Engines
350 with closed fresh water cooling
Daughter is getting more acclimated to water and is totally comfortable in the pool. Thought I would try the lake. It was rather windy when I went out yesterday with friends... same was the case today. The baby absolutely didn't mind however she was grinning ear to ear as we hit the wakes and white caps. Here we are on the hook and she's on the back of the boat with mom and grandma.

Our youngest was on the boat at 10 days old.

It's a great way to grow up!

I have a 3 week old and I am hesitant to bring him on the boat... what are people's thoughts on bringing a new born baby out on the boat in open water (bay) not ocean? I do not want to be irresponsible by any means

Do it, but do it right. An adult must be "hands on" at all times. Babies are quick and wiggle a lot. My kids were brought up on boats and love 'em.

Are youngest was on the boat at one week, made a bracket for the car seat to lock in. We had a plan if something went wrong kid went into the cooler that I made a life jacket for it to float up right even in waves, he is now 33, make it a family event.

What awesome memories you're starting!!!

ITA with GFC about having a baby wrangler at all times. They're slippery when they're slathered with sunscreen!

Also, acclimate littles to flotation suits/jackets as early as possible; the folks in our crew who did encountered less resistance as the babies became toddlers and started asserting their own wills. On the flip side, a couple who have a 2.5 year old and a 1 year old have had only a handful of lake days since the first was born, as she refuses to wear her jacket, and the tantrums are unbearable for the whole family. Not to say kids who are acclimated will never throw tantrums, just that habits are strongest when they're exactly that: habits.

Underway she had her jacket on and absolutely had no problem. We took it off when grandma had her in the boat and in the float. The 8 year old that just started boating has tantrums about the life jacket being to tight..... she'll have to get over it!

Our oldest daughter was 3 weeks old on her first week long boat trip and our Grand daughter was 5 days old on her first dinner cruise.

Our girls now adults absolutely love boating, one of the best decisions ever.

Thanks everyone, this makes me feel much better about getting him and mom on the boat ... love the cooler idea!! Sorry for high jacking the thread!

With a proper flotation device and some precautions it should be fine. It's when they get mobile that things get hectic.
My kids got used to wearing life jackets anytime they were on the boat and things stayed that way until they became teenagers.
Get him in a pool ASAP and try to teach him to swim as soon as you can. I had both my kids comfortable in the pool with floaties on and me within arms reach by the time they were a year old and they could both tread water, doggie paddle, and float on their backs solo without floaties by their second summer. Naturally, I was in the water with them anytime they were in the water.
The main thing is you want to get them to the point that they won't panic if they go in the water and they are able to naturally react to keep themselves afloat until you get to them.

Son was born in March. Bought our first boat in June. He and his 2 year older sister grew up on the boat. 30 years later they both visit often and still want to go boating. Daughter and fiancé just drove up to northern Illinois from St. Louis just to go boating last weekend. Son and his wife are going this weekend. We all love being on the water. Now it's a Sea Ray instead of the Bayliner I started with!
