2015-16 Football thread - any team banter welcome.

Waa, waa, waa..... He's still a dick. And for the record, why would I want to be friends with an a-hole.

I won't be watching the game because of his lack of class....unless someone calls me and says Denver is winning.

so you DO know how most folks feel about the 'Hawks defense and the 12's

......and the 12's

True.... True.....

(I'm wondering if I should even be saying anything seeing as Cleveland doesn't have a professional football team :smt017)

Mark, I guess it's because many people hold these athletes up to be their heroes and expect them to act with a certain amount of decorum.

An example: Look at Russell Wilson at his post-game conferences. He's showered, dressed in a suit, humble and politely answering even the dumbest questions thrown at him and giving credit to his team mates.

Cam, on the other hand, comes out with a towel over his head and his "IT'S ALL ME, IT'S ALL ME" attitude.

Hey Mike, it's just a sport for crying out loud. Who cares if he's wearing a towel over his head or if he's wearing a suit? I don't care...Richard Sherman is a jerk on the field but a good guy off the field. Who cares? I don't have like him or Russell Wilson (which I don't). But I don't spend my time worrying about either of them. They are who they are. I think that we take life serious enough without putting those expectations on a sport we watch on tv.

Peyton Manning said this about Cam Newton himself last night: He'll be the face of the league for the next 8-10 years.

I think the enthusiasm is infectious really. It's a refreshing change from the suit and tie look that permeates both the sport and the in studio television coverage. The sport needs to lighten up...I would find that more palatable.

Newton acts like he got into the end zone all on his own with no one else's help. He needs to watch guys like Russell Wilson. With Wilson it's never about what he did, it's always about the team and the great game the other players had.

Newton is a talented athlete but he sucks pond scum as a human being.

+1.....

Just an observation but I think there are two kinds of sports fans on the planet...

Those who are appalled by players that have to "jerk themselves off" every time they make a play and those who don't care if they do.

Looks regional....

I think Northshore hit the nail on the head.

With Newton it runs deeper than just the self aggrandizement he displays. He came with baggage from college, starting with his old man trying to "sell" his services to the highest bidder, prompting the Newton rule and many other issues. Google them. It is to Rivera's and the rest of the Panthers staff's credit, they have been able to keep him out of Johnny Manzel type trouble on the way to the Super Bowl. Leopards rarely change their spots...

Boy oh boy, such hate for a guy that plays football for a living. Jeeze.
For the record, I don't think it's great seeing Cam do some of the things he does, but dang if it would get my panties all in a wad! haha
The funny thing is, it seems like Seattle fans are rubbed wrong by Cam, but it's ok for Sherman to act like he does? Double standard much. Y'all do realize it took more than the Panthers beating them to knock them (Seahawks) out of contention. Haha

Sour grapes much? I just wonder how deep your hate for Newton would be if the Seachickens beat them... I agree that Wilson conducts himself professionally but it almost seems rehearsed sometimes. He is probably a good guy and I wouldn't mind him behind center for the Niners but be careful about the pedestal you put him on. I hope he stays humble since the NFL needs more like him, Frank Gore, Barry Sanders, etc.

Ken, for the record it has nothing to do with the Seahawks winning or losing. Sure I'm disappointed the Hawks aren't in the SB. I was born in Seattle and have been a fan since year one and Seattle has had some QB's that had no class nor talent. I still liked the team. I am not a fan of Kapernick, not because of his lack of talent and ability but because of his lack of class. I truly hope someone sees him for the talent he is and develops and mentors him. If that happens you won't need Wilson. Harbaugh did a number on the kid.

What has Sherman done since the Super Bowl that was controversial? He has continued to play great football. I was taken aback by his interview after the SB win but he really hasn't put himself out there like Newton. My feelings for Newton have nothing to do with Seattle not having a better season.

Mike, I think you hit some of that last comment right on the money. Newton came from the environment he did. Wilson came from a prominent, affluent family structure that appears to spiritually grounded and comfortable with the attention. I'm not a big fan of either of the Mannings but no one would say they lack class....they had a pretty solid family environment.

Lastly, Mark you're right....it is just a game. But its more than a game, its entertainment and people get paid extremely well for the entertainment of us idiots that get sucked in to it. In the big picture none of this ranting and wailing is going to give Newton what I consider "class." He is who he is and for the most part, a product of his environment....as we all are to a degree.

I would like to just work on the boat this weekend and skip the game just like I would skip a movie with an actor I don't like....but I can't. the Admiral is from New Orleans and to those folks the Mannings are royalty. She's gonna make me watch it unless the Panthers do to the Broncs what the Seahawks did. That would be my only motivation for rooting for Carolina....I might get the outdrive back on the Cobalt. Go Panthers!....No wait, I mean go Broncos! Aww crap....this really sucks.

Islandhopper, just to set the record straight, I don't hate Cam and my panties are not in a wad. I think he's a great q'back and I admire his passing and running ability. His personality--not so much.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen players from all teams, including the Seahawks, who lacked character. I was in DTW when the Hawks were there to play the Steelers in the Superbowl and was standing in the lobby of the hotel where the Hawks were staying. As the players were coming out of the elevator I approached a few of them to wish them good luck and ask for their autograph. Interestingly, the linemen were eager to chat and sign autographs. A group of 4 receivers came out of the elevator and as we approached them they walked right past us without even thanking us for the good luck wishes.

I think the Panthers are going to win he SB. I'd like to see Peyton and company walk away with the trophy but I doubt that's going to happen. But, I've seen stranger things happen in the NFL. Just look back to last year's intercepted pass at the goal line. Geeesh, WHY DID THEY THROW THAT BALL?

Well, one thing I really do hate is being told that calling a spade a spade is hate. We all seem to mainly agree on what it is he does, it is whether we feel it is right or wrong that we differ on. The facts in his background either can be chalked up as youthful indiscretion or evidence of charactor flaws.

One additional fact exists, He is damn good in the system they built for him. The most interesting point in the game will be if the Denver D, the likes of which they have not seen this year, is tough. Will NC be able to beat it? None of you seenm to even think they have a chance.

Hey Island, can we discuss in depth the Tar-Heel academic cheating that goes all the way back to Dean Smith after the Super Bowl?

MM

Hey Mike, I'm all for calling spades, spades. Problem I have with your spade is, it's an OPINION, not fact. You want to dump out some opinated statements, cool. But you don't know the guy, just what the stupid tv tells you. Then you speak as you have some sort of inside information about him. Sorry but your posts come accross with anger. Which to me is hate.
Man I thought you were smarter than that.

Ok, go first. You don't hate Cam.
I wouldn't want to hear how you talk about someone you hate then.
Cam is an NFL quarterback. He prances around acting like a fool, but he's having a good time. He isn't hurting anyone, he hasn't beat his girlfriend, got arrested for anything.....

You know, I don't know why I'm defending him like I know him. I dont. I don't even watch football really. I just know what he does here in Charlotte, and think he does some pretty terrific stuff for his fans. Specially for the kids.

Well, it's about 24 hours till Super Bowl game time. I don't think I've seen a single person that thinks that Denver will win the game.

I think Denver will win!

Here's why not necessarily in any order.

The big portion of the Denver team was completely skunked by Seattle two years ago. That gives them two things, the embarrassment they want to erase and the knowledge and experience of being there. Carolina does not have that knowledge and experience. Denver has little pressure as few think they will win a evidenced by the betting lines.

Defense wins championships, Denver has the top defense in the league this year. Anytime you have a great defense it can keep you in a game. The way to disrupt the Carolina offense this to get after Cam and not hang back. That's what Seattle did to them last year and Atlanta did to them this year in their last two losses. The Seahawks website noticed it. LOL

http://www.seahawks.com/news/2016/0...owout-loss-seattle-seahawks-super-bowl-xlviii

Denver has had very few distractions this week. Carolina has spent the whole week talking about Cam Newton, all of his baggage, and the cocky attitude of the entire team.

Carolina has been a fast starter but tends to let up and let teams back in later. Going to Super Bowl with extended half times etc. that usually doesn't work very well in the Super Bowl

I think Denver by a touchdown.
