Do you still watch NFL football?

Do you still watch on TV or attend NFL football like you did in the past?

I was more interested in the number of votes cast.

I remember at one time seeing the CSR member count somewhere near 10,000 if not mistaken. At the time of this post only 69 votes have been cast that reflect a negative change in viewing habits. The actual count of members of CSR who watch less or no football isn't even 1% of the total members.

One could make the argument that boaters come from a cross section of the voting and consumer population in the country.
I fully agree and was referring to the participants on this site - particularly the Tiki forum.

80 votes cast is not a valid statistical sample. Ratings are down but there are many possible reasons for that which may have nothing to do with players kneeling. The lack of star players such as Peyton Manning, sloppy play due to shortened training camps, bad matchups for prime time games, too many games, big market teams like the Giants and 49rs sucking, warmer than normal weather. The kneeling issue will pass and be forgotten by most over time.
Don't overlook the medias role in blowing issues out of proportion. The sports media needs to fill up 24/7 TV coverage and they spend way more time than needed focusing on player discipline, Goodell's salary, Jerry Jones' antics, etc. The average person wants to hear about their team and football not whether the owners are infighting.

Agree as I often read stuff here from all points of view. What's important for our country is that we continue to support each other regardless of our point of view. Mutual respect and understanding makes us stronger.

As for me, I'm just have a great time being an Eagles fan as it has been a long time coming :D:D

The 80+ sample size is pretty small. I think the only point (and its shaky) you might be able to take out of this is if you have enough money (or dont care about being up to your arse in debt) to pick alternative forms of entertainment as I think most here do, boaters (in general) will opt for something else to spend their time on besides watching nfl football. The more a boaters team sucks (take the browns for instance) the easier it is to completely walk away. If I were an Eagles fan - much tougher decision.

Maybe the next poll question is for those that have given it up completely is what are you doing with the time....

Great question. I used to watch the NFL on Sunday's from about 11am to bedtime. Now that the boat is out of the water for the winter, I split my Sunday's up between watching a couple of Amazon Prime movies and annoying the Admiral.

I believe the data created by the poll is very significant. It was never intended to represent all CSR, but rather to find out what CSR members who like football enough to respond to such poll were doing now. The poll participants likely are the same folks that created a 890 post thread about NFL football in 2015 and any newbies are representative of the folks that have moved on entirely.

I also think that CSR members that have reduced or quit watching are a much bigger deal than many professionally conducted polls illustrate. We have here, generally, a demographic group that can afford everything the NFL sells if they want, including season tickets, away trips, merchandise, and viewership. It is huge to have that valuable a customer forsake a companies products to the degree expressed by the poll results.

I agree that the issues facing the NFL are many but I doubt they can ever put the genie back in the bottle...

I think Mike nailed it. In conversations with people in WA I have found that many, many people have completely stopped watching the NFL.

We just came back from 6 weeks in AZ and in many similar conversations down there I got the same results: Almost all have quit watching NFL games.

It's interesting to note that at the games they seldom show views of the stands on TV. When they do, the stands have many empty seats. We were at a bar a few weeks ago when the 49ers were at home and only about 40%-50% of the seats were occupied.

I think this boycott of the NFL is much larger than any media outlet is letting us know about.

If you look at the statistical data readily available at a number of sites, you'll find that NFL attendance really isn't down at all from 2016. In cases such as Dallas and Green Bay, attendance is actually up by a few percentage points. Seattle is down one percentage point and have averaged 102% stadium capacity (standing room is accounted for) for their home games, down from 103% in 2016. For San Fran, they've sold out every one of their home games even though they suck. So I'm not sure what you guys are looking at, but those are in fact the cold hard numbers. Tv viewership is also on par with 2016.

Anyway to answer the thread's original question..between 18 month old son, wife, crazy work schedule, and working on the boat ..I don't have time for the NFL. For me right now, there are more important things in life.

Todd, the article hits on some great points.

Also not frequently discussed is how the owners in the last CBA agreed to fewer practices in pads hitting. They thought they were giving up nothing to get something. WRONG!!! Much discussion is had concerning QB play and the lack of "franchise" QB's, and while a big issue for teams without a Brady they could hope to give a lesser QB a chance with great line play. Offensive line play is most affected by the lack of live action practice. This coupled with the fact that the college game does not play pocket passer football so incoming linemen have to be taught from scratch. It took a few years for the lack of practice to rear its head, but now linemen are subpar across the league.

The offensive line is the Colts single biggest issue and yet, according to many top draft guides, there were few linemen worthy of first or second round picks. If you cannot protect your QB how can you have a fun fluid game to watch?

You are seeing a lagging indicator. Attendance is based on ticket sales not turnstiles, unless they want to brag about a record. All those games showing empty stadiums are either sold out or close, but no one came. I tix go unsold in social media all the time.

Perhaps you're right ..especially after reading more into SF attendance. But it really seems to be more attributed to their record and not the protest. Anyway reports of attendance going way down as a result of the protest seem to be pretty "muddled at best".

Here's another article about it that I found interesting:

A couple different things are being discussed - TV ratings and attendance. I would venture a guess that people that go to the games are a bit more hard core fans (in general) and would find it more difficult to walk away as opposed to Joe 6 pack switching off the TV.

Great point! Also, most of those tickets are either season ticket holders who have to buy the season or advance sales that were made way before this all really heated up this season.
Television revenue is a big part of the money they pull in.
A comparative analysis of revenue from ads sold before the kneeling really took off this season and for a year afterward will be much more valid, as will the same type of analysis of licensed merchandise sales for the same periods.
I was speaking with someone last Friday that owns two seats but normally only goes to 4 or 5 games and sells the rest on the secondary market to help pay for the season. She said that her and her husband have had a hard time selling their unused tickets this year at face value. They normally go for way more than face value.

Step-son went to the Steeler game last night. Said it looked pretty full and not many empty seats. I think most will agree though that Steeler fans are very hardcore and other than that week 3 'mixup' they have stayed out of that anthem stuff. I was pretty vocal about it after it happened but after hearing the whole story while I still don't agree with it I think they did what they thought was best to try to stay out of it. Since that fiasco that week they have all stood and respected the anthem. That might have alot to do with their relationship and respect for Villanueva. Either way, other than the week 3 screw-up they have played nice with the anthem. I am still watching them the same as before but did skip the next game after their issue.

i'll watch it (sort of) with casual interest to be polite if a game is on where I am at such as a friend's house or boat or at a restaurant......but I won't turn a game on at my house or my boat and I won't attend a game and I will not purchase anything related to the NFL.....not even a NFL related Christmas gift if someone ask for it.....

Bingo, we have a winner. I'm the same way and many people I have talked with feel the same. They won't leave a bar if the game is on but don't really care if it's on or not. And definitely will not buy any NFL gear.

The guys and gals I feel sorry for are the ones who work at the food vendor stands. With crowds down, so are food sales and that is their livelihood.
