Official 330 Express Cruiser / 340 Amberjack 1997-2003 Thread

Found this test info while scrounging around on the internet and thought I would share. It backs up the performance and fuel burn numbers members have posted in the past.

I have an electrical question I hope someone can answer. On my '97 330 Express Cruiser under the cabin steps I have a DC Main Beaker Panel. There are three 50 amp breakers labeled "control station", "cabin main" and "electronics". I know where the wires go for the control station and cabin main, but I am not sure where the electronics panel is located?
Thanks, Neal

If you look under the dash there is a small hatch below the steering wheel if you open it and look what's mounted on the back wall of the compartment there should be a bus bar with six or eight individual fused blade style fuse box I believe that goes to the electronics breaker under the step that's where all of my electronics feed into when you open that hatch there is a release to allow the hatch to completely drop down because it will only open up partially to expose all the other circuit breaker's that go to various components on the boat

I am familiar with the panel under the helm and the push-button breakers there. After spending some more time poking around under that area I found three 8-gauge wires cut and taped off. They have the small wire labels on them that indicate they come from the Main DC breaker panel under the steps. The small ATO fuse block is fed with a jumper off the buss bar from the other breakers. Why? I have no idea. Since they are taped off I am hoping they are still live. After I test them I will reattach them to the fuse block like they were supposed to be. Thanks for the clarification.

Hello, I noticed you ordered from Great Lakes Canvas in 2015. I placed an order late last year. They called me a week later to tell me they lost the templates. I'm curious to know if you experienced similar issues? I really want to buy this canvas as it's almost half the price of the local guys and I don't mind adding snaps, etc. myself. Thanks.

Tracking number says my Great Lakes canvas is arriving tomorrow!! Excited for the new color but nervous that it might not fit. Guess we'll find out tomorrow :)

New to the forum and new to SeaRay. We just bought a 1999 330 EC out here in MN this October and are dying for open water. This thread has been excellent as I've had a lot of different questions that could have probably been answered here instead of racking my brain.

This boat is a bit of a project as the previous owner didn't use it or maintain it much. When I rolled into my buddies dock he didn't say "nice boat" or "congratulations". He just said: "Shawn, that's the dirtiest boat I've ever seen..." So I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as things get rolling.

There is one weird noise from my starboard engine, it's kind of like a metallic screech when the engine gets over 2500rpms. I thought it was maybe a pulley bearing but the guy that pulled the boat out said it was an air intake or something and wasn't too concerned about it melting down. His techs are ridiculously expensive so I was going to try to tackle this as well as most of the other issues (mainly TLC) that the rig has. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Think Spring!!!

Congratulations and welcome hopefully somebody will chime in on your motor issue sounds a little vague to me I assume you have the MPI fuel injected motor with air intake not sure if it would make that kind of noise .does it do it only under load or if you rev it up in neutral?

Thanks for the response.

Correct on the MPI. I know it does it under load, I can't remember if I intentionally rev'd it up that high in neutral.

Help my blind ass out. Where the hell is the button to fold down the couch into a bed? We have two of us looking for about 15 minutes and couldn't find it. I know it's probably a duh thing, but I'll be damned if we could find it...

Lol The switch is to the left of the stairs should be a black rocker switch but The accessory circuit breaker must be on on the 12 V side should be the last 12 V breaker

Thanks Joey!

Another favor to ask someone (remember, this boat is a bit of a project but has great bones)

Can someone send a picture of the L bench in the back with the seat cushions up? The fiberglass where the hinge was rotted out and I need to cut out and replace. It also looks like there should be more support down there as that's a very large opening with very little holding things up. The cushion wood/plastic bottom on each cushion is broken and that needs to be fixed as well so If I'm going in for to fix things I will probably do everything and build it up.

If anyone has a 97-99 have you figured out a way to put a real bed in the V berth? I was thinking of getting a memory foam mattress and cutting it to fit but that stupid center piece keeps falling out. Replace the area with plywood and put the mattress over that? What have been some of your solutions? No sense in reinventing the wheel when there's a great resource out there.

Thanks!
Shawn

Hi Shawn,

I have the 8.1 engines which have a high pitched "whistle" (kind of like a jet engine whine) around 1500-2500 rpm which is simply the engine idle air valve sucking air through the intake. There is a small "muffler" which looks like a little bit of air filter material that is supposed to quiet this noise, but I've never bothered with it. Not sure if the 7.4 engines have the same thing, but it might be worth checking.

Thanks Joey!

I wish I had the L shaped seat but as I do not I cannot comment on repairing it if it's a fiberglass base I'm sure a little fiberglass work is in order . as far as converting the forward State room to a dedicated bed I have looked at a boat that I almost bought where they did exactly what you said the fashioned a plywood base and had a custom mattress made with linens and made it a permanent berth if you plan on sleeping on it quite often I guess that would be the way to go I am a family of four and we sleep on it only a few weeks out of the year so I prefer to have it convertible just my opinion that's why I like the express cruiser better than the amberjack layout I was at a boat show once and found a gentleman who makes custom made memory foam mattress topper is that will fit any Berth with matching linens for around 300 apiece I was considering having this made for the forward state room and the couch I believe that it fold up and or supposed to be extremely comfortable basically turning anything into a mattress that it lays on i'll do some digging and see if I could find it

Any of you guys ever have a problem changing your dripless shaft seals ?

I usually do my own work, but that was one job I left to the professionals. They had to take a torch to my coupler to get it to separate from the shaft. Failing that, they would have had to cut the coupler off (hopefully without damaging the shaft). Glad it didn't come to that!

Has anyone changed the cabin ceiling lights? My dad has a 02 34 Amberjack and wants to convert them to LED bulbs. How do you remove/open the fixture to get at the bulbs? Anyone have the bulb info?

Thanks
Chris
