OK, guess it is kinda of a rant of sorts but I support Sea Ray and I like to have the matching apparel (mainly hats since their shirts don't fit my frame) I purchased a new hat recently and I know that I have seen it before but it does grind my gears that an "American" company is selling $15 Chinese hats with the Sea Ray Logo that fall apart in no time. Can we not get them made in the states or at least a little better quality? I believe that we should be proud of American engineering and production. Just a simple question as to what can we do to get some of these items back on our soil. I usually go through 3 Sea Ray hats a year because they simply fall apart. Just curious... Okay open floor!:wow:

The way I see it, you have a choice between a $15 made in China hat that falls apart in short time, or a $30 made in America hat that would last a bit longer.

Not making any judgement calls here. Ya pays your money and ya takes your chances.

I buy caps from all over the world as souvenirs because, they are good to use on the boat or working around the yard.
Some are obviously better quality then others..Some are real junk.

Problem is I just checked 10 caps and NONE are made here!
The better ones have big labels in them that say "New York, London, Paris" but the small label says made in Bangladesh!

Are any garments at all made here anymore?
Even the US based company's are outsourcing the production.

Sucks,
Mark.

Until WE demand better, by not buying junk, we will get just what we pay for. Case in point: I have $125ish in a well made Shurhold telescoping handle, multiple brushes, and dock hook, all made in the US. How many of you have that or the el-cheapo imported bursh? I rarely see boaters with this multipurpose fantastic setup. So when the folks that build them lose their jobs another group will say that is awful, how many in the second group bought the el-cheapo?

As for the hats Jason first posted on; there are way more buyers for a cheap hat that is worn once in a while, but mostly hangs in the boat than everyday hat folks. Few are willing to buy a $40 hat. The solution is to find a high quality hat and a shop that will logo it the way you wish.

We're not the only ones that import Chinese products...earlier this year I bought a cap in Cozumel, thinking it was probably made in a Mexican factory, but no....the label says "Hecho en China" (made in China)

Went through this at www.v8buick.com 2 years ago. I drive a '71 Skylark (sunny Summer days only, make sure no seagulls around).
Club logo on shirts made in the US. Members were polled & preferred to pay a few extra $$ for US made product.
Sold out in a heartbeat !! Can't recall if we had hats but I can find out or send someone JW's e-mail.

I'd rather buy Chinese junk than support some of the causes that are on those union hats. (fully embroidered)

+1

I'm with ya, Scott. I feel the same about American cars. I was a die hard GM guy since the day I started liking cars. I love the new Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, Challengers, and Chargers, but I will NEVER buy another union made vehicle for as long as I live. I simply can't justify giving money to people who will give it (in addition to actual support) to a political party that hates everything we stand for and is actively trying to destroy our country. So, it will be Toyotas, Nissans, Hyundais, BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus, etc. for me until the unions support a Tea Party, Republican, or Libertarian candidate for POTUS. That ain't gonna happen.

So, let me get this straight. You’d rather buy a product made in an anti-democratic country such as China, with few human rights, one that competes with the U.S. unfairly, than support an American worker and his family just because you are jealous his union gives him a seat at the table with the management of his employer?

Tritone, I'm another who probably won't own an American brand, union made car. Not so much because of the unions, thought I don't like what they have done to the auto industry and what their politics are doing to the country. I own a BMW and an Infiniti. I buy foreign cars because they seem to be better built, more comfortable to drive, they're quieter and I like the style of most of them better than the style of American iron.

When we travel several times a year I rent cars and often end up with an American car. Those are always current year cars with low miles. Even at that they can't hold a candle to the cars GW and I drive.

BTW, on a somewhat related topic, I think it's hilarious that the unions strongly backed Obamacare back in the days when nobody knew what it stood for and what it would for (or "to") you. Now that Obamacare has become law and we're starting to find out what's in it, the unions are pitching a beatch about it. They're feeling like they were lied to by the messiah. The irony of that does not escape me, but I don't want to turn this thread into a political rant.

Likewise in Australia. The Admiral has a BMW, and I am running 4 Mitsubishi's who pulled out of manufacturing in Australia, years ago now.

I also manufacture in China, oh no throw bricks at me. The decision to go to China was not Financial. I could not get the service here, trying to get a quotation and time fame on electronics was a joke.

We also sell in our range a lot of U.S. Brand products. Note I use the word Brand not manufactured. 15 years ago they had 'Made in Mexico' written on them now 'Made in China'

No.

I thought that what I said was pretty darn clear. I'd rather buy a product made in an anti-democratic country such as China, with few human rights, one that competes with the U.S. unfairly, than support an American worker and his family because they support people that support policies that are harmful to our nation. They are in my back yard, destroying the nation I love, and a way of life that I love from within. That makes draining the union ecosystem of money (particularly mine) a higher priority item than worrying about the Chinese.

Its tough love. When my neighbors quit the groupthink mentality that turns them into lemmings, I will be more than happy to help them become prosperous. Otherwise, they are doomed to the same fate as Detroit. I'm safer if I let them all go broke.

What I thought was pretty clear was you managed to pack an impressive amount of extremism in a short posting. You’re allowed to spew all the extremist anti-Americanism you want on the internet, but you are accountable for the world to see. Perhaps you could explain exactly how unions or whomever you want to demonize wholeheartedly is “destroying our country.” The idea that you would sell our country to foreign interests as a move against American families and companies, simply because you have a politically divergent view, also warrants some follow up. These are the strongest of statements–you need to back them up with hard facts, not just new accusations. Anything less and you can easily be dismissed as just another Faux-News watching nitwit who can’t think for himself.

I wish you did not convert this thread into a political one, but it's here now. Why is it the guys all the way to the right of the political spectrum are the first to stridently inject political views into conversations? And if this is going to have to be a political conversation, let's stick to one topic. Obamacare deserves another thread if it has to be discussed.

GFC, I heard an interesting theory today. They are not bitching to be exempted from ocare, or worried that it will affect them like we know that it will affect the rest of us. They are trying to get barry to change the law so that the unions would be classified as insurance exchanges, which would mean government subsidies to them. Sneaky, eh? Less see... How can we get the rest of the country to go the way of Detroit? Oh yeah... make more financial promises that we can't keep. Yeah... that's the ticket.
