Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

NO problem for us with 10 people at a time......we also have the Bennett trim tab adjusters which do help out with a load....

We never used our (EMERGENCY START ROCKER SWITCH) If either port or starboard engine does not start
whats the procedure with the ESRS? How does it start the boat??

Just hold it down while you crank either engine. It simply temporarily jumpers the port and starboard batteries together so you have the max amount of juice available to the starter.

Thanks very much....

Hello! Was out with the boat on Saturday and it was great. I wanted to again pose the RPM question. What is a safe RPM to be running at with the vdrives? I have found that 3200 RPM gets me about 18 MPH. If I really want to motor as I did this weekend, to get about 27/28 MPH, I was pushing 4400 RPM. Is that safe? There was some white smoke coming from the exhaust but it seem out of the ordinary. I know that every boat is different so I wanted to get an idea of what others have found.

Thanks.
Craig

Hi Craig,

IF i run at 3300 TO 3400 rpm, i'm at 24mph to 25mph according to my C90W ray marine GPS with those rpm numbers.
Every time i go out i open it up to 4500 plus rpm full throttle for about 20-30 seconds while keeping my eyes on the gauges,
My Merc -Cruiser tech suggested i do that each time.....My gauges like yours i imagine are getting old with salt air etc,
My port RPM jumps ahead of my Starboard RPM gauge at open throttle by 500 rpms...but at 3300 rpms there both in sync.

i may replace all the gauges next year.... we'll see.... My sync gauge is very accurate.

Hello all,

I have joined the forum to specifically get some information on the 310 Sundancer. I am shopping for a new boat and have looked at some others, but I recently saw a 2000 310 with 5.7 Horizons. I really fell in love with the boat, but have some questions about the fuel consumption and llifespan of those engines. They have about 700 hours on them, and due to the fresh water cooling, I would imagine that there should be some good life left, but I would like some advice there.

Also, my feelings on fuel consumption would be to expect about 20 GPH at cruise on the Horizons, however is this optimistic for a boat this weight? Are those engines underpowered? Should I be looking for the big blocks?

Also, this boat may need a generator replacement. Westerbeke... what is you guys experiences with cost of rebuild?

I have been perusing this thread for a little while now and could use any advice in shopping for one of these.

Thanks in advance!

With 700 hrs plenty of life left, my fuel consumption is very good, underpowered?? no way....best boat in the world to us

Thanks for the response! Another question: The boat currently has slant back canvas and I would want to change it to a full camper. I need another bow setup and canvas... any idea what that would run me?

We did our '98 310 from the angle back to camper back. All custom bars. New canvas on all pieces, and strata replacements. Screens. It was just under $7k

$6500 for us.......

When you say "all pieces", do you mean all the canvas or just the camper from the arch back? 7K is more than I was hoping to spend, as the rest is in pretty good shape.

The port gauge is definitely in need of replacement. It started bouncing around last year and then at some point the hour meter reset. Good thing I have a log book so I can calculate the hours. The sync gauge is accurate though so I go by that.

Do you really think that the both gauges could be off so that the RPM's don't match either gauge at all?

What is your take on the white smoke exhaust? Normal?

The glass in the front wasn't great, and the canvas was looking pretty bad. It was about 8 years old. We redid all the canvas and glass.

If the rest is in good shape, than your mileage might vary. Get some local canvas shops to quote it.

Ours cost about $4000. We got pictures from billnpat and they were great. We gave the pictures to our canvas guy and he used it as a guide. We are very happy with the canvas. If you are going to do it, I'd be happy to send you pictures of what we did.

I made some calls today and got the same result. It is 4K for the back only.

Im sure its the port gauge only.....the starboard gauge is very steady with no bouncing....

No white SMOKE.....Thats vapor..in my case anyway......i thought the same when i first got this boat, mechanic says its common vapor mist....
