270 Sundeck Thread - Questions & Answers

thinking about downsizing from my 30 weekender to a 240 or 270 sundeck.havent slept on the boat in a couple years and the single engine fuel usage I do miss from my 25 sundancer.I really like the 270 but all the pics I see don't look to have a fridge.has anyone added a fridge to their boats?thats the one thing I would really miss as its nice to always have cold drinks on the boat.also whats really the difference between the 6.2 and 8.1,its usually only me and my wife so the boats never loaded to capacity.

Never really measured it because I haven't put much thought into adding one, but it might fit under the sink. If I were to guess, it would be a royal SOB to add. I added pullout drawers into that space where the cooler normally goes. Fridge was never a factory option because shore power was never an option. I have put in shore power along with a charger/inverter but left it at that.

Sub is great. It went in along with a complete swap of all the speakers to JL and a JL 700/5 amp to power it all so I really can't give a subjective review on just the sub. The overall sound is fantastic.

Good to hear, I have yet to be let down by JL, but I went kicker marine this time. I'm upgrading all the other speakers and amps as well . Did you build a box in the compartment for the sub or let it free flow?

No enclosure. Just an infinite baffle sub under the port rear seat.

Well I have been working on the install of my new audio system. While uninstalling the factory amp I noticed a extra set of what appeared to be speaker wire. With terminal ends on each. Any ideas where they go? They were bundled with the factory wires. Mainly curious

Maybe prewired for the premium sound option? I never came across those because I didn't uninstall that amp. I just clipped and capped what fed it. How big of a pain was that?

I removed all the panels in the cabin behind the dash. It is easily to get to then. I clipped and capped the power wires and pulled the fuse. I left the rca cable and such there. I did tap into the rear speakers there. Thinking about it now I may rewire from the new amp to the rear speakers. after running rgb to each speaker for the leds I really don't want to rewire anything else. I'm installing both new amps in the head vanity.

Now that you mention that I did tap into the starboard rear speaker there. How did you get your rgb wire back to that? I never found a good path. Tomorrow I'm adding a transducer for a chart plotter/fish finder and will have to figure out that path I suppose. I stuck my amp behind the port side bow seat back on the vertical panel. Worked out really well and I didn't have to deal with that cramped vanity.

I thought for a very long time about putting the amps in the port seat . As far as the RGB I mainly followed the factory wiring that the speaker wire was ran. Were you referring to the path from dash to vanity? With the dash panels removed the wires run from behind the dash , down under the floor flowing the original rca cable. To the ski locker , through factory wire loom . Back under the floor ,toward the aux water pump and them into vanity.

That's how I did the dash to the vanity too. I was referring to the starboard rear speaker. I can't find a good path through the cooler/sink. Were you able to get rgb back there? I guess I could go around the world but I'm dealing with a transducer cable so the length is limited. I'll find a path just was curious if you had found it.

I followed the path of shift cable and the speaker wire. I worked it from the driver speaker. Past the driver cubby hole. Through the sink vanity and to speaker. I did have help through various parts of feeding wires and use of a small telescoping stick. I mainly looked for any path that factory used, in most cases it is the easiest path.

Well I believe that I finished every thing finally. Added two 10" memphis , new kicker 6.5's all around and tied in some led lighting through out, time to put interior back in and clean......

That looks great. I lit up under the gunnels like that but did not get speakers with rgb. I do have some acrylic rings I can wrap with rgb for them but have not installed them yet. Your pic may motivate me.

Thanks. I ended up soldiering all the led connections, it took a bit longer than expected but I love how it turned out. I wish there was a spot or two up front to light up but I have the same led speaker grills up there. Where did you get the rings from ?

I honestly don't remember. I'm part of the CSR AND the CRS (Can't Remember Sh*t) club. I bought one as a template and then had the construction crew on a movie I was working on make me another out of scrap. My original intention was to put them up front because I also could not find an elegant way to light the bow. I ultimately didn't put them in because I felt the rings would destroy my night vision. I may go back and add to the cockpit though.

To help you spend a little more money--I swapped the cockpit lights out for Lumitec Mirage lights. Dimmable white, red, blue led. No more burned cankles and is a direct swap. Thinking about adding a pair of their strips to the front bar of the tower for some down light.

I will change all the lights to led before long and the lumitec looks pretty sweet.

Switched the courtesy bulbs to led, also the "cabin" , and head. I must say I was impressed I ordered them on Amazon. I forgot to take pictures, but there is no comparison to the old bulbs, and alot lesd heat. Had a great first day out. So good to get out on the water.

Bringing this thread back to life. Just bought my 2nd 270 SunDeck last week and checked it out in person today.

New dash panel, steering wheel, paint the outdrive and a few other odds and ends. Then comes a really good bath with wash and wax. Hoping spring comes early!
