On my 240sundeck I noticed one of my bennett trim tabs had a little bit of oil around the base of the ram the other day. Was wondering if anybody knows how to rebuild it to fix the leak.
Thanks
Erik

Erik,

By the "base of he ram" do you mean where the shaft exits the cylinder body?

Please send me your name and address in a private message and we will be delighted to send you replacement O-rings and instructions how to change them, no charge.

You didn't jump in with free help for 12 hours?! When did you decide that sleep was more important than customer service? Maybe you're losing your touch Tom.

I just got this 77 240sda and one of the trim tabs has a leaking hose at the top of the cylinder how do I replace it?

Are you sure they are Bennett? Most Bennett do not have hoses or tubing outside the transom. They could be Boat Leveler.

After some research I found out that they are Insta Trim. Thanks for your reply.

Right now I have to get the trailer in shape brakes are shot. On the tabs all I need is new hose for one the other works fine.

I have a leaking trim tab piston on my 2003 SR260DA...starboard side...I'm looking for a part number and instructions on DIY replacement. I have not finally decided on DIY...I'm mechanically inclined but DO NOT want to screw up my boat...the local Sea Ray shop has been wonderful to work with but at $125/hr, the repair can be pricey... all comments and suggestions are welcome...

If they are Bennett Trim Tabs you might be able to simply replace the o-rings without having to remove the top part of the actuator from the boat and fix the problem.

If they are Bennett and you would like to try replacing the O-rings, send me your name and address and we can mail you new O-rings and instructions how to change them, no charge.

I inspected the piston and tab...the connector at the top of the piston is cracked...Here's a picture of where the piston is cracked...right where it is connected to the hull...

Any ideas about what could cause that?

Probably old age coupled with small flaw in the casting when it was made.

Can you post a picture of the actuator in the retracted position so I can look up the part number to fix it?

Tom,

I'm not able to get a picture until next Saturday at the soonest. I found this data in a SR parts manual...My guess is the PN is a SR number, not a Bennet number...I'm working with Sea Ray of Cincinnati to get the broke piston replaced...I'm on their schedule now...I suspect the piston is out of warranty...can you confirm please?

Yes those are SeaRay part numbers. And it is out of warranty. Let me see if my guys can look up the actuators with those part numbers.

Here is what we found, it's a special actuator:

Spec, Spcr 1", Slv 5-3/8", Trvl 1-7/8", Part# SA2123A Precon 10' Tub
