I saw highslice's post about the dearth of activity on CSR lately and I agree. Maybe everyone is just shy? There certainly hasn't been much activity on the Mid Atlantic forum lately and I know that there are lots of us in the Upper Chesapeake area. Lets see if we can use this thread to introduce ourselves.

My name is Michael. My friends call me Mike. Quite a few others call me things not appropriate for a family show. :lol: I've been a CSR member since the day after I bought my boat back in 2007. I haven't been boating as much as I used to for a couple of years now due to a less than enthusiastic about boating admiral. As a result she has been demoted, and the search for a new admiral is under way. My home port is in the middle of "the cut" by Hart Miller island. I don't spend much time at HMI on the weekends, but I do enjoy weekdays and evenings there when it is much quieter. I've learned a lot on this forum and I've met several CSR members over the years. I haven't seen a few of them in quite a long time. Does anyone know what happened to hack4alivin? He was a really nice guy that just disappeared. I sure hope he's okay.

At any rate, I know y'all are out there. Please introduce yourself. Let's share places to go and things to do in this area.
 
I'll bite. I'm Mark. Been boating for 30 some years which I have owned 7 boats. The one that was fastest was a 30' Villain IV my wife said two words on that boat. "SLOW DOWN".
And we're talking the boat speed. Might even be in the market for another boat soon. I have had boats in the old Pasadena Boatel on the Patapsco and at my brothers on the Severn. My boats have been lift kept until this year. We moved to Mears Point on Kent Island and are looking forward to it. You can find me on Kent Island, the Horse Farm in Magothy, or at Kentmorr, and around. Say hello if you see me out.
 
I'm Joel, have lived and boated in various parts of the US but have called Maryland home for more than a decade. Previously had a Wellcraft cabin cruiser. Bought the Sea Ray less than a year ago and keep her at Mears Point in the Kent Narrows. The admiral and I still work full-time and we're busy with other stuff too, so we don't spend as much time on the boat as we'd like. We're Power Squadron members and we're planning to cruise with them to Norfolk in late-July.

It feels strange introducing myself again after being here for 10 years. I'm Aaron, this is our third Sea Ray and ninth boat overall. I've been boating on the Upper Chesapeake since I was two years old, my parents are still avid boaters and keep their trawler in our marina. We're at Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbour on the Bohemia River. Our dock friends don't like to travel so we usually go alone which is fine with us. We have two daughters that are 8 and 11 years old that are being raised as boaters just as my wife and I were.

We're on the boat from Friday after work until Sunday night and usually go for a ride and anchor out with friends locally on two day weekends. We take two, week long trips during the summer and travel on longer Holiday weekends. Our favorite spots are Rock Hall, Annapolis, St. Mikes, Oxford, Cambridge, Solomons, Herrington Harbor etc... Last summer and this summer again, we will be traveling to Cape Charles, York River area and Deltaville.
 
Do you guys accept Transient Chesapeake boaters? I'm Mark, Karen and I are currently looping and enjoying your "backyard" right now. We are currently in Solomons, MD. After some rough weather to start, things have turned around nicely this past week. We have been really enjoying the lower Chesapeake this past 10 days or so. I am very envious of you all because of the amazing destinations that you have to do your boating in, and we are really just getting started in the Chesapeake. Since visiting Norfolk and being at Waterside for their soft opening 2 weeks ago, to today arriving in Solomons, we have visited Cape Charles, Deltaville, Urbanna, Irvington,(Tides Inn), Onancock, and Tangiers. We will be working our way north over the next month. Some of the stops intended will be Oxford, St. Michaels, Annapolis, Baltimore, Rock Hall, and Fredricksburg along with some back coves and anchorages to just chill. Lovin your neck of the woods so far, if you see a 400 sedan bridge with a dinghy on the back, an AGLCA burgee up front and a CSR burgee on the light staff, give Captain's Choice a shout out.
 
Oh yes. There are great transient locations all over the place. In Baltimore (Fell's Point) give Henderson's Wharf a try. $1.99/ft. In Rock Hall you can overnight for free at the sea wall in the harbor. Some great general anchorages would be Fairlee Creek on the eastern side, Sue Creek on the western side for a nice weather protected location (and be sure to hit the Sue Island Grill for some excellent Maryland steamed crabs - some of the best on the upper Chesapeake - skip the crabs entirely in Virginia - they have no clue lol). Be sure to stop in Tolchester and get a mudslide at the beach bar. It's also the best location to catch a great sunset over the upper bay. Middle River is a good place for some night life if you're looking for a place to have some dinner, drinks, and music. Sunday evenings between 5pm and 10pm at the River Watch restaurant are fairly lively. They usually have a pretty good band playing outside on the deck. The food and music are usually pretty good at both the Crazy Tuna next to River Watch, as well as Sunset Cove off Frog Mortar Creek. Enjoy your trip!

And yeah... We are kinda lucky. It's a great place to boat.

I am also Mark and have been boating on and off for 30+ years in the Potomac river / Chesapeake bay area and currently have the boat at Spring Cove Marina in Solomons. I am an avid fisherman and beach bum extrodinaire. Our last boat was a 28ft Carolina Classic , but sadly the Admiral wanted a more comfortable boat. So we recently purchased a 2001 Sea Ray 400 sedan bridge. ( Aaron you may reconize it). We have been asolutely delighted thus far and are excited to take some trips this year to places we have not visited as of yet. If you happen be in Solomons drop us a note we would love to meet other CSR members, and if you happen to stay at Spring Cove we may just be slip neighbors for the weekend.
 
That's so funny Mark, I just looked at your avatar pic and realized that was Scott's old boat. He was my dock neighbor for a few months. We'll be at Spring Cove on 7/21 and 7/22 so I'll look you up!
 
I'm Tom. I've been on the site since 2009 when we brought our second sea Ray a 330DA. We have 3 children 2 girls 1 boy. Ages are 22,15,14. My first boat was a classic 90 280DA which got my then girlfriend now wife into boating. Growing up I boated primarily with my father at the jersey shore around Wildwood, Stone Harbor, and Cape May. Fishing and getting the crap scared out of me running Herefords Inlet in our 22 cuddy cabin. That inlet is a classic shifting sand local knowledge kind of place where the USCG would throw out 3 buoys in May and the local knowledge was all you had.

We moved onto our 3rd Sea Ray this season a 410DA. I appreciate all the knowledge here and learned a load of info from the thread which I read twice on the 410/400 sun dancers. It was great to hear that many of the members are doing well and that basically ,life happened for many of them. I was really glad to see FC3 post a short time ago I learned so much from his posts on the 330 thread, Thank You!

Hack4Alivn is doing well. He is currently a bridge officer for Baltimorre Yacht Club and is beyond busy, I don't know how he has time to go to the bathroom between full time employment and all of us demanding members! He still has the 320DA but rumor has it that a sedan bridge may be in his future. I am sure once his term ends as an officer he will be back!

We are down in Florida and Wow the weather has been fantastic this week. My wife said this is the Florida she can live in. We have been down before in August and it is pretty humid then. We spent the day over in Clearwater Beach what a wonderful area! Can't wait to get home and back on the bay!

Hi all,
My name is Anthony and we actually do our boating in the Northeast however, I hope to be transiting the upper Chesapeake into the C&D canal in the next couple weeks provided this deal goes thru. Sea trial scheduled for May 23rd!!:smt038

I am not at all familiar with this area other than the few times we visited via land. Must admit I am a little jealous of all the boating destinations and attractions on the bay. I'm sure it never gets old. Seems like everyone we meet is nicer than the next which takes a little getting used to being from New England.

If all goes well we will be leaving from Kent Narrows Mears Point.
Any local knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, CSR is an excellent resource for all things boating! Joined 5 yrs ago when we bought our first Sea Ray 180 sport.
 
Hello I'm Mark.. seems like we have a few here. We are on our second boat, the first one we had for about a year back in 2005. Just got our 370AC last fall and am enjoying the heck out of it. Our previous boating was mainly on a lake in Washington state so we are new to the Chesapeak. I never knew how many shallow sandbars were in this bay, warning from fellow boaters has me nervous to venture out. We currently keep out boat at Nabbs Creek Marina, all the people there are nice as can be.
 
Tim here. Like Aaron (and surely others), an Upper Bay lifer, having spent my youth on Bush River (BRYC baby!) and having called Rock Hall, Worton Creek and the Sassafras River my summer home as an adult, we've recently moved to Mears like a few others. I just sold my second Sea Ray (and 15th boat). Number 16 will likely not be a Sea Ray, as we have become smitten with this beast called a 57 McKinna Pilothouse (see pic) that is currently lying in Fort Lauderdale. Hopefully the deal will go through soon, just waiting on some final repairs. We hope to have our new baby home by end of June. Like my last boat, she will be called "St. Somewhere". For my new Mears buddies, we are on D65. Come say hi once we're there.

Although no longer a Sea Ray guy, I have made many friends on this forum that I hope to keep.

And don't worry, Gary, I will straighten those VHF antennae as soon as she is mine. :)

I'm Steve and I have a 2003 320DA. I've been in Rock Creek for the past 2 years but just moved my home and my boat to Canton. She's docked at BMC Lighthouse Point.

Hey folks- I'm Jeff.
New to boating (2nd season). I moved up from a Kayak to the 270.
My boat stays near the Waterside district in Norfolk VA.
While I'm not able to give much advice, I do appreciate the information I've gotten from here!
 
I'm Jeff too, and although we aren't natives, we've lived here for 18 years and been boating on the Upper Chesapeake for 12 years. Our boat is in a boatel on the Magothy and we stay mostly on or close to the Magothy, often anchoring at the horse farm and hanging out.

This thread is a great idea-- now that the kids are out of the house we've been thinking of doing more on the bay itself. When they were younger we did several overnights a season, but then they got to the "do we *have* to go??" stage and we cut back our trips to day trips.

We'd to love to do a raft-up or three and get back into using the boat!

Hey this is Paul, friend of Mike who started this thread. I have a '95 270. I've been boating since the early 90's in the upper Chesapeake. Currently at CYC on Frog Mortar. Mike already told you about all of the good spots LOL.

This is Toby.

We are new residents of Long Beach Marina as of last year. Traded in the 2005 260DA earlier this year though. Needed a little more room with two little girls. Just waiting to take delivery of our 2007 44DA later this month. Can't wait to get back out there!

We're normally up every weekend staying on the boat. Used to anchor at Tolchester or Button Beach, but may have to find a new spot with the deeper draft.

That boat is now Tim's and is at its home in MD. I had the pleasure of helping run it from Coinjock, NC to Kent Narrows, MD.
