '80s and they were called some of the prettiest boats ever built. Mine was only produced for 3 years, '83-'85 and only 84 were ever made. In 1985 they only made 15 and I have serial number 0015 making mine the last one ever made. I just finished 98% of my electrical, installed a new helm and instruments and my running gear is ready. Waiting for the weather to warm up so I can install all of the new carpet and then the upholstered pieces goes back and I'm finished. I would like to see pics of your project.

Hope this pic come through. First attempt. 2008 Envoy. In line 6. Right at the max with the 2009 205 sport. Better to look good than to feel good.

We tow my 1987 SeaRay 230 weekender with my 2008 Chevy 2500hd crew cab LTZ 4x4. Boat weighs in 6400lbs and tows easy with the rear air bags and built duramax. Truck is built motor, built trans and makes 722hp and 1624ft/lbs, but I tow on the 400/800 tune. Motor built at 50k miles and now has 120k without a hiccup. Truck does double duty towing buddy’s 27’ Blackman and running the 1/8 mile at the local drags.

I really haven't even started on it much. That is not the trailer lol. That's what it was sitting on when I bought it. I actually found a 23' Cobalt trailer here locally that had to have been made for it.....except it's green and my boat is blue.

I tow a 300 DA with the same truck. I've been thinking about new rims or having mine epoxy coated along with the nerf bars. I love that look!

Good luck with your project. I love Cobalts. Now that the company was sold to Malibu Boats it will be interesting to see if there are changes. BTW There is a Cobalt Forum. check out www.clubcobalt.net

Is your engine still alive?
Have the same rig and looking at doing a turbo back with EFI live and shift kit. It gives 5 levels from stock to +150hp. Not interested in wearing out tires, just looking to open up the tail and let it breathe with better economy and enhanced turbo braking.
What tuner are you using?

The Admiral upgraded my tow vehicle (and daily driver!) for my birthday.

Not new, but new to me and was garage kept and still very nice... and just what I wanted.

2012 Ford F150 Raptor SVT. Flame Blue with 35k miles.
AFE cold air intake, headers and full catback exhaust along with SCT X4 tuner and stage 2 custom PCM tune.

With my older 2000 F150 4x4 I could feel it struggle at times but I went out in the boat yesterday and towed it with the Raptor and it was like it wasn't even back there.

Anybody know what type boat this is? The Admiral took this shot as we were passing and I didn't get close enough to see the model.
