310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

Hi all, I get "no signal" from the depth sounder in my Raymarine C80. Some questions,
- The boat is still on land and i suppose that mean i should get no value, but "no signal" tells me something wrong? The depth sounder did not give any value when the boat was in the water last year.
- Where is the DSM300 unit located in the boat?
- Is it a common fault that the transducer fails or should i try to find the error somewhere else?
- Are there any connectors on the harness between the transducer and the dsm300 or is it the same cable all the way?
- The vesselview does not show any depth value, does it use the same transducer/harness?

The boat is a 2009 330 Sundancer(310 in the US) with twin 377 Axius sterndrives.

regards
Johan

Coffee maker parts can be ordered from Sears. Same make as Kenmore. Ordered replacement carafe last year

@prochaska do you have a part # for the coffee carafe?

Heysan Johan,

First - the transducers are not really working on land - so it might be nothing - or it might be something. So which kind of transducer do you have? (Picture is fine) - is it through hull - or in hull (sits in a tank inside the boat with no hole through)

The DSM300's had issues if they was made in Mexico - RM has replaced most of them with better versions made in Hungary. Placement - hmm either close to your MFD - maybe in the side cable run where you side speaker are at the helm. But SR puts things the funniest of places. It is a rather big GRAY box - so should not be hard to locate. If yours are are a "Made in Mexico" version - contact RM and convince them to send you a replacement. The latests replacements I have heard about - got the brand new CP370 free of charge. But you have to stamp your feet to get it!

VesselView depth USUALLY comes from SmartCraft (engine system) mounted depth finder. You will usually find that transducer in the bilge - just in front of the engines and just ahead of the bilge pumps. But that should not work well on land either. But they might have saved that when they put in the RM transducer.

But remember to only run depth finder / transducers for limited time on land. But when you know where they are you can run them for a short while and see if you can feel or hear them tick. Big transducers is very easy to hear tick - smaller ones not so much. But put a finger on and you might be able to feel the pulses.

Thank you Kasper,
Interesting information about the DSM. I'll try to locate it and see if it is a Mexican version.

About the trasducers i have only got one in the boat. it is a through hull model and it is located in bilge in front of the bilge pumps. It looks like a RM unit(P319).

/Johan

Anyone have davits on there 05-09' 310 ? What brand /model.. Do you like it? I'm looking for a set for Mercury inflatable 240 which is 7'3" it's light enough To lift no problem it's just there's no where to put it when it's inflated. Weaver or h20 are what I have been looking at... Thanks

When I got my boat last year, the transducer was unplugged from the engine harness...not sure why, it works fine and feeds into my new e7 Raymarine display. Check the simple stuff first as things come unplugged or corroded.

Mercury Dynamic 250 hard bottom hypalon - just fits the platform. It is heavy to pull up with engine (too heavy IMHO) - but without engine no problem. The 310 Swim platform is very high. I have weaver mounts with Dinghy Ramp HD+'s

You can check my write up here of the different Dinghy Mounts: http://www.marine-review.com/2014/03/marine-guides/accessories/dinghy-mounts-dinghy-davits/

On our new-to-us 2009 310, when I attempt to engage Skyhook, the light (on the SH button) flashes slowly for a few seconds and then just stops. Skyhook doesn't engage and nothing else happens. I have no other errors/alarms/warnings that I can find. Boat is stopped/idling in neutral when attempt is made.

Are there other conditions/pre-requisites for using SH that I'm overlooking?

maybe you need a software update? Older Gen I Axius models needed a "white glove" (code name) software update - plus an inspection from Merc technician to enable Skyhook (The technician is there to check - enable electronics - and put more crap warning stickers on it) All 3 is a requirement for "enabling" advanced Axius. (Search here for white glove upgrade)

Apart from that - if your batteries are low - Skyhook will not enable either! :)

I started having a similar problem last weekend. Autopilot and skyhook will not engage. Axius works fine otherwise. Tried resetting yesterday by turning off both batteries while disconnected from shore power. No change. Batteries are AGMs less than a year old. Any suggestions before I call the dealer (still under extended warrarty)?

Thanks for the info kaz911--I knew you had gone through some of this w/ your 310 and was hoping you might chime in.

I am aware of the "white glove" update for Gen I Axius...and I "believe" that it has been performed by the previous owner based on the following:

(a) there are "warning stickers" regarding SH on the helm
(b) there are new group 31 Optimas installed (4)
(c) there was a Skyhook-specific informational DVD included in the docs provided (mostly what-not-to-do when using the feature)

Is there a way I can actually confirm the white glove update has been performed before involving a Merc tech? Is there a minimum software version that would indicate it?

I think if you have the old vesselview -it needs to show software version 4.0.60 (or something like that) :) then you have White Glove. You should also have a warning sticker at the stern by the seat about not being in the water etc... (that is also part of the certification)

Ok, thanks--I don't recall seeing a sticker at the stern so perhaps the "white glove" update wasn't done after all. I'll look to confirm the software version next time I'm at the boat. Thanks again for the help/insight!

@kaz911 are you happy with the weaver and dinghy ramp HD? Would you buy that again ? Thanks for the reply

Also why go with dinghy ramp vs h20 Hurley ? Just wondering.

I'm a cheapskate :) Got the DinghyRamp HD+ 2nd hand for $600 vs the $1300'ish for the H2O. Plus the Dinghy Ramp uses Weaver mounts which are cheap ($99 for a set) - so I put an extra set on my pontoon - so when I don't need the dinghy - I can leave it at the pontoon :) The Hurley have an adaptor for Weaver mounts - so if I want to change it is not a big issue.

The only thing I find to be a little annoying is the SS parts on the DinghyRamp does not seem to be super quality. So I might pickup a H2O at some point to check if the fittings are better quality. (SS 316 is good - but best is if it is treated as well - I don't remember the term but seems like the DinghyRamps are not as they do show signs of rust)

Remembering back - on my boat the PO had the "hardware" done - but had waited to get a Merc Tech out to "stamp it" with stickers - and before that it would not work.
