We have six boats headed to Door County this weekend. This will be final trip as the boat is going up for sale upon our return. They broke ground on our new house in Floida this week. The plan is to winter in Florida and spend the summer and fall (have to do Buckeye football games) in the Detroit area as 4 of 5 of our children are there. We need to move on and do more traveling; never been to Europe for example. Maybe we will get a smaller SeaRay for the Detroit River. I hope I can do the sale of the boat; I found the sale of our house of 25 years was much easier than my garden tractor. Swept Away is my identity, not sure how giving it up it is going to work!

Have you ever been to those marinas? Need any recommendations? Which marina in Sturgeon Bay?

We hope you have a great trip Doug - I sincerely wish we could have run with, but as I anticipated, the transaction I am working through will be closing the first week of August. Hope to see you this Saturday before you depart.

Have been to all but Sister Bay and Escanaba a couple of times. We are trying Centerpoint this time, have done Habor Club and Quarter Deck a few time before. Hopefully closer to town works.

So what is the clearance on the old bridge? Will probably have to wait anyway with the bridge boats we are traveling with. Yes, recommendations would be great!

Sister Bay is great. Walk south and have dinner @ Mission Grill. Pricey but great food. Al Johnsons is famous for the goats on the roof, but we only eat breakfast there.

Sturgeon Bay has a pizza joint called Sonny's now at the Harbor Club Marina. A very "happening" place. Centerpointe is nice and quiet. You are going to walk anywhere. The bridge is low, but will open on request. I think 14' is clearance. I can make it, but not b ridge boats.

Escanaba is quite a walk anywhere. Nothing close for food, shopping etc.

Some pictures from the trip. FullSizeRender.jpgIMG_1405.jpgIMG_1409.jpgIMG_1412.jpgIMG_1415.jpgIMG_1424.jpgIMG_1437.jpgIMG_1441.jpgIMG_1448.jpgIMG_1450.jpg

The boat was just posted on the brokerage web site today. Sad day for me. I think I will leave work now and go wash the boat. Five more days until I retire for second time!

Brutus, thanks for sharing those photos. That stretch of Lake MI is one I've never visited and probably never will, but after looking at the pics it looks like I should try to make it there.

We cruised across the lake to visit Door County a few years back and enjoyed the area very much. It's like two separate worlds. Green Bay side is touristy and boater friendly. Lake Michigan side is a bit rugged and very scenic. We slipped in Sturgeon Bay and rented a car. Toured the Green Bay shore one day and the Lake Michigan shore another. Definitely worth the trip for anyone in the Great Lakes.

Agreed...very nice photos.
