220 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Hey Surfinjoe.
Thanks for the Welcome!

I live about 45-50 minutes outside of greenville on Lake Keowee. Beautiful Clean Lake. Right Outside of Clemson, SC. Moved here about 1.5 years ago and It is beautiful . Summers can be pretty hot (but with the lake this is OK with me. More reason to get out on the Lake to cruise around). Its been in the 40's and 50's and rainy since the day after I got the boat, but should be up to mid 60's and sunny on Sunday. I know changing the temperature up there just takes time, but I at least wish for you all there some sunlight to help get you through the winter.

beautiful country in that area....my son went to Clemson so we know it pretty well....we took our boat to Lake Jocasse (connects to Lake Keowee for others reading) a couple years ago...the water level was around 70 ft below normal and we still saw water depths close to 300 feet......beautiful clear mountain lakes with beautiful scenery.....we hope to get back down that way this year....

welcome to CSR....

It is May 4th, 35 degrees out and cold. It is at least suppose to be in the mid 60's for average high temp. Can't do anything with my 03- 220 sundeck in this weather so what else is there to do but look at things to add to the boat:smt001. I am looking at adding some sea-dek to my swim platform and walk through area. My boat has the black, silver color. Was wondering if there was anyone who has the sea-dek on there boat now and how do they like it. Also, post some pics on what color you went with.

My other add-on is a amp and a sub for more tunes. The kids are really starting to get into there music with there IPods and might add this as well. Looking at JL Audio for this. Any other suggestions? I know money always comes into it but I have always liked the JL Audio quality.

Thanks

We were in last weekend. Water was a chilly 52 degrees. It didn't bother my black lab, but I got cold just putting my feet in the water. WTF?

I just gave my stereo an upgrade. I went with Polk Audio:

(4) Polk db651's - 6.5" Speakers
(2) Polk db5251's - 5.25" Component
(2) Kenwood KFC-W254MRW 10" subs
(1) Clarion XN 3410 - 90W X 4 AMP
(1) MB Quart NAU 460 - 60W X 4 Amp

I added the 5.25" components just in front of my throttle. It's a huge difference and allows me to actually hear music while underway. The (2) 10" subs are both located in the storage compartment in the Aft lounger. It's not too much bass and makes the system sound like a home stereo.

My system was under $800 and sounds great! I looked at JL audio and a similar system would have been MUCH MORE (double or triple). Two JL audio 10" subs would have ran me about $400 alone! They have 7.7" speakers for $400 a pair! I am sure the JL audio would sound better, but bang for the buck is Polk! I am actually quite impressed with my MB Quart amp thus far. Sounds great and was under $100. No alternator whine, clear sound and good adjustability. If I were to do it over, I would nix the Clarion amp and go with (2) MB Quart amps.

Thanks surfinjoe for sharing what you have. I have not looked into Polk before. I do like the price point you were at as well. That is my problem as well and like the idea of adding those seperates. If you can, take a pic for me if you could and post it. Like to see what it looks like. When I am up and running, I have to turn the existing speakers up so load for me to hear it while I am driving and then I am blowing away the people who are sitting in the front.

I'll try and remember to take some pic's tonight. Trust me, with the 5.25" components, not trouble hearing the tunes :) I actually had to turn them down because they were so much louder than the other speakers! I think they actually look like they should have been there from the factory! You just have to be careful of the placement of the speakers. There is a strip of wood that runs vertical right where I placed my speakers. I had to adjust a bit when I was cutting the hole (I wanted to leave as much of the wood as possible). I think I only trimmed maybe 1/2" or so. It took me a few hours to plan where to cut the holes. I was a bit scared, but it came out great!

My only issue is the speaker on the aft lounger doesn't fill the hole in the vinyl trim (you'll see it in the pic). Doesn't look terrible, but I need something to take up the gap.

Back in action this summer with my 2011 Sea Ray 22 Sundeck. Just got it out of storage had in "summerized" and I have a detail man in Montana that wants to put several coats of "Liquid Glass" on the hull. Any one have experience with this procedure?

It's some sort of special polish/sealer type stuff. I may try some this week if I can locate it at a auto parts store.

My boat seems to sit fairly close to the ground when on the trailer (Road King aluminum). Launching and retrieving is challenging - I occasionally drag the skeg even with the motor in the "trailer" position. So I was looking at the trailer yesterday and noticed something very odd. The back of the bunks are mounted to the lower holes in the brackets, the front of the bunks are mounted to the upper holes, making the bunks (and boat) slope downward toward the stern. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Mike

Does anyone have Bennett trim tabs on their 220SD? If so, what size are they?

Thanks,
Mike

That doesn't sound right Mike. It sounds like an assembly error. I would either lower the front bunks or raise the rear bunks to make it level. That's how my boat is (Shorelander trailer).

Thanks, Tim. I asked Road King - here is there response:

"Trailers are set to keep the boat as low as possible for better launching. The bunks are mounted as seen to allow the boat to drain if left outside. You can adjust the boat however you like...and just adjust the forward bunks tight to the hull."

I'm not sure what I'll end up doing, but it looks like I have some options.
