Official 240 Sundancer Thread

Has anyone got the clear skirt that attaches to the bow rail. If so, do you use it and why? I tried to fit mine on the weekend and it looked like it didn't belong on my boat.

Hello, just bought a 2000 model 240 sundancer that has been repowered with a 383 Mag MPI on a new trailer and look forward to reading through this thread to help get to know it. I am in Perth, Western Australia.

Cheers,
Stuart.

just finished reading the 167 pages over a few days, looks like along with the 383 mpi mag motor I also have a capstan anchor winch as a non standard feature, I don't think the fridge is working on shore power, but it works on 12v

Installed new bilge (went from a 800gph to a 1100gph) automatic bilge pump. I also replaced the hot water heater. I found out the same company that makes what I found to be top rated water heater also makes the store brand West Marine water heater so I saved some money getting that one. It has a stainless look to it but I believe it is aluminum. I need to figure out how to purge the air out of the water heater now so the tank fills with water. I also ended up having to replace the bilge blower as that went out when the compartment was flooded from the water heater fitting breaking lose from the water heater and the bilge filling with water. I could not get the engine to restart at all so I replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, and starting coil. She started right up. I believe the actual part that failed was the starter coil but it's peace of mind knowing the rest has been replaced. Can't figure out how to post pictures in the thread so I apologize for that.

This is a first time posting for me. I own a 2004 240SD. The boat came with a Smart Craft digital display that can scroll through a bunch of the operational functions of the boat/engine including the depth finder. It appears the transducer has failed and I'm looking to get it fixed. My local marina called Sea Ray and they advised installing a entire new Smart Craft display and transducer. Total cost installed is looking around $1,500.00. I'm looking to see if anyone else has had this problem and if it can be solved less expensively?

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Everyone,
Just joined, thought I'd say hello. I bought a Sundancer 240 in Feb 2015 and having' a great time, love it. Like most people find, the winch or lack of is an oversight but I only ran that 8mm rusty manual chain out once to test it and soon fitted a Muir VR600 windlass with 40m of 6mm chain. Its a must, I wouldn't own a boat like this without one. Plus I can anchor on my own. I've made a few mods and spent a bit of cash on it. My recent is a new circ pump since it was running cold after I ran aground on new years eve and got sand everywhere, (it wasn't the thermostat). I've done the sea pump, 2 x 1000amp cold crank batteries, enerdrive 20A charger (converter) and various other bits, so still a learning curve. Right now I'm playing around with blue and clear led light throughout (under the table is fabulous). Anyway looking forward to reading through the threads.
Cheers

there are two switches on the L/H side bulkhead as you enter the cabin, one turns on the cabin lights, what does the other do?

Cheers,
Stuart

I put a windlass on my boat also. V-700 Lewmar. Works great. Not sure why Sea Ray wouldn't offer this as an option. I also have a wireless remote for it. Easy to install, and gives the ability to leave the helm if you single hand as I do.
Your boat is alittle different than mine, but if I can help I'll chime in.

Purging out the air? At the risk of sounding like a smart a$$. Open the faucet? Explanation, the air will push out the faucet as the water fills the tank, when you get water the tank is full.

I got nothing on the fridge a/c except check the breaker, make sure it's still wired up.

How does your boat do with the 383mpi? My 5.0 is marginal, but works. I would think the 383 would be awesome.

Good question, mine doesn't do anything either so I'll check it out. I know my courtesy lights around the cabin don't work. Maybe its those?

The switch at the door has to be in the on position for the cabin lights to work. Then each light is turned on/off with it's own switch. I use the switch at the door to turn everything off if I leave the boat.

You're right, you wouldn't really go anywhere without anchoring so why do it. Why put a cumbersome manual anchor/chain in boat this size with these features. I guess sea ray have learnt and are doing it as a default now. I will say though that I do love sea ray quality, reliability and performance. :)

a question about using the Muir VR600 anchor winch on a DA240, do you tie the anchor off once its raised? and if so how?

Mike, ill let you know how the 383 goes, it will be in a few weeks time when I am off roster.

Cheers,
Stuart
