Just got a email trying to sell me a new boat.

$52,995*
220 SUNDECK (4.5L)

Who in their right mind would pay $53k for a 22ft boat ??.:wow:

I'll buy used and be alot more happier getting a bigger boat for less $$$. :smt001

I agree, prices of new boats has gotten ridiculous for some time now. I was at the Long Island Boat Show and saw a 260DA selling for over $100k!! I would take my 1989 280DA that I bought used for $28,500 (2004) any day.

My 2005 280 would be today's 310. I think that boat lists for $284,000. No fricking way I'd spend that on a 28' boat.

It's not just SeaRay. We have been looking at single engine center console bay boats in the 22-24ft range and have been pretty shocked with current pricing.

You'd think good condition used boats would be flying off the lot. I guess the need to have a "new" boat is big. That and banks won't loan on older boats. Valuation is just wrong these days.

Monroe Boater, Look north for the good deals, You'd be a fool buying in your area, its the boating capital of all the states.

Be thankful there is a steady supply of people willing to pay new boat prices so we can buy them used at depreciated prices later.

Look at Key West. Great boat for the money and good build quality. We have a 219FS and it is a great boat. Yes the bay boats can get into stupid money. Look at the Yellowfin 25' about 100K

Prices of new boats are crazy everywhere... If I lived in the USA I would just wait for the dollar to go up a little bit more and I would buy from Europe... prices of used boats have really fallen down to the ground!

Just tell them you sleep in a culvert under cardboard covers and maybe they'll take you off the list.

that's not much less than what i paid for my 'old' 340.....and i would MUCH prefer to have my boat over some of the newer cruisers i have seen....

so it looks like they want us to pay a LOT more money for a less desireable boat.....that makes me want to scratch my head and go Ummmmmm.....:smt017......

I'm thinking someone has already bought my new boat and taking good care of it on some nice freshwater lake somewhere.

:smt038 Our local boat broker says that due to the down economy ("Deep Recession")and low demand they are making fewer new boats across the board. He predicts this will eventually raise the value of good quality used boats. Of course he does SELL used boats... Look at new equivalents to the 380DA! 370 Sundancer? Freaking beautiful boat! I am 55 years old, and it would take cashing in our boat, our house, and pretty much everything we own to upgrade to a 2015 Model. I can not tell you if Sea Ray has "Gone stupid", but I can confirm the whole (price vs value) scale is tilted horribly. We moved to the "dark side" October 2013. Sold our Sailboat for about $20K less than I felt it was worth, and got our Sea Ray 380DA at a price I am confident disappointed her previous owner. I am fortunate to have spent 16 years as a GM Line Mechanic, and am handy enough that we can buy used boats and play a game that is somewhat above our pay grade. Silicon Valley is full of code writers, and programmers, that would not know the difference between a combination wrench, and a gear puller. However, they can buy a new 510 Sundancer with their year-end bonus.
Jennifer and I went house hunting a few years ago. Looking to "down size", loose the big yard, and some of the maintenance. It was staggering. We found we could sell our 3-bedroom/2-bath home on 1/3 acre (with a creek in the back yard) move to a two bedroom/1-Bath Condo with one covered parking space and it would have only cost us around $100/month to 'down size'. Screw that! Price vs Value may be skewed, but we can not afford to be that stupid.

Sea Ray is pricing themselves out of the market.

Who on here or anywheres has $53k to $300k to pizz away on a boat ?

I'm not seeing it on CSR.

I had this discussion on another site. It just seems to me that we, as a civilization, like this cycle of excess and collapse. There is no moderation....

Sea Ray hasn't gone stupid. Take a look at the prices of every other boat manufacturer. Go to a boat show and you will see prices skyrocketing.

I discussed this with an actual boat manufacturer on the other site that told me, basically, that I didn't know what I was talking about. That their margins were low. But, when I drilled down to it, the focus shifted to they are entitled to make a profit. Sea Ray seems to me to be just another manufacturer riding the wave while they can. Sales seem to be up.

Look, unless I see the numbers, I don't know if these prices are inflated or not. They do seem that way to me. I would have thought manufacturing and material costs would have come down considerably with all the the innovation.

You bring up the housing market. Do you not see the same issue there? Prices climbing back up with salaries staying stagnant? What is real interesting to me is that banks are sitting on a huge amount of inventory that normally would be foreclosures. But, they are trying to slow the tap to give the appearance things are good. Where are the stats of people not paying their mortgages for years but not being foreclosed on.

It's the strangest thing to see an economy running like everyone is dancing at a party and no one seeing that the building is on fire.

What happens when we start to look at the National Debt? Are we just going to disregard it and print money?

As a network engineer and code writer I will admit I had to look up combination wrench. I know what a gear puller is and where I'm from combination wrenches are just called end wrenches. I guess I'm not working for the right guy as my year end bonuses are nowhere close. But hey I have less stress now so I'm good. Like others have said. Let them keep buying. That way my second boat can slowly make its way to me.

Why is Bayturd putting out the Element at $14,817. :wow:

Sea Ray & Bayturd are owned by the same company.

Don't give me that crap Sea Ray is built better with fit and finish workmanship.
