270 Sundeck Thread - Questions & Answers

I like the look of the 270 Sundeck, probably an 05 to 07.
There doesn't seem to be many threads on here that i have found so far - Was it a low volume seller for SR?
I like the idea of the 496 Mag engine - any particular reasons why I shouldn't?
If I buy one it'll be based in Venice so I can explore the Gulf and the intracoastals.
Any other items I should have a marine surveyor particularly investigate?
We are also considering a Sundancer but I don't think we'd be looking to overnight anywhere. Still, you never know. The Sundeck is a nice layout but we need to be sure that we wouldn't miss at least having the option of overnight in in a cabin.
Cheers,

Paul

My brother had an 04. Nice boat and layout. 496 Mag FOR SURE. He had the 6.2 and it was a dog out of the hole. Not enough torque for that boat IMO.

Quite the old thread but welcome.

There are a couple of 270 owners here but I don't think it was a big seller. Sea Ray (and others) crossed a line when they made these things. Its a big heavy boat. Optioned out and full of fuel, water, and stuff I think I'm close to #8000 before you stick it on a #2000 trailer. Most buyers of a bowrider are not looking to purchase a new tow vehicle and deal with oversized permits (width). They want to park it in their yard and go to the lake on the weekend which limits the appeal of something the size of the 270.

You "could" overnight in this boat just like you "could" spend the night in a Ford Fiesta on the side of the highway.

That said, we love ours. It fits the needs of our family quite well. Get the 496-its a perfect match for the boat. Enjoy.

Thanks TDGard and Highslice.
I'm not looking to trailer it anywhere so the size is a plus rather than a minus factor.
I'm hoping to use a local marina who will take it off the rack, launch, recover, wash down and pop it back on the rack for us every time we want to go for a splash about.
We have a bit of time to look around and see what will work best for us as we are looking to "retire" to Venice in the next 3 years.

Finalizing paperwork on an 05 270 SunDeck w/496. Should have the keys by Thursday! Previously had 2 240's ( 5.0 and 383) and always wanted to move up to the 270. Can't wait to get back to boating.

Just signed the deal on a new 2017 270 Sundeck / SDX Outboard! Went with the 300 Verdo, black (sides) and white (bottom) hull, large / water sports tower, mocha interior, upgraded stereo, digital dash, trailer, etc...Now just waiting until it comes in (late Oct / early November). I plan on making a trip to the plant in mid-October to see her being built! Will post pics as I get them.

That boat looks awesome! Congrats and good luck with the wait.

SeaNile how is the new boat? I'm guessing you have it back in PA by now.

It's awesome and honestly, so much bigger than I originally thought. We really liked the 240 having had 2 of them but the 270 is perfect for us. So far no noticeable difference in fuel usage either.

Heading out again tomorrow for a quick trip to the Chesapeake Inn for lunch. We are trying to use is as much as possible before the end of season.

Small to do list for the winter. I'd really like to get a new bimini top and prices are all over the place ranging from about $500 to $1000. Also need to get the bottom and i/o painted. Having never been painted before that's going be an expensive paint job.

Anyone replace their factory speakers? What did you buy , and how do you like them. Looking to replace and add a sub over winter .

I replaced all of my speakers with JL Audio and added a 10" sub under the rear port seat. Rewired everything and powered it all from a JL 700/5 amp. Expensive but sounds awesome.

Man sounds nice. There's not a factory amp of any sorts is there ? Haven't had much time to check out the wiring, but enough to think I would of found an amp.

There is an amp. If you remove the speaker next to the drivers knee it's in there and below. That runs the 4 cockpit speakers. The two in the bow are wired directly to the head unit.

Thanks. Do you happen to know the out put of the amp?. I should of guessed that, the bow speakers come on a spit second before cockpit speakers do when I turn key on.

I don't know the specs on it. Seemed like a weenie little thing. I just took it out of line when I replaced everything.

Yes it would be custom. I am hoping someone has already had it done and wanted to know what it might look like for some ideas. I called sea ray for pictures since an enclosure is an option but, did not get any pictures.
