220 DA thread

I was thinking of the extended platform from them but the cost of over $ 2000 stopped me.

Well that's a bummer! I dock on Lake Cumberland and you pay for the covered slip by it's size not the boats.

Hi Chymer, I have a 1990 220 da. I was able to remove one of the panels in the aft cabin. It was a little tricky, as it's a tight fit. Remove all the screws on the panel and use something to hook under the bottom of the panel and pull towards you. I used the hook on the end of a bungee cord to hook under mine. Hope this helps.

Question for my fellow 220 owners. I've got the camper canvas setup which is great and all but do not have a summertime canvas which covers the aft area of the boat. I had a local canvas give me an estimate for adding zippers to the canvas side so the I still use the top but the price seems a bit high to me. From the prices I've seen online it seems that I could purchase a brand new top for less than what they've quoted me. Has anyone purchased a new or replacement bimini top setup that works well for our boats?

My previous 220 I was given a quote for a new convertible top, side isinglass, the rear bimini, 2 sides and a rear panel with isinglass and screen for $5500. That was the lowest!

We have never been able to find any company that sells any canvas for the 220DA. Only option is custom made or repairs. Both being costly. Our tops are in good shape but a couple bad zippers. Zippers are expensive.

I got a quote of just under $500 to have zippers installed on the three sides of the camper enclosure. While not a bad price I'm still considering just purchasing a universal top from Overton's or West marine. If I go with the later option, I'm still a bit uncertain which of the three existing base mounts that the new frame would use. I'm thinking the forward pair of mounts that the existing rear frame uses would be sufficient as they are about as close to a midpoint between the helm and rear bench. Of course if I went the new route it would probably mean I can't use the existing top which covers the helm area but that's ok with me.

I would go with spending the $500.00, if the existing canvas is in good shape. I had a camper enclosure installed on my 220 and it set me back about $2200.00. That does not include the bimini cockpit cover, which I already had. It did include installing a new SS frame for the aft portion of the enclosure.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I'm going to get another quote from the shop where I'm having my Spring tuneup/service done next month.

On a related note, it's almost time to un-winterize! :) Bought some new shoes for the trailer yesterday so that's one to-do to check off my list.

Thanks "Rob" for your posting about the panel removal in the aft cabin. We have made the purchase of the swim platform from "swimplatform.com" and have received the shipment up here in Ontario. I think it's about damn time for this snow to melt away so we can remove the shrink wrap and work on installing the platform and new stereo system. We would like to be able to post some pics when the time is right,, although have never done that before and would appreciate some instructions on this. CC350 i see you have a platform on your boat and would very much like to chat with you . My email is chymer@csolve.net . Running heavier wiring for the new stereo system still poses some questions about access routes. thanks everyone.. :)

Hello,

I am not new to Sea Rays. I am new to 220DA's. We lost our 1989 230 CC due to a fire in our barn on Superbowl Sunday. So we are rebuilding and replacing the boat. I have looked at one of these 220DA's a 1991 with a 5.7L alpha one. I passed as there was some sketchiness about the boat. Also the windows had leaked heavily.

So I am going to look at a second one this weekend a 1989 with 5.7L alpha one. The owner reports that the windows have leaked in the past. He was able to clean the staining on the inside from this. He also stated that the windows have been sealed and no longer leak.

So from the experts what else do I need to look for on this boat?

Thanks

Might be selling my 1990 220 DA. Very good condition 740 hrs 5.7
We are looking at a 290 DA.

I run a 15x17 SS, boat tops at 34mph GPS. 4200 rpm, best GPH is running 24mph at 3300 rpms. Takes 9-10 secs to plane. But has 750 hrs. on it's 5.7 so it's getting tired a little. Still runs great and no smoke. Doing a compression test this spring to see how well she's doing. Spring is also bringing a 14.5x19 prop to try, this is the recommended prop from SR.

cc350, have you had a chance to test out the 14.5x19?

Has anyone had any experience in removing the port and starboard panels around the aft speakers on the 89' 220da? I have read a thread from a few years ago, but just looking for anyone that had success in this project. Thanks everyone.

hi everyone,, looking for some feedback on possible locations for one 10" subwhoofer on a 1989 sea ray 220 DA . We are installing the stereo system soon and would like to hear from anyone that has a subwhoofer in that style of boat, looking to hear how the quality is eg. vibration, clarity etc. Thanks Everyone........

Has anyone tried replacing the existing stock ladder with a newer 4-stepper? Accessing the ladder bolts on the underside seems to be the biggest issue. You'd have to be one hell of contortionist be able to reach those suckers. My hope was that the new ladder would be the same width as the old one and I could reuse the same brackets but no such luck.

I may just try the broom handle technique as described in this thread :) http://clubsearay.com/showthread.ph...on-1995-Searay-185BR?highlight=replace+ladder

I would hope that the backing plate which is mounted on the underside of the decking stays attached.
