Where has this forum gone?

The suggestion of splitting up the site for boats of different sizes already exists here. I enjoy reading all of the ones with technical problems regardless of the size of the boat & offering suggestions from time to time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :smt021
Besides all of the knowledge that is constantly being shared here, I always look forward to reading the joke thread.

I will say the GIANT threads for each model sure make searching for something hard..

Ha, just post pictures 
I'll take one for you this weekend. LOL

I do this on occasion, but only for long enough to run the microwave or use my mini shop vac. I'll put it back there and use the AC for a couple of hours just to stir the pot. It's a dirty job, but since no one else has stepped up...

I do miss some of the injury stories. I would have never imagined some of those things happening... :wow:

Inside the Picture and Video thread have the following sticky(s):
Women of ClubSeaRay
Ugly Cobalt Owners
Epic Fails - Stee6043, you can insert a picture of a Honda generator on swim platform :)

And don't forget. Mommy, mommy, fix me a bowl of cry baby soup, the dealer has done me an injustice. I mean, I can fix this myself in 20 minutes, but you all need to hear about this.

There's your banter! ^^^

Since the "big boat/diesel" guys left because of wingnut, among other things, and started their own forum, the content here has decreased to a depressing level. I miss those days. I am as guilty as anyone as I have had no time to visit, much less post. But the loss of Gary, Hampton, Turtle and the Franks, to name a few, is really taking it's toll. Hopefully the site is just going through a natural ebb and will pick up soon. But it is kind of depressing.

Wait a minute……..a lot of those you mentioned really haven't gone anywhere. Life and business happened……..Gary started a new health care company and is spending more than full time running it; Hampton is building a new house, and I really mean building it, like he and his wife are doing the work themselves, when he isn't flying for Delta….I saw his boat yesterday in fact; Turtle bought a house in the 'burbs, and is remodeling it while still running TurtleTone Studios; Frank (FC3) still posts from time to time, and this Frank is still here nearly every day, and most days, several times a day.

I think a lot of folks have moved on up the learning curve and it is time for them to answer some of the questions so I'm not as active as I once was, but if I miss something and you guys need me, PM still works. I frequently post when I can add something or keep someone from heading down a wrong path. However, one rabbit hole you guys are not going to lead me down again is the danged portable generator subject.

I must admit to being weary of threads about stereo installs and LED cockpit lights so I avoid them and if you want to know how to remove a refrigerator from a 15 year old low volume model, then, I'm probably not going to be your guy.

As far as where have the big boat diesel guys gone? To my knowledge, no other forum offers correct, brand specific, hands on Sea Ray knowledge as CSR. If you want to get into brand arguments and the rumor mill spawned by "the guy down my dock had XYZ happen, then help your self to The Hull Truth, boatdiesel, etc. Big boat experience is still here, the answers you get are correct or you you can learn where to go for the answer.

I don't think the time is right to try to add topics to the list. Jim is at the point of replacing the forum software so perhaps we should let that play out to see what the new system looks like. The one thing that would help immensely is to stay on the subject. We seem to have the habit of letting threads wanter all over creation…..a model specific topic often turns into a general boat or engine question ……so there is little wonder we can't find anything when we try searching for it.

Meanwhile……it s pretty day in Florida; I'm going boating!

Frank, I belatedly thought about recognizing your continued presence here along with your vast knowledge base. I can't speak for anyone else, but I appreciate your willingness to share your expertise. And I have no desire to go to the Hull Truth, been there and don't find their type of "banter" to be helpful or entertaining. I was not knocking the current cast of characters. I guess a better approach to my thread should have been "why has the posting to this site slowed down so much since the "good old days".

I still benefit a great deal from all of the knowledge on the forum and visit as often as possible, and I will go back to being a sponsor if my business ever turns around. The amount of posts have just slowed a lot in the past several years.

Thanks for the replies. To be clear, my intent was not to disparage the site or anyone who does or does not contribute. I really do appreciate that this site with it's massive database of how to fix things that break is still in existence.

I'm interested in outfitting my new boat with a lift for my pet pig. Any ideas?

I have been here since the beginning. My first 3 boats were Sea Rays and I did lots of modifications and maintenance on them. The site has been a tremendous help to me. I do not post as often, but visit daily. I still think it is the best boating site on the net.

I've also felt that the site hasn't been as active or interesting as of late. I'd be curious what the traffic numbers are and if they've actually fallen off. I still come here at least once a day for a quick run down of the new postings. Sometimes something catches my eye, many times not. I definitely come here as soon as I have an issue or a question. It's been a life saver many times and is my go-to site.

I do think the big mega-threads are community killers. They start with the intent to focus on a specific model but eventually they end up being their own community and discuss topics that aren't model specific but that may be of interest to members as a whole. But when the rest of us look at the 'new posts' and see a posting in one of those threads we dismiss it because we assume it doesn't pertain to us. Same thing happens on some motorcycle forums I'm on.

BTW, my absolute favorite posts are trip posts. It's so fun to follow along on the journeys of the rest of you. It's my way of escaping my lake boating. :smt001

I had to look it up but I have been a member here since December 2006. Let's face it......in 10+ years there isn't going to be a whole lot left that hasn't been addressed at one point or another. Sure new technology introduces complexity and requires different diagnostic skills but so do newer cars. If you are looking for idiotic bantering about subjects unrelated to boating....there are plenty of sites that serve that community. I used to post on Offshoreonly.com about race engines but the most popular sections of that site were photos from completion and of course the Bikini Girls (or lack thereof). I think we exhausted all that was possible to discuss about machining big blocks and superchargers in a few years.

Since we don't compete our Sea Ray boats....that's out. If you are looking for Bikini Girls.....my guess is that you can find sites dedicated to that activity. I'm glad that Wingnuts and several others left the site a long time ago.....frankly their banter while it might have attracted views.....did nothing to help people.
