Late 90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Well I figured it out. The pump works as an accessory when the ignition is turned backwards. Just like the radio but in the port engine. It definitely pulls water from thru the hull. The wife ain't gonna go for this so I'm planning on plumbing it into the freshwater system. Any advice, links and threads to help me get this done? Thanks guys

That's odd that yours draws from the seawater, so do you have a separate pump for this shower? I have the same transom shower but mine uses the freshwater tank and the freshwater pump.

The issue I am trying to figure out now is that the transom shower has great water pressure! But my shower in the cabin has terrible water pressure. I need to figure that one out. I had to replace my water pump last year because it died out so I know the pump is good.

The other issue I am working on now is that my generator is draining my batteries with the blower on. Ah, but you say, the battery charger/inverter should provide enough power to run those and charge the battery. Yes, but the engine bay gets so hot that the battery charger shuts down, lol. The genny alternator should put out enough power to charge those plus run the blowers.

I am still enjoying my 270.

We sold our 95 230DA a couple of months ago and just purchased a 1998 270 Sundancer (9'2" beam) with twin 4.3's (carburated 190 HP), A/C, windlass and diesel generator.
We have a list of items to work on, replace, fix, etc. We have to replace all of the bilge pumps and float switches, replace the water pump, fix/replace the port trim tab cylinder or motor (starboard trim tab works fine), replace one of the Alpha One trim cylinders on the port drive and we weren't able to get the generator to do anything.
I will be going over the boat from bow to stern once the weather warms up (she's covered and stored for the winter).
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on items that I should be paying particular attention to.
Thanks in advance.
Bill

I can list out the things I've done, which a lot are very similar to what you have done. I've had my 2000 for 3 seasons now. I only have a single 7.4mpi.

Pulled the outdrive and adjusted alignment, painted outdrive
Replaced Port trim ram as it was leaking
Rebuild the trim pump because it had thick crud in it (not sure from what, maybe mixing fluids)
Replace the shower drain pump
Plugs, Plugwires (these were a big problem that took me a while to find), cap/rotor
Replaced both batteries
Replaced fresh water pump
Replaced the fan on the back of fridge (fridge quit keeping cold with the fan out)
Replaced the bellows in the vacuflush, replaced the toilet bowl seal ring, replaced the gasket where the waste tube enter the vac chamber
Resealed the front nav lights as the silicone was allowing water to seep into the cabin

And I have the usual list of little things to do. And have replaced some trim items like the slam latches and the sliding cabin door holder broke recently so changed that too.

That's pretty interesting that you have a diesel generator, where is the diesel tank located? I have a kohler gas genset and we use it a good bit since I live in Louisiana and AC is needed sometimes.

I have to remove the cockpit table storage cabinet/enclosure to get a good look at the generator. From what I've researched and talked with Sea Ray about, it appears that the diesel generator was added to the boat. It is not from the factory. It has a diesel fill on the port side and I remember seeing the tank behind the table storage while I was in there removing the plugs to winterize the engines. However, I do not remember exactly where it was located. It was a little crazy that day as I was trying to get as much done in the short time that I had it indoors to get it winterized. I plan to get a better look at it this weekend as it is currently at the storage yard.

I'd be curious to see pics of what you are talking about. On my boat the cockpit table stores in a holder on the underside of the engine hatch. Then when you are standing looking straight down into the bilge the genset is under your feet on a shelf in front of the engine.

Now my genset was also an aftermarket install, I have the receipts from the install done in 2007. So that might not be the factory place but I thought it was.

Correct. We have the same/similar "holder" at the forward area below the engine hatch. I wasn't sure exactly what to call it. The generator sets "behind" that holder in the same place as it would from the factory. I remember seeing a black tank back there that I am assuming is the diesel full tank. I just don't remember if it was between the generator and the table holder or if it was on the starboard side of the generator. I will definitely get some pictures this weekend. I want to remove the table holder and see what I can figure out about the generator (size, mfgr, model #, etc.).

I meant that my table holder it attached to the engine hatch. When you raise the engine hatch up you raise the table up with it.

That's why I am confused. It sounds like your table holder is down in the engine bay in front of the engine.

Sorry, I misunderstood. You are correct. Ours is not attached to the engine hatch. It goes straight down even with the forward side of the opening.. The table slides down into it.

If you watch this video from 3:55 to 4:10, you can see the table storage. This is the same as our is.

I gotcha, watching the video it makes sense. The 4.3's are so much shorter so you have that extra room up front vs my 7.4L. That table would eat up all the space if it were in front of my 7.4. And with the risers having to be in the middle of the compartment I bet the table would be too close, whereas my single has the rises at the outer edges so theres more room over the middle of the bay.

That sort of sucks! Because you dont have easy access to the generator platform. Though I'm sure it's not hard to move that out of the way for maintenance purposes. But I have a remote starter for my genset in the cabin breaker panel. But the gen has to be set to AUTO mode. I don't leave it on AUTO mode when its at home because it draws a current. So when I launch the boat one of my embarking tasks is to reach down and set the genset on AUTO start mode, which I couldn't do with that panel there.

Now you've got me thinking.
We have a remote starter at the cabin panel as well and when we tried to start the generator but nothing happened.
Now I'm wondering if there is an AUTO mode on our as well. I hope that's the case and that might be why it didn't do anything.
Another thing on my list to check this weekend. At least it will be in the mid 40's this weekend.
Although I'm not planning on doing any real work to the boat until early spring, I want to get pictures of everything I can and put a list together of things that I need to do, parts that I need to order, etc.

I know that this thread does not get a lot of activity these days so I figured I would post the work I am doing to our 1998 270SD in hopes of rejuvenating it.
Here are some pics of our cockpit flooring that I cut and test fit yesterday. Now I just have to get it over to the canvas shop to have the binding installed.

Started the interior flooring. I've removed the carpets and sanded the old adhesive off. Yesterday I started installing the vinyl plank flooring. I still have some trim and filler yet to do on these sections. And I have to do the step/wall/threshold the goes into the mid birth. Then I'll start on the table areas. I have also included "before" pics so you can see the condition that the carpet was in when we purchased it this winter.

Hi Guys,

I bought a M606 Clarion and will replace the old xmd1 and remove the CD player. does anybody did that before and have some pic to share? I believe both the head and the CD are attached by screws on the front direct to the wood panel. Is there anything holding the units from the back? if it is, how to get access?
I tried to search old posts but I can not see the old pics on this site. I think it is something to do with the new forum version or so......

By the way, I am assuming I can use all the same connections from the xmd1, am I right? I mean, both the units are compatible no?

Hi all,

Finally wintertime is over and boat is ready for launching tomorrow.
Major jobs this winter were exchange of upper swivelpins + seals and cleaning of the aircoolers of both engines.
Only thing remaining is to change oil and filters when she is back in the water and engines can be run hot.
Looking forward to the summer.

Hello guys my name is Giovanni, I want to apologize to anyone if I double posted something that may be already here but I couldn't find anything specific about my issue.

I'm new to boating and I really don't understand how this refrigerator works or been able to find out what model is it. I know is a norcold but not sure what series. Anyway Every time I plug my shore power everything inthe boat including air works. Now once I disconnect myshore the only things I have available on battery is lights radio and the water pump for the sink and etc.

On my main panel switch shows a button that says ACconverter I believe so I've been trying to figure out if my refrigerator and my AC should be working even when not connected to shore? I want to anticipate that I don'thave a generator.
I'm just really young and can t find a clear answer on the web. I'll thank all of you for you help in advance.

The AC Converter switch it is the battery charger. It has to be on, when in shore power for the batteries to be charged. In order to use refrigerator in 12 volts mode the switch "Outlets/Refrigerator" has to be on.

Inside the motor compartment, port side, close to the batteries.
Do you have the manual? You can download from Searay website or I can send you a pdf.
