Official 290 Sundancer Thread

My wife and usually 1 or both kids (now 4 and 6.5) are on that round port seat while underway. I agree a lounger is nice (had one on our 320), but the walkthrough windshield was a must for us. There was an option for a filler that doubled the width of the aft bench. I have yet to see one or a picture of one being used on a 290. Thinking about the time spent in that area while on the hook for example, we are entertaining or eating or both, but not doing much lounging. If the kids aren't swimming, they are down below playing. Lounging on the forward deck is my preference when I have the chance.

A filler for the aft bench can easily be made och bolted to the step on the port side. I´v seen some pic's on it but i can't find them right now. The same for us. We are entertaining or eating or both, but not doing much lounging. I spend as much time as possible on the sunbed on forward deck.

I have heard that the filler for the aft bench that was an option is heavy, and awkward to store. I looked for one but I don't think there are many around. I only recall one being sold on this forum a year or two back. The port side seating is not ideal, especially for larger folks. I like the rear bench as my daughter usually grabs the forward deck with her friends. We bought a cheap foam pad to lay on.

I just splashed Wednesday, oil change today. Replaced the A/C intake hoses over winter (5 min job) as the old rubber was cracking. Have a small drip under the A/C pump that I need to investigate.

Does anyone hav e issues with AM/FM radio reception? The factory antenna is mounted behind the main panel and is only about 8 inches tall. I have pretty poor reception and was thinking of putting in a better antenna somewhere outside of that space behind the panel.

Can someone tell me a part or type of fuel filter on a 2006 290? Mine is likely original and I am thinking should be replaced.

If buy quicksilver fuel filter it says on the box which engines it fits. Think there are only two types of fuel filters for Mercruiser. Those fits MPI and those that fits all other engines.

Picked up my new to me '06 290 end of February and have been slowly getting it ready for the season. Previous owners neglected her a bit but a few parts and some time with a buffer and she's shining like new (almost).

So I have a couple questions,

1. Does anyone know what bulb to use in the galley overhead fixture? Theres no bulb and I can't seem to find any info.

2. I can't for the life of me figure out the fixtures in the mid cabin. I have a bulb out in there as well and can't get to the actual bulb. I'm sure it's simple and I'm just missing it.

3. Has anyone had seadek installed on the swim platform and/or the cockpit? I removed the carpet cause it was in such rough shape and don't really want to replace it with more carpet.

Hi Boz,

1. Is your galley fixture round? Mine is and uses one of the 2 pin G4 style halogen bulbs.

2. If you're referring to the reading lights in the mid cabin, you can get access to the bulbs by popping out the round cover/diffuser using a flathead screwdriver. There's a small slot between the diffuser and the body of the light, and it just prys out.

3. No experience with the SeaDek, but I recently tossed out the original carpet, and am replacing with the Corinthian Marine Aquaweave Natural Teak vinyl. I should be receiving it soon so I don't have a final opinion, but the samples seemed great and not "carpet-like". I too didn't want to replace with more carpet, but the other options were too pricey for my taste (NuTeak, SeaDek, Flexiteek, etc.).

Excellent thanks! I was able to get that round cover off and get to the bulb. I knew it had to be easy.

Don't have personal experience with SeaDek, but read that if on the swim platform, it gets hot in the sun. We like sitting back there a lot and that would be a problem for us. Make sure you check/replace the impellers. First think I did when I took possession of my 2006 2 years ago. Replaced water pumps and impellers, which were in pieces when removed. Replacing again now while oil is being changed just for piece of mind.

Hmm, I thought I'd read that it was the seadek that stayed cool. There are a few others (like Nuteak maybe?) that do get hot. I will research a bit more.

The impellers and water pumps were replaced before I took delivery. The survey found a number of things which we negotiated into the contract.

I need to talk with anyone who has a 1992 290 sea ray sundancer with twin 4.3 xl engines. Just got mine and i have some questions that they might be able to answer.

I have blue LED lights. There not the same as the original mounted underwater lights. I´l have a look at the wiring and check how i can rewire. Want to be able to have the LED´s on when running or at anchor without shore power or generator.

Over the spring, I installed 3 SeaBlaze mini's to replace the under-transom lights. I simply wired the mini's into the old lights' cabling which worked like a charm.

Have you or anyone here tried to change impeller on the Kohler generator on a 2006 model? I see where to but I unscrewed bolts and they wont come all the way out because water tank is in the way. Do I have to unbolt the generator from the boat and slide it out to change? Any help would be appreciated.

From what I have seen, water tank and generator can be mounted differently on 290´s. Why I do not know. Can you upload a picture?

Hi all, does anyone know where the engine alarm beeper can be found . Upon ignition the starboard engine alarm is very low and I would like to change it. Thanks in advance....
