I have not seen a 48 Sundancer Owners thread and thought it time to start one.

After owning many Sea Rays I have finally moved to a 48 Sundancer. Any suggestions or thoughts anone would like to give me would be appreciated.
 
We purchased our 48DA in Oct 2015 and absolutely love it. There are not to many owners of the 48DA on this board but those who are have been very helpful. There are also some very good threads you can search to give you some good info and there is a thread on the QSC Cummins engines that is definitely worth reading.

Feel free to fire away with questions and I am sure you will have many chime in with great knowledge and input.

So provide a little info about your 48, hours, where it came from, upgrades you are planning for, trips you are looking to take. All good conversation starters.

I picked up my 2007 48 Dancer in September 2016. So far we have really been enjoying it. Great we finally have our own thread!
 
We currently have a 05 320. The admiral is starting to look at 05 to 07 480da. Anything we should know to look for and to stay away from
 
We moved up from a 2004 390 I must say this is a whole lot more boat in everyway. More systems, more space, more weight, more stability, more everything. We recently ran it from Boston to Brick NJ and really liked the feel for it out in the ocean and in the harbors. As this is my first diesel boat I now understand what everyone talks about on the differences of a gas vs diesel boat. I will never go back.
 
I recently moved my 48 Sundancer from Brick NJ to Nashville TN and used C&J transportation for the move . I found a very good reference from someone on Club SR and found them to be very good. They would check in with me in the morning and afternoon to ensure that I knew what was going on and where they were in the journey. I would highly recommend them and would use them again for a long distance haul.
 
So we finally have our own thread... it will take some participation to move it along and keep it interesting. Where are all of you 48DA's out there?
 
We boat out of Long Island in the Great South Bay. Anyone have a watermaker installed on their 48. We were looking into getting one as there a a few spots we go to regularly that don't supply water.
 
So the watermaker you are referring is for making good clean drinking water? I have sanitized our water tank a number of times over the last 2 yrs and keep fresh water moving through it regularly and keep the large cartridge filter in the cabin under the floor up to date. We don't use it for drinking or cooking per say but do use it when brushing teeth, cleaning dishes and such when we are not on dockside water and sometimes when dockside water is skeptical.

Yes, one of the best features of the boat and we would be lost without it. Perfectly clean for drinking. We go out once a year for two weeks straight and have done that without the 48 touching a dock. We just use the tender when we need to go to shore. We can hose the boat, have long showers etc. I don't have any real good photos of the install but these may help.

The control is mounted over the stbd fuel filters:

The pre filters are mounted between the stringers just forward of the bilge pumps. Filters are stbd and carbon filter is port. The high pressure pump is mounted further forward on the stbd stringer (you can just see part of it in this photo)

The membranes are mounted on the back of the same board that holds the stbd fuel filters and watermaker controls.

The system is an S&K Modular Manual Operation Watermaker 25GPH. If I was to buy another now I would buy the same, or a similar manual operation unit with commercial size pre-filters. If I bought a new boat without a watermaker, it would be one of the first things fitted.

I need to access the salon AC unit. I know that it is behind the sofa but cannot find a way to get to it. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get to the air filter on this unit?
 
Access is from the aft cabin, you need to slide the left bunk to the right and there is a panel in the corner that gives access to the unit.
 
Okay now my research says it's a 60LB Kodiack and I want to know if going to a 55LB Delta/Lewmar plow anchor will be sufficient enough? I am looking to purchase a stainless steel anchor.
 
Does anyone know where to purchase the Stainless Steel Door panels for the galley Norcold refrigerator? Nocrcold will not sell direct and I have not found a reasonable priced outlet as of yet.
 
My boat came with a new blue aft canvas / isinglass rear cover that is made to enclose the upper cockpit to allow the helm station be enclosed with the salon. It has not been out of the boxes that it came in so it new and ready to be used by another 2004 -2012 48 Sundancer. I would be happy to make someone a very good deal on this custom made cover. Please PM if interested.
 
I purchased mine from a local metal shop for about $20 but you can get them on ebay relatively inexpensively, even cut to the right size I believe.

We had it made at a local Sheetmetal shop. Let me guess, its dented from it hitting the aft cabin door? Has anyone came up with a fix for this?
 
Thanks, you are correct dent from hitting the aft cabin door. As good as Sea Ray is you would have thought they would have solved that problem a long time ago.
