I've been on the site for a number of years lurking and learning, but I don't believe I ever updated my situation when I finally took the plunge and bought my 240 Sundancer this summer.

Well in July 2016 I found exactly what I've been looking for, a 2006 240 Sundancer with only 350 hrs in excellent shape. It was on a dock at a private residence just 3 miles from our home in Falmouth, Ma. (Cape Cod). However, I never realized how difficult it would be to find a dock in a marina in this area. But as the saying goes, "it's not what you know, but who you know" I got the last slip in the marina a mere 1/2 mile from our house. It's a great little marina, the only downfall is that I have to go under an 8ft. high bridge to get out to Vineyard Sound. So the bimini has to be raised and lowered with each passing under the bridge. And, I won't be able to stay there if the desire to go bigger hits us. No way you'd get a hard top or radar arch under the bridge.

Our first season just wrapped up and the boat is all put away for the winter. we had a ton of fun. My wife had no boating experience, I had been on my dad's Sea Ray 30 years ago, so we took the safety course and hired a captain to take us out a few times. This was well worth the money. He refreshed my skills and made my wife much more comfortable with the boat and my knowledge of boating. Amazing how when I said it she questioned me, but when the captain said the same thing it became law... He also was able to impart some "local knowledge" about places to go and placed to avoid.

So now we wait anxiously for April when she will be back in the water. And I get to shop all winter for lots of goodies to buy.

Look forward to meeting lots of you on the water.

I'm glad to hear both of you took some training. I'm the less experienced one between me and First Mate (parents gave him free reign as a teen with their much smaller runabouts, so he knows our lake very well), but he's the one who more often assumes things are true because somebody he knows said it or does it that way. He declined accompanying me to a safety course, and pretty much humors me when I mention hiring a captain.

Often when I ask him or others "why?" questions, they figure I'm disagreeing, when I'm really trying to understand if there's a regulation or some other objective guideline in play vs. a person's belief or habit. IMO, nothing beats a combination of "book learning," personal experience, and info sharing with others with the same interests....like right here on CSR!!!

So here's to you and the Admiral growing into a one of a kind team, and having many happy boating years ahead of you!

Wish I could say I was as mature as I made it seem in my first post, but I too was very skeptical about hiring a captain and if the Admiral had not sought out a captain from others on our dock and actually made the call and set up the first appointment, I would have never done it on my own. And as for the class, I was OK with taking the course as I figured It would show her that I actually did know what I was telling her, but truth be told, when we took the final exam for our certificate we both passed easily. I got a 94, SHE GOT A 97....that's what happens when you're cocky and don't completely read the question....

Congrats on the boat. There are some awesome spots to see in our area. I am just around the corner in Falmouth harbor at the end of the T in front of the Flying Bridge restaraunt.

We got married at the Flying Bridge this past September. I'm over at Green Pond Marina (on the inside with the small boats).

The captain we hired showed us some spots (Lake Tashmoo, Lamberts Cove, Hadley Cove, Oaks Bluff, Waquoit Bay, etc.) I'm looking forward to exploring these and more next summer. Also, looking to find some good fishing spots for Black Bass, Stripers and Blues and maybe even flounder. So far all I've been able to find are pogies and sea robins.

We come into Falmouth inner harbor quite often for fuel and just to gawk at the BIG yachts. We'll keep and eye out for you.

If it was on the weekend we were probably on the boat. We stay on it most weekends during the season.
You are in a great spot. We like all the places you mentioned. Other places that are great are cotuit harbor/ west bay. That is were I great up boating and is a great spot. Nice beaces to pull up in or anchor off of. There is an island in the middle with spectacular houses to see. Poppenesett bay is another great harbor to see. Nice beaches and a fun loop to go around with lots of little canals to explore. Hyannis is not too long of a ride from you and a really fun place to go. Hyannis marina is a sea ray dealer and always seems to have hourly transient slips available. Edgartown isn't a bad ride as well and another nice island port to see. They have transient mooring there with a good launch service.
Stop by if you see us in the boat next summer. My boat is 340 DA named "Flipper"
