Retirement home in the south

Well, I didn't resort to photos to sway them, but if you want to play that game, here ya go...........but honestly, any place where it doesn't snow, you don't have to winterize and you can boat 12 months a year will work.

Now ,now boys' relax.. Bob a very compelling argument in deed we have vacationed in AZ and it is beautiful to say the least. As my wife wouldn't mind it if it was 120* everyday AZ is just too far from our families. they will most likely stay in the Ny area and to travel down the coast is very convenient for all . They can be in FLA in under 3 hours , as far as taxes FLA does not tax my pension although I would consider the Carolina's as I've heard, does not tax the first 20,000 of my pension so it's manageable.

BOATING: as I've mentioned I'm sure my boating will change in the next 4-6 yrs when we leave NY, I'm assuming a CC or walk around will be our next boat to explore restaurants, sandbars, etc. so unless Sea Ray produces one soon I'm guessing it won't be a. SeaRay. Some say buy bigger and head for Key west, or the Bahamas. Who knows????

im looking to get the best bang for my buck, I want beautiful location, warm temps, and 10 months of boating . These are all must haves. I really don't want to travel 1 hour to the boat if its in the back of a house, or 10 miles from a community great.

we are fairly young and barely qualify for a 55 and older community but a newer community with a lot to offer is very attractive to us.

as usual folks thank you and keep the ideas coming you all live in beautiful places so post away ...

Come on down and visit, Joe. Once you see some of this area you won't have to debate anymore. You can just focus on your countdown to moving!! :)

Agreed. I moved here to Florida at age 17 to attend University of Tampa. After graduation, I briefly went back to Long Island and said to myself "What the hell am I doing here" so I moved back 5 months later and I feel like I have been on vacation ever since. Boating year round, with annual boat trips to the Keys, the Abacos, Bimini, South Florida, etc. There is simply no better place to live.

The Arizona pictures of the mud shoreline are nice, but would you not rather want water access like this?

No brainer!! I'll gladly take you boating on the east coast for a boat ride on the west coast! We went to Tampa to look at a boat a while ago and it was a nice, easy drive.

When I was in the USAF stationed NC they charged property tax on vehicles. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the same on boats. NC left a bad taste in my mouth for more reasons that I will list here. If I were to die there I would hope somebody would do me the favor and drag my body to another state to rot. I would go to Florida myself.

I'm still pretty far from it but I'm subscribing to the thread and will follow your research. I was thinking Charleston, but Florida might be the place. Thanks guys for all the info

I plan to retire in Florida in about five years so I spent the last several years visiting parts of SW FL looking for my spot. I did alot of research and scoping out areas via the internet but found that the places I thought I would like just didn't appeal to me when I visited in person. We visited Punta Gorda and although it's farther from the gulf then I wanted to be we just fell in love with the town. When we started driving around looking at houses we realized pretty quickly that the look and feel of the neighborhood was exactly what we wanted so we on 12/20/13 we settled on a waterfront home there. We spent all of last week down there buying furniture and stuff to get the place all set up but now I'm home, back at work, freezing cold and windy outside. Can't wait to get the hell out of here! Mark

Congrats Mark!! I can only imagine.

Joe,
My friend Robert (Shadow9999 on CSR) has a second home in Punta Gorda isles. He has given me some great insight in the past to why it's such a great place to live. He runs his boat down there from Jersey every year. Let me know if you need more info on that area & I'll put you in touch with him.

If I am available in April when you are here, I am happy to take you on a boat ride around Tampa Bay and show you the area. By the way, starting this Friday highs will be in the 80's for a week. I will have the boat out this weekend for sure!

We took a run down to look at the coastal Carolina area Started in Charleston and headed north to about Wilmington.
Favorites to date were ocean isle beach and north myrtle beach areas.

Hmmm...I notice you didn't post the pic with the alligator swimming in the bay 100' from your boat.

No Tim, I didn't .

That is sort of our joke on Yankees…….pretty soon after arriving, they'll figure out that we share our pristine waters with alligators all by themselves.
