Shaun,
We made our "Run to the Sun" 5 months ago after living all of lives in the Chicago area. Been boating every weekend since October 20 except for 3 due to coolness or rain. The great thing that you will enjoy is "Should I go out on Saturday or Sunday?"..."oh it's going to be a bit warmer and sunnier on Sunday so that's the ticket!!!." You'll also find that there's not much reason to listen to the weather forecast since there is a 90% chance or better it will be a great day. The cold and the snow didn't really bother me during the Midwestern winters but the lack of sunshine really did. You'll enjoy having mostly sunny days during the winter I bet even more than the lack of cold and snow. My one disappointment so far is we have not be able to meet very many new people at the marina since no one seems to be boating during the winter. Hopefully that will change now that the weather is now in the 70's and 80's. So my advice to you is to choose your marina where you can make a lot of new friends since like us, we knew only one or two couples here before we moved. Enjoy your new like because the Admiral and I certainly are!:smt038

Thanks again to everyone. I will still respond to any questions but this will be my final update for this move. We are settled into the house and start our jobs next week. The last big thing was the boat launch, which happened today. It was a beautiful day for a launch. Along with the things I did yesterday, today a detailer wet sanded, compounded ad waxed the entire boat, along with cleaning all windows and polishing stainless. Boat looks the best it ever has and with the salt and sun, ever will! Lol. So with today in the books ill stop updating. Now it's just time to get settled and boat!!! Thanks again to all of you for the encouragement, support and guidance. The people and info in this thread honestly helped make this decision for us. Thanks to all!!

Where did you end up docking?

We are at Mariner's Cay in the manatee pocket. Just doing month by month right now until we can spend a little more time checking things out. What's your thoughts on that one? Seems nice so far from the little we've seen.

uh oh. Sorry buddy. Hope it's quick fix! We're gonna go over there tomorrow and get the boat set up with bedding and stuff that we take off in the winter. Then get fuel and go explore!!
