Topcoat

I found an insect repellant called fastcap. It works AMAZING for spiders. I spray the boat, the lines, and the dock about once a month and our boat has significantly less poop then my neighbors. This stuff is 50 bucks for a bottle but it makes a ton as it is a concentrate.

not to derail this thread, but I contacted the company and they suggested not to use Fastcap on boats.....it is highly toxic to aquatic life according to them...and they said the residual would wash away with each washing of the boat and the runoff would obviously go into the water where you are docked....

Just ordered a bottle of Topcoat F11. Spent a lot of time on their website and watching videos. They do say that it works great for boats and can be used on all surfaces including isenglass. If it works as advertised, this will be revolutionary for boat maintenance.

I ordered a one bottle special as well. I'll do a gelcoat compounding after stripping, try his then polish on top and see what happens in a specific area. Then I will polish and try this on top.

finally got a message from Topcoat that my order is in line to be filled and shipped soon.....the message stated they have been swamped with 'millions of request' in the past few weeks....

Same message I received.

Hell, I don't own my boat anymore but i'm just as curious too. Might be good on my jet ski...

You can spray WD40 on your badly oxidized gel coat and it will shine. That being said, I took a leap of faith and ordered a gallon for a trial over the summer. Understanding the chemistry and surface of oxidized paint and gel coat, it would be irrational to believe that Top Coat melts away oxidation and restores shine with a spritz. It is only temporarily filling the surface voids in the oxidation. If this product is in fact properly engineered it is possible that it would seal and preserve a properly prepared paint or gel coat surface. If you are expecting to just spritz and wipe, then get the WD40 instead. To properly test this product, remove all the oxidation, prepare the surface with wet sanding, cutting compound, polish, and Top Coat. It would be interesting to compare top coat to a good wax or Topcoat alone to wax + Top Coat. I have new Awlgrip and white gelcoat. I'm going to do some comparison testing on different parts. The real test would have been the blue hull of my '05 48DA. That was very high maintenance with a 4-step process. Five months after a $1,000 hull detail, it stated to get chalky and needed a 2-step detail before things got out of hand.

the company claims that Topcoat can be applied directly over a waxed surface.....they claim that the Topcoat will penetrate the wax and fill in the surface voids however it may take several applications depending on how heavy the wax coating is.....

I guess we'll see about that....

I am hopeful that it will be a decent sealant for the gelcoat and other surfaces such as windows and upholstery...

I 'may' be able to this WE......but since it is Mothers Day WE the Admiral may have other ways for me to spend my time at the boat....

Any reports on this product?

I have mine but just can't find the time to put it through a proper trial....I did put the product on a small section of my transom without any preparation other than regular washing.....the gelcoat on the transom is in fair-to-good condition but not nearly as nice as I want it to be......at first I didn't notice much of a difference....but the other night we were sitting on the dock talking to friends and I noticed the section of the transom with the topcoat had a very reflective finish....the string lights I installed over the dock behind our boat were shining brightly off of that section.....much better than the untouched sections of the transom.....

What the heck! Just ordered a bottle and will try it out on our hard top. We have an area on top that appears to be oxidized so I'm curious to see if this will help.
