Post Your Top Speed

Old Post I know.

But

I had a newly cleaned bum, flat water and a good clear stretch. So tabs fully up.trim the legs out..........could only get 3800RPM, I have always been down on revs, have never investigated why...36Kn...even. Thats on a 20 year old 330DA................I dont really think I need to find the other 900 or so Revs!

The day I bought my 38 (back in April) clean bottom, small amount of coral on the props - 29 knot average (GPS) in both directions offshore (Indian Ocean) with small chop. Half tank of fuel and water, 2 people on board. Running around 4650 rpm. I was using some tab and may have gone a smidge faster without any tab

Think I'll jump on this old thread--48 MPH @ 4900 RPM. Smooth lake with wife and 3 kids, 1/4 tank of fuel.

Sea Ray, 53 MPH 4800 RPM 21" vengeance. 51 MPH 4950 RPM 19" vengeance. 4.3 mpi

Whaler 41 MPH 13x19" Solas 5500 RPM 75ELPTO

typically about 32mph but have hit 34 or 35 (GPS) at about 3800rpm. tune up parts on order but according to SR the top speed on my boat should be about 32mph

Ian - did you mean to write 36 NM (nautical), or 36 km - 36 NM or 50 mph/67kmph seems pretty good at 3800 rpm.

My most recent top speed run was 32 mph at 4500 rpm. I think i could have gotten another 2 mph or more from trimming out, but i ran out of river since I was on my way in when I decided to punch it.

I hit 78 mph on route 80 with tabs up, leg up, boat strapped down. Does it matter if it was on the trailer at the time? In the wet, 34 mph is as hard as I ever push the old girl. She's getting up there in age and doesn't take kindly to a beating.

36knots 36 nmph. And yes I'm pretty happy, hence not going to go looking for the extra 900 rpm that probably should be there.

36NMh in a 20year old, 10,000lb boat, I'm happy with that.

I did NOT look at the fuel burn, purposefully.
However sitting at 18-22Nmh, she was sipping 35-40L around 10USGPH per side, again fairly happy

First ride out in my new to me 185 sport 3.0L I got her to 38mph (gps) @ 4500rpm. That was with my wife, two small kids and full tank of fuel. Seemed to like cruising at around 30mph. I was worried about the little 3.0L in this boat but it seems to work pretty good. Would like to have more power of course but not disappointed.

IanBat, be careful about being down on WOT RPM. If it is due due improper propellers, you can definitely burn up the motors.

Yeah,
Im aware of that, its propped correctly. In mine, it is more of a case of a linkage issue, but with the way it hole shots, planes and top end speed, I have not needed the extra 900RPM or so, I rarely go over 2800RPM with it, as there is no need.

I have heard this, but how could a lower WOT cause engine damage?

thanks

If the engine can't reach full WOT is a sign that the props are placing too much load on the engines trying to spin them, as such the engines are working too hard......over propped, props too big

Likewise if the engines hit WOT too easily and quickly and top speed is down, then boat is under propped, props to small

34.8 knots with full fuel, water and gear. I talked to the yard that did the repower today, they think we can get a couple of more knots out of her.
