Official 400EC thread

If the gauge is not available as Mark indicates, you may want to consider a whole dash makeover. Get new material for the dash panels and custom cut the holes you need for the gauges, switches and electronics. Then you can have it trimmed anyway you want. I did that on my 280 and it came out nice, even if I do say so myself. That project is much farther down the list for my 400.

Had a fresh water leak behind the cabinets in the galley area that soaked my carpeting..!!

Found out the stove top simply lifts out, to see what's happening back there..

To remove the stove top, pull the top drawer all the way out and put it aside..push up on the underside of the stove.
It's only held in with small Velcro tabs and the electric cable should have enough slack (mine did) to enable you to place it over the sink out of the way without disconnecting anything.

Now there's easy access to the Jabsco water system accumulator which in my case had split right along the seam. It's only a plastic can and was an easy repair.
I also got to shampoo all the cabin carpet due to everything being wet :)

This also makes cleaning the inevitable crumbs that gather around the stove top crevice to counter joint possible without Q-tips.

I've owned this boat for 10+ seasons and never knew its so easy to remove the stove top.

Hope this info us helpful to other 400EC owners.

Thanks Mark. I am definitely going to see if mine mounts the same way. That will be a much simpler way to access the water accumulator instead of removing the fridge and squeezing into the space between the cabinets and the engine room bulkhead!
I wish I knew this when I was trying to feed wiring to the tv and forward cabin!

Yes,
I found the water system accumulator for the first time while replacing my fridge.
At that time it had stress cracks on the top and was seeping a little bit. I covered the top with West System thickened epoxy to quickly repair it :) Now the thing split right in half..oh well.

Lifting to stove top is key to accessing that thing and will make snaking wires easier too.

Welcome to the club! Similar thing happened to me a earlier this year except the hose came off the input side and yes plenty of water, probably 50 gal.
Easy to fix but not what you want to find upon entering the cabin about midnight when all you want to do is relax!

Hello all, I'm currently considering an enclosure for my boat. Sadly, when I purchased the boat last year it didn't come with the frame or canvas for the original enclosure. So, I only have the frame and canvas for the original bimini and the bimini side curtains.

I recently received a quote from the only game in town for this type of job. I wanted to get a feel for whether what I was quoted is about what I should expect to pay, given my situation.

I was quoted ~$4K to extend my existing bimini to the radar arch and create a new frame and 80/20 canvas cockpit enclosure.

I was quoted ~$8K for all new canvas/frame (including bimini and curtains).

Is that about the prevailing rate for what I'm looking for?

congrats on the boat! I have had my '94 for 3 seasons now and love it. I just had my full canvas done including adding a camper back (I posted some pictures of the finished product earlier in this thread). I believe the prices you were quoted are in the ballpark. My full canvas was about $5k with reusing the forward frame and making a new frame for the rear.

I am replacing cockpit ice maker. Does anyone have experience with specific water filtration for the ice maker? Thinking an inline filter is in order.

got her done......flush door stainless 22 pounds a day should handle the margaritas......Vitrifrigo...toss up between it and Uline. we shall see. install was a breeze. This ice maker looks great with a all stainless cabinet and door.

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share some information with everyone on this thread as opposed to placing in the for sale thread. I have a rather large collection of 400EC parts I want to get rid of. I’ve done some extensive upgrades to my 1994 400EC and have old but nice condition things someone else could benefit from. List below:

Updated 7/13/17

1. Original dash Burl Wood laminate top piece only with round gauges
3. Salon bar stools complete 2x
5. Norcold OEM freezer door. Complete with hinges/cream insert
6. OEM Clarion stereo, 6201CD changer & cable, Complete Dash Remote Control Module & cable, and 2 speakers

All the stuff is pretty specific to our boats and am willing to let go cheap or swap for something you have.

I live in the Boston, MA area and had the same thing done about two years ago. I used the existing bimini frame work and had new framework made for the cockpit area. I too had to go to the only game in town and in this area they only work locally from May to September and then its off to Florida. I ordered it in April, it was measured out in June and was delivered in September just as I was getting ready to cover for the winter. Total cost for new framework, all new canvas and side curtians was $7500. We got the green Sunbrella with black threads in it. Looks really nice.

Ok help me please....how do you remove these little TV sets from the galley and forward cabin. Tv-vcr combo....I see no screws . Rigid and solidly mounted. They must go.

thanks,

jon

Saloon TV, mounting board that it sits on is screwed from the bottom.
Access is from below with a long Philips screwdriver, thru the holes you'll see while laying on your back. Remove the screws and slide it out into the room.

Forward stateroom TV.
I'll be removing mine this year (maybe).
You can remove the intieror panel from inside the port hanging locker and get access to the rear.
