Well we finally had a nice day. No storms, low humidity, and plenty of sun. I got an early start and missed the typical Saturday crowd at Occoquan park. I went out to one of my favorite spots and met my aluminum Jon boat friends. IMG_20130615_131707_921.jpg

As you can see they were trailing me like ugly ducklings. I had to cut one loose to take the picture though.IMG_20130615_131528_866.jpg

After a while we hit the beach down near the train bridge at Leesylvania park where we had a BBQ and enjoyed some shade for a while. There wasn't much beach with the extreme high tide so we didn't get to eat until about 3:30 but it was worth it. As usual I didn't have the time to direct my attention to taking pictures but my friends got a few good ones. I was by myself and pretty much in charge of everything so...

I did take one more snap shot of this jerk plowing through the no wake zone complete with bow riders. He completely ignored the warnings from other boaters both verbally and over channel 16 which I doubt he was monitoring.IMG_20130609_152030_334.jpg

I could have taken pictures of all kinds of violations including a bow rider like mine with 2 kids sitting on the platform with their feet in the water while underway. I said something to their dad and in true to his class he responded with the middle finger. Sorry but its not OK to risk your kids that was, be a parent please.

I also was treated to a visit from VAGIF officers who were kind enough to let me lip the bass I caught before they questioned me. After a moment the senior officer remembered me from years before when he stopped my Mom and I. He remembered she is a retired sherrifs deputy and was kind enough to ask about her. The junior officer didn't rember me but I remembered his voice from when we spoke on the phone lastyear about fishing pots in the channel at the end of the no wake zone. I produced all my documents and the officers seeemed impressed I carry 2 extinguishers and kept one of my 2 throwables up under the helm at arms reach. They didn't waste much time on me and I was back to fishing to end my day, and a great day it was.

What no i tyres of the bass?

Looked like a good day

Blaster,

I'm not surprised about the stupidity on that part of the Occoquan. Last weekend, we were coming back from Madigan's after dark in almost the exact spot of your picture, and a guy was heading toward me with some kind of headlights mounted up high on his boat. I wanted to say something to him, but was trying not to get so close that I couldn't see. He also was going above no wake speed too and sent a nice wake our way.

I like this view because I can see my marina in the background :)

Are the VAGIF guys still based out of Captain John's? Are your fishing pics over in Mattawoman?

Mike

Yes they still are slipped at Captain John's. FCPD moved out though when they got their Donzi, I believe they moved closer to the end of the no wake zone along with PWPD.

I actually was anchored deep in Belmont bay near the mouth of Cains creek? I can't rember the exact name of that cove. I didn't make it over to Mattawoman this trip but there is good fishing over there.

I think I know where you're talking about, I think we've walked back into there before.

We went to Tim's today for Father's Day and my son't 19th birthday. Was worried about storms, but turned out to be a non issue. Tim's was slow, but we were told that upfront, so we didn't sweat it. Tim was actually the one that drove us back to our boat which was unusual.

Yep, FCPD and PWPD boats are slipped right next to one another right across from my slip in Belmont Bay Harbor Marina. We have plenty of empty spaces for the authorities and any other boaters.

Bill,

Thanks for the update. I tend to see both boats by the Belmont Bay gas dock, so figured they were nearby.

Interesting that FCPD isn't slipping within their own county.

Maybe FCPD doesn't like paying personal property tax on their boats either.

Another great Saturday on my Sea Ray. IMG_20130622_135520_047.jpg

I have the best fishing partner in the world.

I also gave her some tips on throwing a cast net. No legal bait was caught but she did net this cool carp.IMG_20130622_125326_859.jpg

Where is that shot of the beach?

Idiot boaters can also be found up river in DC. The bridges are all no wake zones, but there's always some moron who flys through at cruise. Or the people waiting to gas up at James Creek and block the rest of us from getting out or into the marina. We also used to have a guy, I won't say which dock, who used to dock by slamming himself into the finger pier to stop.

Had a great Friday evening on the boat and then a nice afternoon today. It was busy out on the water today.

That's under the train bridge near Leesylvania park. My friends and I refer to it as homeless beach because there were some people squatting there last year.

Today when I was there no fewer than three bass boats flew in under the bridge and into the bay. The sections of the bridge are 15 maybe 20 feet wide. You can't see the other side very well until you pass through. The first guy almost hit a kayac, the second lucked out, the third hit one of the pilings from the old bridge LMAO. Needless to say these were weekend warriors and not tournament fishermen.

I haven't posted any pictures lately so I thought I'd share a few more.

Thanks for sharing the pics. It's always nice to see where other CSR members go to have fun on their boats

Were you out on the Chesapeake Bay for these pictures?

Mike

The Manta ray was caught in little ditch near Indian River Inlet DE. The puffer is from the bay and the other pics are the Potomac.

how's you mess your prop up?

Don't know what it was I hit. I was in 6' of water in the occoquan bay kinda in the direction of time and tide marina. There's lots of junk in the river and I was unlucky enough to find something. I have seen bikes, motorcycles, cars, tires on rims, lots of trash has been dumped in the river over the years.

2013 has been a bad year for the new lower unit I got last year(the old one had peeling paint.) In the spring before the plants came up I got out of the channel and chipped the skeg on a log. Then my brother hit something near the ramp while I was parking the truck. After that he picked up someone's line and twisted it around the torpedo which had to be cut off. Another chunk of skeg gone. Then my most recent hit with the pictured prop. I still have plenty of skeg left, so I'm hoping to hit something else soon.

This has ended a 8 year run with no impacts.
