Hi-Tek Stainless Steel manifolds

I also installed Hi-Tek headers at the end of the 2010 season, I used Mercruiser gaskets as I didn't like the way the supplied Chinese gaskets looked quality wise. I have two full seasons with no issues at all, I change the zincs every spring and check them prior to my autumn haul out and they show degradation so I know they are working. Allen recommended 25 lb/ft. of torque and as it was nearly impossible to get a torque wrench on most of the bolts we just guessed, no cracks or gasket issues. I can confirm Rod's claim of the way Allen stands by his product, the first set he sent me were for outdrive not V-drive engines so he replaced them no questions asked including shipping.

Dasch- wondering why so many post ref The SS cracking. I have to say, just as many post without problems. Is it the install? or just the luck of the draw. I really do like them and will decide by end of week, weather or not I am going to install them on my 8.1. Also, I am assuming I can use volvo penta gaskets? ...

Not sure why others cracked, when mine were installed my buddy said that we needed to tighten the bolts from the center out to the ends, don't know if that's the answer but two full seasons so far with no issues for me (knock on wood).

Do you remember what type of gaskets you used? I don't recall if the gaskets are included.

They sent me felt gaskets, and I replaced them with Mercruiser gaskets. I don't know how the mechanic tighten my bolts. He used SS lock washers, and I provided SS bolts. One set has been fine, no cracks, the other I had problems. I did have a constricted RW intake hose which cased my engine to over heat, but the manifolds that cracked where the two in board manifolds, one on the engine that over heated and the other not on that engine...

One plus of these manifolds, is ther is no chance of water intrusion, as the RW exits very far from the manifold...

If there is a metalergist on the site could they comment about SS and clorides in salt water what what effect they have on each other at different temperatures.

The gaskets that Allen sent me were very close to Mercruisers and actually fit better so I used them and returned the OEM ones.
