260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

i have read it is under where the table stores. but no doubt, it is not in the rear.

NO, my freshwater tank is in the bow. fill is also on top of bow. I know the location that shows in the manual but mine is not like that. there is only the pump in the rear bilge, no tank.
Now I'm really confused. Can you post a picture of your boat? I know that there is nowhere forward of the cabin stairs in my 2005 260 large enough to put a 28 gallon fresh water tank.

I too am curious. I'd love to see this custom fresh water tank.

I really hope your not filling the anchor locker through the hawse pipe. If you over fill the locker the water will pour into the cabin and fill the space under the v-berth. Also IIRC there is no hose running to the bow. What you might be looking at it the electrical conduit.

The water tank should ABSOLUTELY be in the bilge, as the others have said. Now, some years the 240 Sundancer had the tank underneath the bow cushion (where the cabin table stores). Maybe someone added a bow washdown and that's the water line you're seeing?

Either... Someone has done a modification to this boat, or it is a different model. What's your Hull ID #? It starts with SER.

Guys, i am not the only one that has this set up. It isnt custom, but the way searay did it for some reason. just to make sure you all stop thinking im crazy, ill get pictures this weekend. just dont know how to post pictures on here.

afaik the pre 2005 260 had the watertank infront and the 2005+ models have it in the bilge . the 240 has it always below the berth and it takes all space up to the fwd wall of the cabin.

Then mine must have been one of the first in 2005. How can i get to the tank though?

on my 2000, the water tank is in the bilge on the port side, and the manual shows that location as factory.

My 2003SDA had it in the bilge centerline of the boat just forward of the engine room hatch entry.
When you step down and faced forward you would see it.

The water pump was mount top of the water heater.

It's totally possible to put in a 28 gallon tank under the v-berth.

In this time span the 260 DA and 270 AJ have the same hull and the cabin layout is nearly identical. The AJ models have a 28 gallon FW tank is trapezoidal shape installed under the v-berth at the bow. The tank fill is mounted on the port side of the front deck, and the line from the tank runs down the port side to the pump in the engine space. In (most of) the DA models the tank is in the engine space on the port side with the the space under the v-berth used for storage.

I wonder if it's possible that Sea Ray had a couple of hulls intended to be AJ's, and and they changed them to DAs mid-production to account for demand? That might account for the odd tank configuration. The AJs were not exactly the best selling model.

The storage space under the v-berth would be nice but frankly I like having the tank on the centerline as it doesn't disrupt the trim. At 8.34 lbs/gallon, a full tank is 233 lbs and can easily change the trim when the tank is set toward the outside of the hull.

FYI this is a schematic of the 2006 270 AJ water tank. (Pg. 72 from the parts manual)

that gets interesting ! i cannot imagine searay installs the system from an amberjack in a 260 sundancer because the customer gets something not "as designed" .

should you really have an installation like the 240 or 270 amberjack how you get to the watertank ( at least at a 240 , i assume the 260 is pretty similar regarding front if cabin : remove side cushions , remove the vast amount of screws holding the v berth brackets . below that there is another bracket with screws , remove this also . it a littke bit of work , an electric screwdriver helps.

but since many 260 owners jumped in here and nobody seems to have the tank forward please check twice and check then again if your watertank really sits infront . i can only speak of a 240 for sure.

if your tank is in the v-berth like a 270 AJ, you can easily see the top of it. Remove the center cushion, and there is a lift-up panel. Pull that up and the top of the tank is right there. No screws to remove just to see the tank. Getting to the tank outlet would be a different story. That would involve some poking around in the port side lazarette area, and likely removal of a few panels in that area. As you can see from the diagram above the connection is on the left side of the tank.

I have checked more times than i can imagine, lol. It is in the front. Learn things everyday

i believe you , interesting why there are two kind of installations ! you have to remove like said all v berth brackets to get full access ( at least on my boat where i did it to reseal the trailerwinch pickuphook )
