220 DA thread

Hi all, new 220da owner. Here's a pic of my new toy:

IMAG0433.jpg

I'm still trying to figure all the systems out, slowly but surely I am. Had it for 2 weeks and have taken it out once. Taking it out again tomorrow.

When installing the new stereo, I noticed 6 pairs of speaker wire, for 6 speakers. Two are in the cabin, 2 are above the little cubbies in the cockpit, but where are the other ones?

What I've done so far:
-Alpine bluetooth deck
-JL 7.7 speakers
-Added second battery and moved switch to cubby
-Added whale tail to hopefully help it plane faster

Here's a couple more pictures!

Danny, any bites yet? Zip on my end...

Looks like my 220 sold, or at least I have a $500.00 deposit. It killed me, but I only got 10k for it (including trailer). I put a lot of time and money into it, but I did enjoy the heck out of it for 3 seasons. He is having a surveyor go over it, so I'm not getting my hopes up, even though the boat is perfectly fine. I need to do this before the season ends, so I can easily sea trial my next boat, which is likely a 280 or 290. Definitely a bitter-sweet sale. I feel much worse than when I sold my last boat, but then again, it wasn't a Sea Ray. My next boat definitely will be.

hi guys, thought i'd post some pics of my 220da, she's a 1990 model & i live in england. I purchased the boat in late 2010 after it had been sat unused for 3years, I've been right through the boat & refurbed most parts, pics below

Thank you :) as always there are still plenty of little jobs to be done, but I got all the big stuff out the way.

Having said that, I may repower her with A diesel engine Some point in the future. I just don't know which engine to go for?

When you find the answer I'd really like to know myself I also have a 1990 220 no shower

Hope this helps. If you study the photo of the engine, you can see the seat base in its folded position & you can just make out the piano hige

Yes, the buyer picked it up yesterday. Letting it go for only 10k with trailer was a killer for me. It passed the survey without a problem. The surveyor spent about 5 hours going over it. I guess he had to justify the $590.00 tab! The biggest flaw he found was that it was overdue for bellows. Not that they were bad, but with about 5 of 6 seasons of use, they are due to be replaced. I have my eye on a '03 280, single 496 engine, and generator. I may finalize it this week.

Sweet! I just lowered mine to $9500. I have my eye on a 1989 300 Weekender...

I probably mentioned this before, but.... people will pay more for a new boat in bad condition, than an older boat in pristine condition. Just the way it is.

Just wanted to stop by and say hi ... I'm the guy that bought Danny's 1989 220DA Sundancer.

I'm putting together "my" list of mods ... got to keep up with the tradition ... one of them, I think, is going to be that windlass that Danny was thinking about. I like the "easy life"

Also ... I've already picked up a Garmin 740S GPS for it ... figuring out the best way to mount it .... I've got a couple of ideas. I Boat on the Hudson ... I want to be able to relax a little ... so GPS it is (with a transducer)

Talk to you all later ....

Well, I wimped out in regards to starting the engine. Just couldn't take that risk.

Instead, I started to take the tank out. I disconnected all 3 hoses. Removed the brackets holding the tank down in the aft cabin area. Tried lifting the tank but there isn't enough room too lift. Tank hits the aft cabin rear wall/bulkhead. There are screws at the top of this wall so I guess it comes out. Im in the process of removing everything on the engine side of this bulkhead.

I keep at it in a few days.

It's been awhile since this post. I have a 1990 220DA and the previous owner cut the top and stern panel faces off of the aluminum fuel tank and dropped in a new plastic fuel tank. Of course it's a bit smaller but fits rather well. He used expandable filler between the aluminum and plastic to wedge the new tank and prevent movement.

I was cleaning the attic and forgot all about the brand new Carver cover I purchased. It was never on the 220. Anyone interested in it? $200 plus shipping. It is a semi custom cover in burgandy. I dont have any of the straps or pole for it, they were not that great anyways. I am trying to find my reciept to see if it was the Polyguard or Sunbrella. It is a heavy material. Its not the cheaper duck material. I think it cost me 3 to 4 hundred dollars when I ordered it. Email me at nassaubluefrc at yahoo dot com if you are interested in it.

Hello everyone.

So now I'm fully read up on the 80 pages I'm bursting to get my 220DA next week. Great posts guys!!!

I'm towing it about 700miles from Cornwall in England to Loch Lomond in Scotland over 2 days but looking forward to the road trip.

I'm addicted to upgrades for my cars so I can see this easily being my summer addiction. It's engine is a 5.0merc but is damaged but is in good condition other than that.

I already have a Super Air Nautique too so it will be used purely for kiddies at the weekend and stuff with my girlfriend hopefully.

cheers
paul

Hi Folks,
Haven't posted for about a year, but we bought a 1989 DA last year which had a few problems, but got some good boating in on the intracoastal near sebastian, fl.'
I'm planning on doing a few improvements as posted on this site, but this year spent almost a week getting the boat sea worthy again.
It turns out that I had an exhaust boot leak on the starboard exhaust riser. (lower boot) This sprayed salt water on everything so it looked like it was leaking all over.
On a test run to find the leak, the engine started skipping.
Once I rinsed the engine off with clear water and dried it up, I hooked up water ears and found the split in the boot.

One boot was $55.00 , but required an addition $10 for a gasket because you have to remove the exhaust riser to get room to install the new boot.
It took me about 5 hours because of all the scraping of gaskets and rotobrushing the lower exhaust flange, in addition to a couple of trips to the marine store,
but the job was a success, and once again was able to reach cruise of 32 easily with no engine skips.
One of the ramifications of the salt spray was that the steering froze up, because the slide rod froze in the cylinder.
We were able to free that by using two heat guns on the cylinder for about 15 minutes while puting pressure on the wheel. Then with some silicone spray and wiping the rod,
the assembly freed up and acts again like normal.
I havn't done anything with the fresh water system yet, but we don;t have a flush toliet in ours, although there is a sink, and bath sink.
Looking forward to reading more posts. I'm planing on changing the headers at some point this summer.

Andy, that's really interesting as my engine is in bits due to salt water spraying everywhere too, and it sounds like it will be a similar job. Got any detail out how you cleaned it up and what procedure, any tips etc or products.

I was told salt water came up the risers into the engine but it sounds more like what you had.

any thoughts?
