205 Sport thread?

Congrats on all the finds. You have one of the most loaded 2006 205's I've seen. Thanks for sharing your experience with the tower, I've been considering one and also have to deal with a 7' door - 6'10" to be precise with the weather strip in place.

How much height above the windshield does the folded tower add?

Are you able to use your bimimi with the tower?

Did the $1,000 include installation - if so, that was a h%ll of a deal.

Odd tip - your bimimi will fit folded under your sunpad, that's what the notches in the engine compartment walls are for. It was a two year only feature in 2006 and 2007, love it when on the road.

Hi Dave. When I looked into buying the tower, I did not believe it would fit in my 7' door. My windshield was coming really close to my header as it was. One dealer told me that he thought the tower, when folded BACK, stuck up over 1 foot above the glass. Not true. What I did was take a 2x6, put a semicircle support notch in one end, and I use it as a storage stand. I simply remove the rear pegs from both sides of the tower, loosen the pegs above these to allow the lower sections to fold, and lay the tower down on the storage stand. Takes all of 60 seconds, and into the garage it goes. I do have to remove a bench cushion to stand the support.

I just went out to measure my door height for you: the header height is 7'. my tower as it sits on my support is 1" below the header. NOW, if I would have made my "storage stand" lower, I could fold my tower down another four inches or so. I gotta believe yours would fit in your garage, based on what I can do.

My $1,000 price for the tower did not include installation. I could have done it myself with a friend or two, but time is not something I have much of lately.

Thanks for the bimini tip....I didn't know that. I really loved the bimini this summer when it was really hot, plus the little ones could rest in shaded comfort when they got tired. The bimini I have won't fit now, so I am gonna have to figure something out. I just don't have any more money to put into the boat this year. :smt089

I think I get it - the tower as designed does not fold low enough to clear the door. So, you pull the pins from the back supports, loosen a couple more points, and this lets you lower it more - but now needs supports which you have made with 2X6's that extend down to the floor of your bench seat storage area. Great solution.

I would miss the bimimi too, especially in late June and July. But, the sun seemed less intense in late August and early September, so we didn't put it up as often. How hard would it be to just unpin the whole tower and leave it off on some trips out? We have too many toys to take on every trip anyway, and the family votes on what they want me to load up on each trip out.

Also, if you have the canvas covers, did the tower render them useless? Could they be slightly modified by a shop to make them fit again? Could the canvas still be used as is if the tower is pulled off?

The canvas cover for my boat still fits just fine; however, the tower has to stay in the "up" position if the canvas is to be snapped on. No big deal, as the boat came with a cheaper large cover that I am using in the garage to keep dust etc. out.

The stock tower on my '08 folds down forward. If I want it to be below the windshield I have to remove the front canvas so it can go down into the bow.

On another note I found that my boat has a decent hole shot but a top speed of only 45. When I goose the engine throttle a bit more it seems like the engine screams but no additional speed results. Could be that like in earlier discussions in this thread the factory vengeance ss prop is not optimal. I personally prefer a good hole shot and a smooth ride over speed but all 3 would be nice...

I'm still running a 21P Aluminum. It's on the list to replace this winter / spring as my hole shot and WOT are horrible.

Just found the site and have spent hours lurking, great info and ideals. Trying to make some decisions on tower speakers with l.e.d.s
and would like to sea some of your boats with speakers on the tower and the bimini open. Lets get this thread going for summer.

Welcome! I'll get some pics posted of my setup. I'm in the process of retrofitting my bimini to work better with my tower and speakers.

What is your budget for tower speakers and amp?

Im looking for something like this for speakers,
http://www.amazon.com/Aerial-Single...861&sr=8-57&keywords=wakeboard+tower+speakers

not sure of the amp yet, can't decide if I should upgrade are add to the existing speakers, only have the factory setup of one on each side. Do you have some suggestions? The only thing thats important is having full use of the bimini.

Does your bimini mount over or under the tower? From the sounds of it yours is like mine and mounts under. I was able to mount up my Kicker KMT6's under the tower and still use the bimini the last two seasons. I had to pull one side of the bimini out of its support but it wasn't that big of a deal because it was once a day to do it.

This season I've upgraded to a pair of Wetsounds Rev 10's and I'm not able to do the same trick. I'm in the process of modifying my bimini to mount on the front of the tower and go over the top of it like the newer model 205's did.

As for speakers and amps the question I would ask is if you want the speakers to be heard near the back of the boat while swimming and floating or do you want to be able to hear them while skiing behind the boat? If it's just for swimming then you can go w/ the ones you linked to or any standard speaker in a pod and be just fine. If you want to hear them while skiing you'll want to bite the bullet and upgrade to a HLCD type of speaker. You can look at Exile, Bullet or Wetsounds for those.

I'll get some pics of my setup posted up for you.

Pics are good, it helps me decide when seeing what someone else has done. Thanks, look forward to seeing you setup.

Can anyone tell me where I can order the pads for the factory installed tower? I would like to replace the front ones due to cracking and being brittle.
Also is there a torque spec for the allen bolts at the feet of the tower?

I've often wondered if there was a torque spec on those bolts too but I've never found the answer. As for the pads I was guessing I could order them from a Marine Max but I just made my own. I grabbed a piece of rubber and placed it under the rear legs. Traced them and cut them out. I then used a punch to make the holes. The front were a little more tricky because I have speaker wire coming down one side and the anchor light wire down the other. For this one I took a piece of cardboard to make the template since I couldn't slide the rubber under the legs. I could have pulled the wires out but I didn't want to go through all of that trouble.

I think I was out like $15 for the whole thing with $10 of that being the punch set I had to buy. If you have two people it's a pretty easy job.

Thanks for the info, I've already purchased the rubber to do it, I just thought I would ask before I installed it.

I've attached some photos of the tower gaskets I made. I've also posted a picture of the tower speakers I currently have installed which are Wetsounds Rev 10's which as the name says is a 10" speaker. I had to adjust my bimini all the way to the bottom of the leg to get it to work. Also with it under the tower I have to remove one leg of the bimini, open it up and then put the support leg back in the bracket. I've purchased all of the items I need to retrofit the bimini above the tower but it will probably be after Memorial Day before I get that project finished. The remaining pictures are the drivers remote I installed, a Wetsounds 420 EQ and the amp rack I installed under the drivers side helm.

Is it the weekend yet??? I'm ready to get back out on the water!

Dude, your boat is bad A$$. The accesories you have added look great. Checked out the speaker system you've installed and I will probably have to wait for something like that. Thanks for the pictures and information on your boat. One question, how plyable and thick are the rubber pads you installed for you tower? I think mine are a little to soft for the the application. Also where did you find them?

Thanks! It's been a fun project now on our fourth Summer. I've pieced the stereo together slowly and almost have it to where I want it. The rubber I used was pretty pliable. I picked it up from a rubber / gasket shop here in town. The piece I used was probably twice as thick as what the factory put on there and I didn't have any problems getting it to fit under the legs. I don't know of a way to show or describe the rubber or I'd give you a better description.

Well I guess it's time to bring this thread back to the top :smt024

I am a happy owner of a 2012 Sea Ray 205 Sport with 5.0 MPI engine and wakeboard tower. I am from the United Arab Emirates and this is where the boat is located currently, however, during the passed year, I have been staying in Ohio/USA doing a healthcare fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. Now that I am approaching the end of my fellowship, I decided to do a bit of boat goodies shopping and can't wait to get back home so I can get these goodies installed and go ride :smt038

Nice.. You'll love the upgraded stereo. I put on a 19P 4blade prop this season and it seems to be getting out of the hole a lot better than seasons past. I'd love to see your install after you get it all finished up.

Hi - just upgraded to an '08 205. Is the stock prop a 21p? Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to splash it yet, but was curious how it pulled skiiers/boarders with either prop.
