Official 400EC thread

I have the 1998 400EC parts manual in my iPad iBooks.
It shows the same battery set-up as my 1995 so, might not solve your quandary but, neat to have.
PM me an email and I can send it to you :)

My 96 400 has 4-starbord and one port battery. In addition to 4-Group 31s mounted port side for inverter....total batteries on board, 9-group 31s.

Ok.....prop question. Have three blade props for my 400, powered by 7.4 mpi Mercruisers. I would like to go to a 4 blade prop to improve maneuvering. First question, what size prop comes on the boat with three blade props? Second question, is anyone with gas power running four blade props and if so what size? Thanks,

Jon

Can’t help with the 4blade question.
My 1995 standard HP gas powered boat has 20 X 20 cupped 3 blade props.
Since you are a 1996 model and have an MPI engine you could possibly be a 20 x 21 pitch propeller.
You would be best to contact Searay through their Website with your HIN and ask them what was originally spec. for your hull/power package.

Anyone have the vacuflush system with holding tank and macerator? Every diagram I've seen shows a valve to switch between dock side pump out and macerator dump via thru hull. I cannot find a valve. I tried to dump via thru hull just to confirm it's working and the system "runs" but nothing happens. Any ideas on where a Y valve might be?

Can’t imagine your is plumbed differently than my 1995..
There is no Y valve. Port side aft outboard and abeam the generator is a thru-hull for the overboard discharge. The pump isn’t a macerator but, a trash pump located near the tank itself. Pump looks like the vacuum pump and pulls from the tank without a Y valve.

some of the 390 and 400 ec from that era were sold with a direct discharge option (as is shown in your manual).
If equipped there would be a y valve located between the vacuum pumps discharge and its inlet into the holding tank. This would allow you to directly flush the toilet out a thru-hull or divert it into the holding tank.

Thanks guys. My manual shows 7 different options for holding tank setups with no indication as to which I have. All but one of the vaccuflush setups have a Y valve except one. I guess that setup is mine because I cannot find a Y valve anywhere. I just can't see real well at the moment - I need to remove the port seat base so I can open that hatch directly over the port engine. My guess at this point is that thru hull is clogged with something and that's why the discharge doesn't work. The sea cock on the thru hull is frozen and I'm hesitant to get too aggressive with it in the water.

If you are in fresh water, and your seacock is frozen closed, I'm not sure I'd worry about it since you can't dump overboard anyway....
I wish it was frozen shut. It's frozen open. This is why I'm wondering why it won't discharge. Since the boat originally was on Long Island, I wonder if the thru hull is clogged with crustaceans of some kind.

It may be. My divers clean my thru hulls monthly when I am in salt water. Next summer, dive under and poke around. The only diver we have in the Chattanooga area (that I know of) is hard to get.

I have 2 Y valves on my 1994 that allow the holding tank to be drained by the dock side pump out, via a vacuum pump or by direct overboard discharge. The Y Valves are located on the engine room bulkhead immediately in front of the Port motor adjacent to the holding tank.

I am trying to attach three pictures I happen to have in my phone showing the valves, the holding tank and the two vacuum pumps I have (I only have one toilet, the second pump only handles the discharge).

Y Valves
Holding Tank (Y Valve is visible on far right)
Vacuum pumps (FYI they look cleaner now as I changed duck bill valves this season)

I'm supposed to have some installed this week. Really looking forward to it and I'll try to remember to post some pics when it's done.

Jonsm114,

I have used it and installed it for around 4 years now I used Infinity stuff for a few years but when they were sold it became a pain. I became a Corinthian dealer last winter and love their stuff better and their staff is great to work with, I have 4 templates ready to send them now I am just waiting a bit longer because I don't want to store the carpet until spring for the installs.

I can only imagine. I live about 30 mins from Infinity and they've been very difficult to buy from. I've been trying since December to buy. Took a month to finally get info for a local dealer and now I'm waiting for an install day. Already behind schedule and I have no idea when they're actually going to do it. This whole process is trying my patience.

Corinthian seems to be the ticket to me...what is the typical cost per square foot to have it patterned, cut, bound and installed? Jon

I don't think they stock my pattern...

Depending on the style of carpet and the difficulty of the pattern it can be between 9 and 15 dollars a square foot for the snap in. When you get in to a glue installation it goes up just because the care that has to be taken not to get glue everywhere.

I have a complete set of cockpit carpet made for me by Corinthian in Teak with black that I had made for a 1995 - 40 Express it was used as a demo for a week.
