Ok, so my wife and I have been researching and wanting to do a live aboard for some time now....we are not old (50 year old), or retired...but its just one of those things we always wanted to try...kinda a bucket list type of thing.

Who is doing it, what boat are you doing it in, where are you in the country and what do you think

please let me know

thanks

I lived on my 26' Four Winns for awhile (few months) at the Jersey Shore. Even with A/C, I had a hard time with the humidity, maybe that's just me, though. I loved being on the water 24/7, but it started to wear on me after some time. I used to consider it a vacation to go out on the boat, but once it was my home, not so much. I would suggest that you move around on it, go from port to port, if possible, for several weeks if you can. I got tired of our marina and my dock neighbors in short order.

We have lived on ours for about 6 yrs. Love it. We have a King size bed, walk in shower in master. Almost full size fridge. Plenty of living area. You need to be comfortable or you will hate it. We have no issues with AC or heat doing the job. We still enjoy when the weekenders show up. In short, don't skimp on size

size does matter. make sure you have a big fridge/freezer. plenty of closet space. lots of counter space. tons of storage. And make sure you pick a good marina, makes all the difference in the world if you like hanging around the marina and the people in it.

Even though size may not matter, what size are your boats and which boat are you guys using for a liveaboard...

No, size matters here. 45', wish I had 75'. If you bought a Sedan Bridge, maybe you could live with a 40ish size. if you're really small and own nothing, you might get away with a 28'

Me and the admiral talk about it quite frequently, although we have plenty of time before we do it and are whittling down of the stuff we have acquired over the years. Our two biggest things are a queen size bed, full size or close to it fridge and full size couch and chair.

We lived aboard for a summer on our 330. We loved it most of the time and did not have problems with space, but we are generally easy going that way (and we get along well). The heat and AC were fine. We hooked up cable at the dock so we had evening entertainment. The summer was great but as fall came on and the days shortened, it became less fun. We needed the cockpit space for hanging out, but when it got dark and cool in the evenings, being belowdecks became confining. It was a fun adventure while we were waiting for a house to be built and I would recommend it at least for a few months.

I think a comfortably sized shower is a must as well.

I love our Sundancer but there's no way I'd live aboard it. I'd have to have a Sedan Bridge so that my wife and I had some personal space. We spent 12 days with another couple on a 50' aft cabin boat and was starting to feel the pinch at the end of the trip.

I live on the boat most off days. Having a boat with windows (ie sedan/flybridge) is very important. I have no issues dampness either. Now that the Directv is installed its just like being at the house only much better. If I was going full time for an extended time something like a 42/44SD would be a good option.

We moved onto our trawler about a month ago and love it. It is a big big live style change. I have a shed on my dock which we can store some things and have a big refer, washer and dryer. Again, big big life style change. You can read my blog for more....
