What batteries are required for my 1994 searay 240 overnighter signature. 7.4 merc

Should be fine with Group 27 Marine Deep Cycle batteries. Do you have a refrigerator or any other high consumption acessories on board?

Refrigerator and little accesories

In that case you may want to consider Group 31 Batteries for more run time. 27s will work just fine though. I assuming you are wired for two batteries. Just make sure you alternate which battery you use when on the hook. Personally I am a fan of AGM batteries. One of the best batteries I ever made. Maintenance Free.

Not to sound stupid but what are group 31 batteries. Im new to boating.

Really battery dimensions and amp hours. Group 27 is probably the more basic (standard) size for recreational boats. Some people including myself have gone with G31 for better performance but that comes at an elevated price. There are also people using other kinds of batteries. I was trying to keep it as simple as possible for you by recommending G27 batteries, AGM if you can swing them.

This link will give you some idea on the dimensions although I do not endorse the batteries being sold by them. Most people on this site use Sears DieHard Platinum, Optima or Lifeline for AGM batteries.
