Ok leak in the salon windshield , does anyone know how to find where it's coming from and how to fix it .
Think it's actually leaking at the bottom it's raining now and seems to be wet only at the bottom not dripping down the dividers .

Maybe there is something in this thread that will help, Boltman. Read all the way through it because I got smarter as I went along and thus, corrected some of my incorrect assumptions I made at the beginning. http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/71514-RE-bedding-Front-Cabin-Windshield

I found a leak in my port Salon window. I cleaned out the gasket that is around the trim molding, taped off the area and sealed. Problem solved. The trim also has a better finished look. It the leak comes back, I am going to remove the gasket and clean out the whole area and rebuild as discussed in the thread linked above. Good luck Boltman, I hope it is not a major project.

I don't really know where it's coming from but it's going to have to wait until she's tucked in for the winter in the heated garage for sure , until then it's towel on the dash to soak it up . I am going to investigate this before I hire it out , looks like a complete reseal along the bottom is due.

Ok 480 folks,I have a a real puzzle here, at least I don't recall reading about anyone else having had this issue. Been trying to track down a head/bilge smell around the port stateroom, and, long story short, checked the floor storage today and it was completely full of water. I think it was fresh but it stunk and I sure wasn't going to taste it! Discovered the storage under the floor under the bed was full as well. Took out at least 50-60 gallons between the two. These are supposed to be dry storage but thankfully we have not stored anything in either location, probably why I didn't think to look there initially.
The only thing running through those two areas is the port toilet discharge, but I can't see any leaks coming from there. Plus,if that hose was leaking I would think the vacuum pump would be running regularly, which it isn't. I assume wherever the water came from it leaks into one of these two areas and then leeches into the other via the hole the discharge hose funds through. These two areas seem otherwise to be closed. Off to the possibility of water getting in from any other source. Next test is to flush some food coloring down the port toilet to see if it's coming from there despite my belief that it probably isn't. Any ideas anyone?

sorry to hear. did you check your midline sump. You have a lot of hoses that exit from there and work toward the stern and empty into the exhaust for discharge. Not sure if this could be it, but if you are attempting a color dye, then if the port head is not the issue, you might want to add to sump and see if any hoses are causing issue.

Another member here had the same issue. He attributed it to a leaking porthole and the water running down the inside of the hull. My boat had some salt residue in this same area when we got it. It's bone dry so I'm also thinking someone left the porthole open once.

Has anyone found a wire chase from the bridge to the engine room? I've run a new coax from the bridge to the salon TV before and that was a pain. I'm planning on installing pyrometers this winter.

QT, I had a string in our boat. The starboard side is crowded, but I was able to run a new stereo remote cable down to the starboard hatch next to the sliding door.

Check your water sump in the hallway in the middle of the boat. If the sump fails or the pump switch fails it will flow into the bilge space. Been there... It'll smell if you dont keep up with clean out the oils etc from the kitchen sink...

I found the string in an access panel in the starboard side up on the bridge. I did take out the panel above the stock TV area in the salon. It was the stereo panel above the TV. The cord came down and then went aft to the hatch outside. From there it looks to go down to the bilge. I can send you pics if you PM me a cell number and you can wait 2 weeks til I'm there again.

QT, Your access will be slightly different than Matt's and mine ,being your model change of the location of the TV. What I had to do was fish a line from the underside of the bridge helm to the STBD. AFT cabinet in the salon. Mine being the stereo cabinet. Then fish another line from that location slightly aft and down into the aft lazarrette. It came out just aft of the aft engineroom bulkhead near the STBD. muffler. Connected them and ran 2 pull lines from top to bottom for future use.

No Plan, Sorry I missed you post on the bridge water leak. (Vacation) Thanks for the info on another source of the leak.

Merman, I don't think it's the port Vac-u-flush system. First things first is the mid companionway sump. Mine stopped working once and I noticed it from the bridge indicator red warning light indicating a bilge pump was running. The one located being forward of the fwd. engine-room bulkhead. The pump that is accessed through the 3rd stateroom bunk storage all the way back in the corne,r centerline to the boat. The water that the sump wasn't pumping overboard, worked it's way back to this location when underway. One other thing possibly. Not sure how far forward the common drain (gutter) runs up the port side towards the bow, but your source of water may be from there. Good luck, Let us know what you find.

Zincs Topic... (I also posted this in a different thread related to zincs)

Need your help and advice please.

I finally picked up replacement zincs for my 2001 3196s. Unfortunately I was only able to replace 3 of the required 6 in each engine. My zinc count is different (1x fuel cooler, 2x trans cooler and 3x heat exchanger); I went straight to my local Cat dealer for the parts. Next time I'll go to boatzincs, but since this is my first attempt at changing them, I wanted to go to the official source (and they provided nice printouts of the schematics).

I'm 6'3" and 230 pounds; how in the world has anyone been able to get to the zincs on the outside of each engine and the ones in the heat exchanger that are out of reach? The zincs I was able to reach all needed changing, so I imagine the ones that are out of reach REALLY need changing. I can lay on the bow thruster batteries that are in front of each engine, but there are electrical connections and wiring that I want to avoid; but I have no clue how to get to the ones next to the fuel tanks.

Any tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated.

Well this is where 6'3" is going to hurt. I'm 5'11" at 205 and it's not fun BUT doable. First off there are locations for 7 zincs but only 5 are used per engine, if you have dripless shafts as I'm sure you do. 3 in the heat exchanger. ( I remove the STBD oil filter to gain access in front of the engine) 1 in the fuel cooler. (I remove the PORT rubber exhaust coupler from between the elbow and the fiberglass tube to muffler) The fuel cooler zinc goes before the tube bundle, NOT on the impeller side, in case it comes loose or breaks off and takes out the rubber impeller. 1 in the tranny cooler ( I remove the shift cable to the STBD tranny to gain access, It's the hardest one to reach) On my engines the aft zinc hole is used to feed the dripless shafts. If yours is different, then it would be 2 zincs there. BTW if your impellers have not been done recently, Now is a good time to do them since you have the exhaust apart anyways. ALSO DONT forget the zinc in the generator. Mine has 1 easily accessible on its heat exchanger.

I have the original Raytheon electronics onboard and my autopilot is acting up. It makes violent turns without reason while locked on to a heading. The technician who I am working with has told me to locate the compass unit on the boat so that he can help me troubleshoot it over the phone. Does anyone know where this was placed on your boat? He said it looks like a 2.5" bowler hat, should be approximately at the water line and center line of the boat and mounted to a vertical surface, but away from ferrous metals (so NOT near the engine room/engine blocks).

Scott, I'm going down to the boat some time tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I saw it in my STBD Cockpit compartment by the slider. I will double check tomorrow.
