There is no way I am reading 714 pages of bickering. This argument comes down to one of 2 things. You are either
1. Comfortable with guns
OR
2. You are a wimp
The only standing argument about a gun is that it scares some people.

I'm thinking that most fans of The Bern would be very comfortable just being sheep. It takes some huevos and some gumption to want to be a sheepdog. If fans of The Bern had any of those two qualities I doubt our welfare rolls would be as large as they are.

Perhaps this tread would have been better if had been directed more towards larger boats versus smaller runabout, center consoles or deck boats? I know on my sundeck I typically do not have a gun, but on my Sundancer when I had it, I kept a gun on board. when I was on board.

The argument would be that boats can kill people, so no one should have boats. Has there ever been a situation where a boat killed someone? How about a gun killing someone?

Hand guns and rifles are treated differently. I carried a rifle on the ICW from FL to MD. Before entering each state I had to research the requirements of that state. Easily found on the internet. For example MD as I recall requires a rifle be unloaded and locked separate from the ammo which also must be locked vs FL which allows an unlocked loaded rifle. Remember each state has different requirements for handguns.
