Official 290 Sundancer Thread

I hope this forum is more active when the weather warms up...I already have a lot of questions, and hope I'm not always going to hear crickets....:smt100

The pic is kinda small, but I think I see ridges on the bottom. If so, I believe it would be NuTeak.

If one does not know the answer, they tend not to post a reply.

Thanks, I checked their website and looks to be it. Any idea if stain or poly can be applied to fading areas? Had my dogs on the boat for the first time and their nails scratched it pretty bad...

I looked into this product prior to buying PlasDeck for my boat, and know that you can sand and power wash it without hurting it but don't believe you can apply any type of finish as I believe it's essentially a type of PVC. You should contact them regarding appropriate cleaners, and what grit sandpaper to use. Best of luck to you.

This thread is not the most active boat specific thread simply because there are not nearly as many out there as there are of the 280's and such. But I think you will find that when you post with a question more often than not someone will have an answer. I subscribe to this thread so I do see when people post to it just because I have a lot of learned info re this boat after having one for 5 seasons. So ask away!

Hello, I need help, I have a 2007 290 and I need help removing the speaker that is located near the cabin entry, I have tried to take the cover/ trim without luck and I didn't want to used a whole lot of force either to prevent breaking anything, that speaker is blown and I would like to replace it, if anyone can help me with this task I would rally appreciate it, thanks!

Great, thanks for the help!

Gotcha thanks Cincy...I think I need to just get better and searching for my answer as well.

I have removed that panel before to install new speakers. Let me see if I have a pic of what it looked like. I believe it does just require some even force as it's mounted with those ribbed push pins. I'll double check but you should be able to get it off without breaking the board.

Here's some pics. If you zoom in you will see a couple holes at the top of this first pic. The panel has simple push pins that can be pulled out. Yeah, it takes some force but it will come out and they won't need replaced. To the left you will see the white ones which are basically the opposite. They are attached to the sidewall and not the panel.

You'll see a couple more to the left in this pic.

Thanks for the help, after looking at your pictures it should be a fairly easy job.

Can I just pop out the beige trim that is over the speaker without removing the whole panel?

This might not be a whole lot to go off of to provide any sort of good advice, but figure I will ask anyway.

I bought my boat unseen and relied on a surveyor. He told me there was a few inches of water in the bilge, but nothing to be concerned about. Upon delivery, the boat was launched across the river, and we drovekt five minutes to its wet slip, and hasn't moved since then (two months ago). I noticed the water, and knew I had a bilge pump issue, so figured that might be it. Well the pump was replaced and today when I went to soak up what I thought was just dirty water, i quickly realized it was mostly oil or some sort of lube with the water.

I got most most of it up today, and near the back of the motors, noticed a green wire cable that was clearly cut or broken from something, also lying next to it was a much thicker cable, with sort of a "square" metal end. Could this be related? I think the green wire goes to the bottom of the back of the bilge, so I was wondering if that might go to the outdrives. An identical green wire was going back of my starboard motor, but did not see one going to portside.

a few weeks ago, a tech was working on diagnosing some trim issues. My portside won't trim down all the way, and my starboard appears to be losing lube (topped it up on the reservoir at the front and its going somewhere because it's now very low).

I'm fairly certain I have multiple issues, so if anyone can help me save the hundreds I'll have to pay the marina for troubleshooting I'd appreciate it!

Definitely sounds like multiple issues. The green wire is most likely a ground wire. Better figure that out or you could have serious corrosion issues. Sorry but I don't have a good answer for the oil leak. Pictures could really help here.

Thanks again, I was able to remove it quite easy, to find out the speaker had a cable unplugged, now that know what to do I can upgrade the factory installed Panasonic......

I replaced the cabin and the cockpit arch speakers last winter. I hate the location of the other 2 cockpit speakers, behind the cabin entry door and below/behind the helm seat. I didnt bother changing those 2 out because they were blocked anyway. Most of your sound when sitting in the cockpit will come from the arch speakers, I would focus on upgrading those. Oh, and adding a sub made a big difference too.

Just a thought. I also had a similar problem when I bought my Sea Ray Sundance 290. Had a little bit of water in the bilge with a "green-ish" oil floating on the top. The water intrusion was from a cracked shift cable bellows. Replaced and took care of the water leak. Discovered that the oil in the bilge was coming from crack in the hose coming from the drive lube monitor leading to the outdrive. Any easy hose repair fixed the leak. Consider giving those items a look.
