Hello to all Sea Ray lovers from Greece,

I would highly appreciate if you can help me with the following : I am interested on buying a 2003 260DA with a Mercruiser 230hp Diesel. The problem is that I know nothing regarding the performance of this particular engine  nor can I find any boat test in the net :smt024
Does anyone of you guys know anything about this engine??? is its horsepower enough for this boat's weight? is it going to plane good enough? is it going to maintain a steady and adequate cruising speed or I would constantly have to increase / decrease speed all the time in order to maintain cruising speed? What are your opinions upon these worries I have?:smt100:smt100:smt100:smt100:smt100
Keep in mind that we are talking for two adults with two small children plus baggages and full tanks.
Thank you all in advance for your valuable help!!!

Since that boat was made for the European market, you are going to have to wait for someone from the other side of the pond to reply. Myguess is it will do very well, due to the additional torque generated by diesels.

This thread is a bit old, but if you're still interested in this boat with the Mercruiser diesel you should be very careful. The support and parts availability for these engines should be your biggest concern. Before you buy, find a reputable diesel service technician in your area who has worked on these engines (you'll likely find none), and then check the price and availability of spare parts such as a complete seawater pump, fuel injector, injector line, exhaust riser, thermostat, or coolant pump. Personally I would not buy a marine diesel other than Cummins, Caterpillar, or Detroit. Maybe Yanmar or Volvo if I was desperate.
