how did you guys get through the last few days waiting for your closing?

mine is March 10th..
going crazy,
got insurance,
slip taken care of,
money all squared away with the bank,
ordered more lighting (one more underwater light), and new LED bulbs for cockpit area..

less than 9 days away, and i feel like i'm forgetting a million and one things..

now i have to figure out what i should use for cleaning supplies and wax :smt100
GRRR.. :smt021

by your own boat, they all said,
it will be fun, they all said..

MASOCHISTS.. every one of you..

That is the short wait,i have 8 weeks until launch,it is snowing like crazy, another foot expected today and then more on thursday.Wait untill next year if you store on land for the winter, now thats a long wait.

Our boat comes out of storage on April 1st. We've been counting down the days since November 1st, 2015.

It sucks. I'm going bat poop crazy.

Making to do lists.

Buying crap I need and don't need.

Hanging out with peeps/friends from our Marina.

Going to useless boat shows.

Crying about it.

Nothing helps...

Pony,

Drugs and alcohol worked for me. Just kidding....at least on the drugs part. For me is was many trips to West Marine, shopping online, surfing every boating article and story on the internet I could find. Speaking of good stories go to this site and watch the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeE92WVe_so#t=50 This is why I boat.

closing is next week..
she is dry stored indoors right now..
wont be wet until 1st-2nd week of april..

going crazy because the one an only time i drove it was the day before the sea-trails..

owner let me take it for a test ride..

excitement to say the least.. i have so much to learn about it.. and dont know what or how to do it..

for instance..
when they drop it in.. they tow it to a slip..

who starts it? who checks everything (oils and filters all changed prior to putting away).. if im supposed to do it.. where do i begin? and how?

is there a check list? where can i get it?

Ok here's a few ideas :

  • Drink after 5 pm
  • Trips to the Marina and look at the empty slip
  • Trips to West Marine for stuff you think you might need
  • Trip to a local "boatesque" bar and restaurant and drink and eat
  • Surf the HELL out of this site and the other "non denominational" boating forum
  • Place orders on Amazon prime and Defender for stuff you think you might need
  • Make list of todo's and to buy's then make sub-lists of those lists
  • Drink after 4:15 pm
  • Search out the best deals on and subscribe to boating magazines you won't get anything out of
  • Buy Ropes that you think you will use
  • Go back to the marina and sip a cocktail dreaming of spring
  • Update the seasonal work list
  • Did I mention have a cocktail?

Its the longest shortest time you'll ever wade through, sorry buddy

You've refreshed this site a million times and you still don't know what to use to clean and wax? Obviously you've been focusing your energy elsewhere.

Hang in there--the fun really IS just around the corner!

Oh my goodness. It's so nice to hear that other people are as compulsive, obsessive and crazy about boating. I once told someone that, "boating saved my life." Later he told me that he thought I was mentally ill (literally) as a result.

- Michael

P.S. I should probably be working at the moment but here I am talking boating because as it gets closer to launch day it gets harder and harder to wait.

I can TOTALLY side with you Michael lol!

When we bought our boat, we closed the weekend before Thanksgiving and, like you, had to wait until spring to take possession. It was the longest winter I've been through! Aside from Ctsearay's tips - all good ones - I bought charts and cruising guides for our area and spent hours poring over them and the manuals for the boat and onboard equipment.

i work from home, and right now is kinda slow, which makes it even worse..
my wife is going crazy because 90% of what i talk about is the boat..

i have downloaded EVERY PDF manual i could think of.. genset, windless, radio, amplifier, engines (owner and service), smart-craft, auto pilot and the list goes on..

played with Navionics to map out trips to get an idea of fuel costs and travel time..
poured over EVERY single video i could find..
watched my seatrial engine video about 10,000 times..

now i cant lie... since placing the deposit in Oct.. this winter has literally FLOWN BY..

until the past week..
and here i am posting again... less than 24 hours after the start of this thread.. and i feel like im no closer..

You will all probably hate me but...

We launched our new to us 270 Sun Dancer in Roosevelt Lk AZ last Saturday. Was in the low to mid 80's no wind had so much fun we took Monday off just to hang in the boat on the water. Roosevelt is the largest lake in AZ over 20 miles long and 4 wide. We are looking forward to the summer.

Been too many years since I had a boat I could keep in a slip and spend a night on.

I have to post again because, well, that's what we do.

+1 to the chart plotting, manual reading, accessory buying, yachtworld.com searching (even though I just bought a brand new boat), youtube watching (I don't think there is a Boattest.com video I haven't seen), new projects, reviewing the materials from my OUPV study guides, forum reading, and way too much more.

Get this. I own my own company so I've planned all company events for the Spring and Summer to be places on the Chesapeake or in Philly that I can get to by boat so I don't have to stay in hotels. I've done the same for the Winter, where I've moved all our events to Fort Lauderdale so I can run south in the Fall and fly down every month and stay on the boat. And... all of these trips offer completely legal write-off's for me. The boat gets used in place of a hotel.

Most importantly, my 11-year-old son has been completely brainwashed. He has a sign up in his room that says, "Bla, bla, bla... if it's not about boating, don't talk to me."

I feel your pain. I closed on mine on January 21st. It's been in dry storage at my dealer since then. I'm supposed take delivery the last week in March.

I have a stack of stuff I've bought for it already in the corner of my man cave. I've been to the slip I leased and have run the empty lift up and down. I've read and printed tons of stuff. I've got a list of things I still want to buy, and things I want to do.

Heck, even though I'll probably only tow it a couple of times a year (and for short distances), I even went out and bought a new tow vehicle last week.

I almost didn't make it through yesterday because it was 70 degrees here, AND the first boat payment came out of my bank account AND the service tech at the dealer called and said he was starting to install the upgrades I added when I closed (2nd battery & switch), upgraded satellite stereo system.
