Great photo, looks like a nice group. My 340DA is going to look like a dinghy next to those big boys this summer. Looking forward to it.
I do know that we can contribute a batch or two of Painkillers that will make you think you're at the Soggy Dollar on Toasty Josty...

I love painkillers....

I need a painkiller to get past the cold weather this week. Nothing like a hint of the tropics to take the edge off!

So what are you guys thinking? If the feast is at Shelter Island on July 29th we will likely join the group that Saturday and Sunday.

It seems like that is the plan.

Hey Brian,

It would be great if you could join us.

The dates have been set, the location is yet TBD. Check out the 1st page for details. I spoke with IBY and they supposed to get back to me with the final decision regarding renting us a picnic area. I'll post as soon as I hear something. Let's give them few days.

Ric (Katricol),

Thanks for the PM. I added your info on the first page. Looking forward to see you and Kathy.

Hey Guys,

Here’s the latest update.

After several calls with IBY management, I’m experience good deal of hesitation on their part regarding renting us the picnic area. Their biggest concern is the possibility of inconveniencing other people who will be using the transient slips for the weekend. At this point we have the following options:

  1. Just like we did two years ago, if we have several boats wishing to stay in the marina, we’ll have much better leverage and be eligible for utilizing the picnic area.
  2. Do something different. Right by the anchorage area, there’s a nice beach. How about do the feast right on the beach? Granted that it might present slightly more challenges, but it could be a fun experience. For the most part we’ll need to bring couple folding tables to place the food on. We usually bring folding chairs to the site, so that’s not an extra task for majority.
  3. I spoke with Taylor's Island management and they told me that they have availability for 7/29. So, if we want to comeback there this year again, we have that option.

Let me know your thoughts.

I think a beach party on Shell Beach is the way to go. The beach is on the narrow side but I think it is doable. A few tables for food, some folding chairs and we are good to go.

I also like option 2. If option 1 presents itself, great. If not, then let's party on the beach. I can bring a folding table if need be.

We didn't have a chance to visit Westneck Harbor last year, so I'm also incline to favor option 2 (party on the beach at Westneck Hbr anchorage). It's something different and could be a lot of fun.

Dean,
I hope you got your drone ready. This could definitely be a calendar pics moment having the raft with the feast on the beach in the background.

Anyone else.....thought, ideas? Let's see your votes.

P.S.
Notification feature is not working well again. So, don't rely on email notification when the threads gets updated, check the thread on your own periodically.

Are we still anticipating the last stop to be Block Island at this point? If we join up there, would we expect the flotilla to be around Thu,Fri,Sat nights? Heading home Sunday? We're planning to overnight at Cuttyhunk the night before we meet up with the rest of you, just wondering what night that's going to be to coordinate some other things. I know there were a couple other boats coming from the east that might do something similar.

Thanks - Ron

Alex we anchored at west neck on Shelter this past summer and I think I have a memory that you were not allowed on the beach there. Does anyone know if that is true ?

That would be a bummer. Anytime we stayed there, there was no issue with the beach access. I hope someone can chime in with more info.

From what I have found, there are no restrictions on accessing the beach as it is a public beach.

[h=2]A Guide to Shelter Island:
Beaches[/h]
Shelter Island is an island surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches on the East End.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
If you are planning on visiting one of Shelter Island's public beaches you will need to obtain a beach parking pass. The passes can be acquired by bringing your car registration or car rental agreement to the Town Clerks Office in Town Hall. You will need parking permits for Shell Beach, Wades Beach and Crescent Beach. The Town Clerks Office is open Monday through Friday from 9-4 and Saturdays 9am to 12 noon (during the summer). Call 631-749-1166 for more information. Island residents can obtain parking permits free of charge. Others pay as follows:
  • Weekly Permits (7 consecutive days) $25.00
  • Monthly Permits (31 consecutive days) $50.00
  • Seasonal Permits (June 15 through Labor Day) $100.00

[h=4]Here is a list of Local Beaches on Shelter Island:[/h]
Crescent Beach
Crescent Beach or Louis' Beach is located on the North west corner of Shelter Island. The beach is over half a mile long and is the islands most popular beach. The beach has a fantastic view of Southold and Greenport. The beach also is the home of several restaurants and hotels including The Pridwin, The Peconic Lodge, and the Sunset Beach Bar & Restaurant. This beach also offers a great view of the sunset. During the summer season there is a lifeguard on duty during the day.

Shell Beach
Shell Beach is located on the south-west corner of the island in West Neck Harbor. The beach overlooks West Neck Harbor, Shelter Island Sound and the Peconics. This beach is half a mile long and located on a long peninsula with a dirt road. This beach is generally less populated than Crescent Beach & Wades Beach.
Wades Beach
Wades Beach is also located inside West Neck Harbor across from Shell Beach. This beach is also very popular and has a lifeguard on duty during regular hours.

Right Harold... Shell's is not on that list, Wade's is.Kathy and I have a distinct memory that we could not bring cooper ashore to shell's and had to go elsewhere. So if you want to do the dinner here I do not think it would be at Shell's beach which is the one closest to the anchorage. If you want to be 100% sure one of us could contact authorities to get clarification as to what we can or cannot do. As we all remember from last year the laws are enforced at Shelter ! My guess is you can't do it at Wade's beach either, but that's only a guess. A lot of these towns are restricting stuff to deter people anchoring.

Opps...It is on the list Maybe I'm thinking of another Island ?? LOL I'm gonna "ask a friend"

Rich, The only restriction listed on the website is that a beach parking pass is needed to park your car, otherwise all of the beaches on Shelter are open to the public. There is no other restrictions listed as to their use.

You could be thinking of the beaches in Coecles Harbor. I think most of the shoreline there is restricted because the land is privately owned behind the houses that line the shore.
