Official 330 Express Cruiser / 340 Amberjack 1997-2003 Thread

I've always thought it would be nice to have diesels, but with my 8.1's 3600RPM achieves 30MPH and 4500 WOT hits 38.5 MPH. Cruise speed nets about .8 mpg. I would expect the diesels to produce higher cruise speeds and lower fuel consumption. Until you talk to another 340 Diesel owner you won't know. There was a member here from Ohio that had one, he ended up moving to a larger vessel (non Sea Ray if memory serves) but think he's still on CSR. Hopefully he sees this post!

Try finding a member with a 400 express Cruiser with diesels. Although the motors may be bigger and the boats a little heavier u can still compare your numbers. If he has the same engines in a larger boat and producing better numbers then u then u definetly know there's something wrong. But my head is telling me you should be seeing about 30 mph at 80 percent load burning roughly 27 gph. Now that's just my thoughts with little deisel knowledge.

thanks guys, I am also going to use a hand tach on the balancers to see if I am making the proper rpms. If it is off then I will work on the wheels

We have the thru hull exhaust and the fumes have been bad in the cockpit while at cruise. Anyone else experience this and is there a solution?

I have an in home Co battery powered detector as well as factory installed. They have gone off numerous times in the cabin. I found that keeping the cockpit door closed and windshield vent open while underway very helpful. I held the detector with a digital readout at the helm while on a long trip and it always reads a small amount but with door closed and vent open it reads 0

+1 on the vent window no smell at all when opened

Lot of factors go into the station wagon effect. Speed, wind, amount of canvas up. I've always carried a detector on the helm that has a numerical readout. The 370EC was worse than the 330. It's interesting to watch tho and a real eye opener to a lot of passengers. The center vent window does not always take care of the elevated levels.

This is true about the vent not being enough. I have u zippers in the eisenglass and I do remember a couple times were I had to open all 3 panels to clear out the co. Had a heavy trail wind.

this year when i launched the boat it ran in slip for 15 min the co2 In the cabin went off there was a light breeze (5kt) to the back of the boat and it must have filled the cabin .I have 2 co2 detectors in the cabin and one at the helm they have never gone off while underway at cruise speed ive been offshore with a 30kt following wind when i troll and vise versa.highest reading I had in the cabin has been 70ppm it takes almost 300ppm to trigger them. the exhaust ports are on the turn of the hull which I think Is a good design though I wish I had the under water exhaust sys

Yea underwater would be nice. The only thing I hate about my boat is how loud it while cruising.

just referring to idylmonments comment on "fumes"

I wonder if we can convert it . I did see a wackey attachment to the exhaust ports to join them in the middle of the transom under the swim platform and below the water line to make an underwater exhaust

Not that I would ever bother but I would be interested in seeing that

That's exactly my concern Xplcitlinck, most people I know with 7.4's have no trouble. The boat is lift kept, bottom and wheels are clean. I felt it should have stretched its legs a little better. But I have never been able to chat with another diesel 330ec or 340aj owner.
I own a 370ec with 6.7 Cummins 480hp. I can cruise at 35 mph at 3000 rpms at 1mpg. I can hit the Rev limiters at 40 mph. I prefer 2600 rpms which gives me 30mph and 1.06 mpg at a 61% engine load.

Now that's just not fair at allllll!!!
