Where has this forum gone?

I'm one who has been here awhile and checks in once or twice a day, depending on how my day is going. The first thing I click on is the "What's new in 24 hours". That lets me see who's asking questions and who's providing information. I don't often click on many of those, maybe a handful that might be of interest.

I don't think I'd recommend any changes except maybe the "Women of Sea Ray" thread. I kinda like that idea.

I have been a member just under a year. This site has been hugely instrumental in the repair of our 460. I have literally read 1000's of pages and I log on every day. I really enjoy the site. Unfortunately I am in Texas so there are a limited number of people in my area on here but I have personally met some of them and all are great people! Thanks for all Jim does!

I come on the site almost daily. That being said I have owned my 320 for 11 seasons. So I know pretty much everything there is to know about the boat. Most of the questions on the boat I can answer. I tend to work harder than I ever have professionally and I started another expensive habit. Specifically Ironman and Triathlon races. So leaves little free time. I suspect FB distracts people as well. I think the forum is great.

Here are some ideas:
Inside the Picture and Video thread have the following sticky(s):
Women of ClubSeaRay
Ugly Cobalt Owners
Epic Fails - Stee6043, you can insert a picture of a Honda generator on swim platform :)

You mean "Women Who Own Sea Rays," right?

I miss those days. I am as guilty as anyone as I have had no time to visit, much less post. But the loss of Gary, Hampton, Turtle and the Franks, to name a few, is really taking it's toll. Hopefully the site is just going through a natural ebb and will pick up soon. But it is kind of depressing.
I miss the old days too. I almost posted this thread a week or so ago. LOL!!! I could not wait to check and see what my SR friends had posted next all while learning a ton about boating and meeting friends I’ll have the rest of my life.

Note to Jim: Don't want to sound ungrateful.

I really do appreciate you hosting the forumThank you Jim!!!

Yep, I don't post anymore, it's simply not fun here anymore, I miss the old days.

The laugh quotient has plummeted in recent years.

Although this site is excellent for the collective amount of knowledge that gets shared on a daily basis, I have to say that it is rather tame around here. With the disappearance of the "Head Pot Stirrer", "Wingl_ss" & "Baysinker Wayne", who is going to step up to be Wingturd-2017 and get the blood boiling again? :smt021

I miss those members and some others too. We had great discussions on fuel prices that got political and interesting.

I have been here since the beginning. My first 3 boats were Sea Rays and I did lots of modifications and maintenance on them. The site has been a tremendous help to me. I do not post as often, but visit daily. I still think it is the best boating site on the net.

It really is, but the lack of personality that built it will hurt it in the long run.

I've also felt that the site hasn't been as active or interesting as of late. I'd be curious what the traffic numbers are and if they've actually fallen off. I still come here at least once a day for a quick run down of the new postings. Sometimes something catches my eye, many times not. I definitely come here as soon as I have an issue or a question. It's been a life saver many times and is my go-to site.

Click the Forum tab and you will see the number of users at the time. The current number of 400ish seems low tonight. I recall near 1000 in this season.

For those saying I come here for information not “banter”, keep in mind that banter is where many friendships were formed and is something interesting that keeps many of the folks answering the questions interested enough to still come around. If one only wants data then we should just put the site in a book and shut it down. The real magic of CSR is the members, they make it what it is. Hopefully some new members will add some much needed spice to this valuable forum to push new growth.

Hey Highslice, look what started ,are you happy now? Article grew 3 pages while I read it. I love CSR don't change anything. Steve

I go on this site every night and click on new post within 48 hrs myself. Been on the site for quite a few years and have learned tons as well as go to guys for specific info as well. Just had Jim and his gang of guys install a new 7612 Garmin chart plotter while we were up the bay and he's pricing more work I've asked about.

Recently sold our 2001 420AC Gimme Time to a couple of friends and moved up to a 52SB so the service work, upgrades, modifications and fine tuning to our likes is in progress and the out flow that goes with that process. I made a very specific decision to use BOE for as much as I can as a small way of helping support his company which makes all this possible.

Me pesonally, I love pics of the boats and even better when the bikinis are included as nothing adds to a great picture like Bow Bait.

We completed the Great Loop trip last May and have written a little about it here on CSR as if ya luv boats like we all do it truly is a trip of a Lifetime. We plan to head back up into Canada again next summer as this year we're headed up through the Long Island sound as far north as Block Island, RI never been up that way before. I find it easier for our friends to follow our posting on FB and will do so again when we leave on July 29th for the next thirty days with two other Sea Rays.

On another thought it sure would be nice to have a couple of CSR get together son the Chesapeake Bay where more of us could get together. Seven of us in the Low Bay are headed to Cape Charles for about six days for the forth of Juky celebration so anyone interested call and make reservations and we will see you there.

PS, I haven't been able to change the picture with my signature as it keeps turning sideways so if ya know how I can fix it, please tell me. Tech is not my bag but I can handle anything with engines in her!

FRANK, YOU ARE SOOT ON ! :smt038

Wait a minute……..a lot of those you mentioned really haven't gone anywhere. Life and business happened……..Gary started a new health care company and is spending more than full time running it; Hampton is building a new house, and I really mean building it, like he and his wife are doing the work themselves, when he isn't flying for Delta….I saw his boat yesterday in fact; Turtle bought a house in the 'burbs, and is remodeling it while still running TurtleTone Studios; Frank (FC3) still posts from time to time, and this Frank is still here nearly every day, and most days, several times a day.

I think a lot of folks have moved on up the learning curve and it is time for them to answer some of the questions so I'm not as active as I once was, but if I miss something and you guys need me, PM still works. I frequently post when I can add something or keep someone from heading down a wrong path. However, one rabbit hole you guys are not going to lead me down again is the danged portable generator subject.

I must admit to being weary of threads about stereo installs and LED cockpit lights so I avoid them and if you want to know how to remove a refrigerator from a 15 year old low volume model, then, I'm probably not going to be your guy.

As far as where have the big boat diesel guys gone? To my knowledge, no other forum offers correct, brand specific, hands on Sea Ray knowledge as CSR. If you want to get into brand arguments and the rumor mill spawned by "the guy down my dock had XYZ happen, then help your self to The Hull Truth, boatdiesel, etc. Big boat experience is still here, the answers you get are correct or you you can learn where to go for the answer.

I don't think the time is right to try to add topics to the list. Jim is at the point of replacing the forum software so perhaps we should let that play out to see what the new system looks like. The one thing that would help immensely is to stay on the subject. We seem to have the habit of letting threads wanter all over creation…..a model specific topic often turns into a general boat or engine question ……so there is little wonder we can't find anything when we try searching for it.

Meanwhile……it s pretty day in Florida; I'm going boating!

As I said in a follow up post, I love this site. It is by far better than any other boating forum around. I was just commenting that it is not as lively as it was way back when I only had 77 posts. Nothing to be happy or sad about. Like many others I miss that. And as I said before, I am grateful to Jim for providing the forum.

After reading through this thread, I'm reminded how great this site is for boat knowledge and personalities! It truly is amazing that when you google an issue, 9 times out 10 clubsearay is one of the first google links for info.

It's slow because Sea Rays never have any problems and we are all 100% happy with our boats and our lives. Nothing to see here. Move along. Visit the other boat manufacturers forums if you want to hear about problems. They're all a mess. LOL

You mean "Women Who Own Sea Rays," right?

Why limit it? We all (speaking for the guys here cause I don't want to get into any LGBTQRXWPY discussions) like to see pretty pictures of pretty ladies using the boat.

Here are some friends from our club

and last, but certainly not least, my Galley Wench attacking me on our boat.

I still come here looking for insight, knowledge and answers to questions re all things boating. I also still like to share my experiences and knowledge as well. Have to admit, I completely missed the fall out with the other members but have noticed I don't find the board with as many interesting topics. Just the other day, I tried to express some frustration with dealer service and impart some knowledge re prop installation and sort of got hammered for it. The thread quickly turned into a who's to blame thread. Anyway . . .
Unfortunately I have seen that & far worse since I've been a member. When I first joined it seemed everyone was nice & went out of their way to help you. I have made some great friends here both in person & in cyberspace. Gary was great with his dry sarcastic wit but could take it just as well as give it. I think he enjoyed those interactions. One of my favorite posts to this day was the one where he found the old pic & narrated on how his family grew, and eventually shrank on all of these various Sea Rays.
But, a few years back, people started attacking others, at times very maliciously, and it turned many people off including myself. I still check in here & there & post when I think I can help but always with the consideration of "What possible way can someone take this, turn it around & attack me over it?". Often I just delete my typed reply before I post it & go on living my life. It's sad but maybe it's just the natural evolution of the forum.

Even though we sold our 450 a year ago I still visit this site between 2-3 times a day. People have helped me through the years and if I'm able to return some valuable info I do.

Great site!!!!
