Official AXIUS Thread

Mark, I had the same issue with the Batteries. I'm going to guess that ours were installed by the dealer! We had a set of locally produced 27 series Lead acid batteries that were flipping codes all the time. Merc Tech came in and did a "White Glove" service and gave us coupons for $125.00 off for new Batteries.
We now have 4 AGM 31 series batteries and that fixed the Axius problem... but the batteries were another issue!

Same here. Boat came with lead cell batteries even though Sea Ray recommends AGM for Axius. Axius worked fine until the batteries crapped out after 3 years. Replaced with AGM's.

This doesn't sound right, but I'm glad Sea Ray gave you two crap batteries just like they did for me. :)

More importantly, I'm glad to hear this has solved your problems because I was somewhat skeptical initially, given that I had an entire flawless season with the Axius/weak batteries.

That said, it's time for new batteries, so I'll just get the right ones!

What was the first model year for the Axius System in Sea Ray boats?

I hae a 2011 Gen II Axius system. Today I got every conceivable alarm possible. Lost control while docking. Turn the engines off and on cleared the problem or the moment, but it happened again. The alerts said engine power was reduced, starboard engine had misfired and steering was non operational, (which it wasn't). There were others as well, like a Defcon 4 "you will die unless you abandon ship, there is no hope". Engines run fine, all specs in Vessel View were fine. I was not able to clear the missfire alert. The mechanics are going to look at it but I'd like to know of any others with alerts like this.

Thanks everyone,

Greg

In Axius systems, I've noticed when all alarms go off at the same time, it's usually result of turning the key switch to "on" without having turned on the battery switches. Although since you were in motion while docking, that's probably not the case.

Update: Not sure this has anything to do with it, but Axius seems to work better if One lever and Sync is OFF. Also seems like I have to be quite gentle with the joy stick. There is a mechanic in the area who will be Axius certified soon and will have a computer set up to look at the entire Axius and Vessel View system interaction. I'll be looking forward to that.

The Axius systems seem great in theory but my impression from this thread is that old school V-drives still have a future.

We have the Axius on our 330 and it works really well. I was able to back 100' down a narrow channel to dock in a 20kt crosswind yesterday, despite it being the first time I had driven the boat since purchase.

Looking for feedback. i read the thread and have few questions. i'm buying a 310 08 with AXIUS Gen 1. At Sea trail, mechanic said the Skyhook and autopilot were disabled with white glove service. There was a new GPS installed and new Garmin 74CV Installed. The SmartCraft is not connected to the Garmin.

Any feedback on this?

I'm considering a 2011-2014 370 Sundancer with Sea Core Axius Bravo III drives. I have not owned a boat with Axius drives before. I have 3 questions:

1. Last Sea Ray I owned (V-Drive) had risers, elbows and manifolds which required replacing every 5-6 years (salt water use). I read that Sea Core does use a heat exchanger and can be flushed with fresh water/salt away to lessen the impact of salt water use. What is the life expectancy of heat exchanger, etc if this is performed?

2. Must these units be removed from the boat during every winter layup (I'm in RI and boat is hauled during winter season).

3. Aside from the corrosion issues on drives what else should I be on the lookout for from an issue or proper maintenance standpoint?

Thanks,
John

Anyone have the auto pilot (auto heading) not engage? It gave me a bunch of beeps and went to standby. Its aways worked but I've been having a CCM TVM Fault Non Critical (port) Message pop up almost every time I go out. So a tech came out and came up with its a communication error with port shift actuator. We swapped actuators from engine to engine to see if fault would follow. No error last time out but auto pilot no worky. 2009 Gen 1 Axius Premire

Hi Guys,

2008 Formula 496 Mag Ho Bravo 3 , Gen 1 Axius
Boat is inside kept and meticulously maintained and flushed after ever use..

Last few months we’ve had Major Axius issues,
* TVM overheat
* joy stick unavailable
* other starts - Joy stock works perfect
* left motor shuts down at idle and goes into overheat
* never have been contacted about any updates until now.
* it has been good till now though ...
* have had Multiple Battery issues

8-25-20
Starboard motor
* finally got a Formula Axius Guru from west cost of Fla to come over for help..
* found a HP line leak,3 weeks later ( Fixed that)
* then found Axius Steering Actuator internal seal leak.
* no parts to fix I’ve been told ( new part $10.500 plus labor.)
* been told 10 units left on shelf and no choices...
* Also worried about when Port will fail also.

Thank you for any thoughts

I got my auto pilot working again! I noticed that my speed in vessel view was not working so I looked at GPS antenna and the cable connecting to it just fell apart. Its a nmea 2000 cable with 5 pins encased in plastic. The plastic stayed in the GPS antenna connector while the cable and 5 pins just fell out. I followed the cable down the arch where I found another connector basically extending the cable and pulled that apart and same thing happened there. The cable continued forward to right side of Helm where all the Axius computers are. There is a y connector that connects GPS and IMU to Axius. I replaced the GPS cable and everything works again. Auto Pilot is the best thing ever! Very happy.

Well after going out this weekend my auto heading does work but I did get ccm fault. Sometimes when going fast I get CCM:CompassInstallationIncorr fault. After I slow down for a bit it goes away. I did notice that my heading reading in vesselview is off by 10 degrees. Anyone ever seen this fault before?

I had upgraded my stereo and new speaker closest to the IMU compass was messing with it. I relocated the IMU compass and all good now

I am getting the same CCM compass fault with any speed and goes away when I slow down. This started after I replaced the gps antenna. Just wondering if you had any thoughts or ideas to help me figure this one out.

So i'm still getting this fault when I go fast, I've read that the IMU needs to calibrated. I did have a mechanic go for a ride with me with the Merc G3 software connected and we saw IMU readings were a little off. It needs calibrating but no one seems to know how to do it.

I got it fixed! Found out that the IMU was now dead and the harness that connects it had falied. Had to buy a new IMU and replace the harness. The harness connects the IMU and GPS antenna to the J Box. I relocated IMU to a better location and had it calibrated. Bam! works great and no faults
