240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

I installed the Garmin GPSMAP 741xs using a RAM 1.5" ball mount, attached to a Short Arm and pass thru riser. I mounted it to the left of the speedometer. I can still see the speed on that gauge but use the GPS speed on the Garmin instead anyway. It has worked out great.

My sea temp and depth sounder both stopped working. Everything else seems fine. All smartcraft gages function normally, except for sea temp and depth. Just get -.- on the display. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

My depth sounder went bad. (It is the black thru hull plug in the hull just in front of the motor, in case you don't know.) The wiring runs around the engine bay and plugs into the wiring harness on the top front of the engine. Mine even still had a sticker on the plug so I could find it. I ordered a new unit online, to takes a bit of time to run the wires around the motor, but replacement is a pretty simple job. I found mine on Amazon for $260, Mercury Mercruiser Quicksilver OEM Part # 79-8M0075631 SENSR DP/TMP

See GPS install by denwatson for an option.

Chuck 1, My grandson who lives with my wife and I has a 240 SD 2008 i recently bought for him as a birthday gift,
His name is Mark, since he does not have his own computer i'm letting him ask his questions on your new thread.

Hi,
My 2008 240 S.D. has a MerCruiser 5.0L MPI Bravo 111MCM, Maybe you could explain please what all those numbers and letters means? and also, next to my out drive, looking forward, on the right side upper is a 3" x5" something with a wire
going up under the swim platform, would you know what that is?, Also, the boat has 135 hours according to our recently purchased paper work,
where in the hour meter?
Thanks
Mark

Hours should show up on the dash read out. Might have to switch between screens to see it.
Can you take a picture of the item you are talking about.
Thanks
Chuck

Hi chuck,
trouble sending picture,I took a picture but my gramps forgot how to put it on the forum ........The thing in question could be the transducer??

Can you answer any of the other questions im my post?

Thanks

Mark.

I would not think it was a transducer mounted up on the transom. The 5.0L MPI is the type/size of the engine. The Bravo III (3) is the type of prop you have.

Just found this thread! I'm looking for a 240 SunDeck in the 2002+ range considering my budget is about $25k. I read a lot of posts and am seeing a lot of great information. Will be using the boat in Barnegat Bay for day trips to Tices, LBI, cruising around through lagoons, tubing, and just enjoying being on the water. Learned a lot from this thread as to what to look for. Tell me if I'm missing anything:

- look for 5.7 or 6.2 motor, Bravo 3 drive
- try and find one that has had bellows, manifolds, risers done since that is a $3k job
- bow filler cushion and ski tower were options and nice to have
- will need a grab handle by rear boarding ladder

Anything else I should look for in my search? Seems to be quite a bit to choose from now that the season here is winding down. Looking to purchase over the winter so that if it needs repairs/service that can be done before I drop it in the water around May 1st. Boat will be kept in the water behind my house in Bayville. This will be my first SeaRay, first I/O but second boat.

Has anyone painted and redone their interior? I have the neutral color 2001 factory exterior and interior but she needs an overhaul. I am thinking of painting the sides black where the newer ones had color. Also thinking of changing the interior to the new style like this one as well as adding the teak looking seadek throughout the entire cockpit. Just wanting to see what others have done to get ideas.

I put s/s cup holders in mine...................... and thought why am I doing this on a 13 year old boat?

I've done that as well. And because for the size, no boat has the amount of storage as the 240 SD. I don't ever want to give it up. I also have a Regal 27' deck boat and it has literally about half the storage as the 240

When i shift from N to forward or reverse i hear a slight clunk sometimes,
mechanic says its no big deal and not to worry about it...Common on IO and outboards

Thanks Mark.

OK for him to use the thread under my name....all is well......Thanks Tonka for looking out.
