Everyone should have access

They never said why the men's room or did I miss it???

Wtf ........nevermind don't want to know.

This won't last too long as the need for these products is very limited in the men's restroom.

With the Male to Female being 3 times more popular than the Female to Male, these products will either remain unused or be vandalized by those college students unwilling to deal with them in their restroom. The expense of these products will eventually outweigh the perceived need and it will all be forgotten.

It pains me to think that the poor less fortunate student that can't afford these products would be happier to see free tampons instead of more affordable education. I wonder how many tampons it takes to break even. It most feel good giving when you are the cause of the problem in the first place. If you give something away for free you can charge someone else twice as much to pay for it oh wait a minute that's Obama Care never mind train fell off the track there for a second.

I support the initiative, but I think you're on track suggesting consumption from male restrooms may result from vandalism rather than the intended purpose. If the organization tracks usage, it may end up shifting focus to female and neutral restrooms.

I was going to ask for a females opinion on this, as most every male I know don't have cycles (contrary to what some wives/girlfriends say).

Most every female I know carries there own supplies including my own two girls. So wether you are female wanting to be a male or just female one would think they carry the supplies they are comfortable using. I'm not a dumb boy, I know there are as my girls say, accidents.

All this brings up another question tho. Once the prankster decides to flush a handful down the toilet will the Head of the Student Council be on the hook for the repairs, or will they be there to get their hands dirty and clean up the mess?

Seems to to be another case of PC gone wrong. No matter what your gender wishes or fact might be.

You're right many keep supplies with them when possible. Many employers/public restrooms provide vending machines; some employers/public restrooms are starting to provide them free of charge, as well. (My company provides them in all corporate locations that I've visited, as well as in some of the care facilities I've visited.)

I think the WHAT of the student organization's effort is being overshadowed by the WHERE. The primary objective sounds to be providing menstrual products free of charge--a very welcome action. For students on extremely limited budgets, it may have meaningful impact. This action in and of itself may be controversial to some, but perhaps not very many.

However, choosing to provide the products in female, neutral, and male restrooms is a separate consideration and probably is what's creating greater controversy.

As to the potential mess from bad behavior.... This exists already, whether in colleges, grade schools, or corporate America (unfortunately!), and whether from toilet tissue, paper towels, cardboard rolls, and other items aside from menstrual supplies.

I was astounded at the messes some of my (female) floor mates left in the communal restrooms when I attended university....and mortified to learn that a couple members of the custodial staff in my current building refused to service one floor due to similar problems in the women's restroom.

It SEEMS that this whole can of worms started here in Gloucester High School here in VA with the girl that sees herself as a guy and wants to use the boys restrooms.

I do see the bases for this groups actions and completely agree with you T about the financial costs and assistance. I can also understand the neutral restroom placement. I just can't wrap my mind around why in the mens restroom, ex specially when there is a neutral restroom. Maybe I am just being a dumb boy after all.

The learning experience of going off to school is more than educational. From a financial viewpoint you should learn to either stretch what you have or do something to supplement it.

Smelly outhouses and the Sears catalog have evolved to the convenience of bathrooms and toilet paper, but it's not really free.... taxes, tuitions, the benefits of a job, some how you've paid for or earned them. Now the most basic of health/personal hygiene some how should be provided and free. For the student to have to worry about such things would distract from their education they say...wtf.:smt101

Maybe there should be a big toothpaste dispenser in the bathrooms too and free toothbrushes and we can fluff their pillows before bed time.

I'm watching you kid, piss away a nickel on one party, some wine, some weed, or some ink to express your individuality and no free Maxi pads for you....

Not a "dumb boy" thing. Even when available in the same vicinity as male or female restrooms, people who are transgender don't default to using a neutral/unisex one. I don't know how anyone would measure the need for products in men's restrooms without asking every visitor very personal questions, so I'm guessing any organization that aims for the highest level of inclusion would do what Brown is doing and make them available in all restrooms.

As long as you take away the toilet paper, too!

The point the Brown organization and others are trying to make is that menstrual supplies are equivalent to toilet paper--they're "the most basic of health/personal hygiene" products important to dealing with human excretions and avoiding public health issues, not to mention the embarrassment and cleanup time associated with accidents if supplies aren't available (ever go dashing from your desk/car/restaurant table to the bathroom after having one too many chili dogs with extra jalapenos at last night's football game? Bet you were REALLY glad there was TP in there!) And if toilet paper is "free" (through taxes or as a cost of doing business for educational institutions, restaurants, whatever), why not menstrual products?

This Newsweek article gives some more food for thought: http://www.newsweek.com/free-tampons-pads-us-schools-496083

My guess, the 'tampons' in the College Mens restroom can be used as a metaphor for our current snowflake generation......

We know you have a boat Frank so which is it for you, too much time on your hands or winter around the corner? :smt001

He needs an original idea. A marathon runner who happens to be a Harvard MBA already flashed this "cause" in the pan several news cycles ago.

To trflgrl: Re: your tp/tampon argument. I admire your zeal, however the basis for your argument is flawed.

How so?

I think that tampons in the men's restrooms is a great idea. C'mon man, we all know some guys that are real pussies! Maybe this will make them all feel more loved.
