Fire Island inlet this inlet needs dredging it is really getting bad

I've been eyeing these as the "next" boat. Must have diesels though... Most seem to have the Cats. What are you guys getting for mpg? I was hoping it might get close to 1 mile per gallon with diesels...

We just finished a 750 mile trip to the North Channel and used 770 gallons of diesel. We cruise at 2400rpm making 20-21kts and slow cruise at 1000rpm around 7.4kts. We spent most of our time in the North Channel at 7kts. I had expected a little better but we were loaded very heavy and had a couple travel days in 3 to 5' seas. We moved up from a 330 Dancer 2.5 years ago and have no regrets with about twice the boat and better economy.

For all you guys with the 8.3 Cummins what RMP do you normally cruise at.I have been running between 2200 to 2250.At 2250 I am averaging 24. 5 Kts .What do you guys thing is the most efficient RPM to run these motors. Thanks

Did you see this thread?
[h=3] 32 GPH Cummins[/h]

I also run at 2200 rpm's, get 24 - 25 knots and burn 24 gallons per hour. This is over 9 seasons with the boat.

The thread discussing 32 gallons per hour so far is on different boats, or the same blocks but different ECM's (480 CE's) which will not have the same results.

Thanks I am going to run at 2200 .This is optimum for the 40 DB

The built in vacuum on our '97 40' Sedan Bridge doesn't seem to have much suction power......I've changed bags (though I used a smaller/shorter bag - the neck fit the cannister) with no noticeable change.

Any tips if I've missed something will be greatly appreciated by the Admiral.

Thanks

Most likely something got stuck in the hose.

Hi,
I have a 2001 with the same engines. I pretty much cruse at 2200 to 2300 between 23 to 25 knots. I find that my fuel consumption with the genny running averages 23gph I think that is the sweet spot for these boats with the Cummins motors.

What do you guys have as your WOT with Cummins 450Cs?

I had Cummins survey my motors the tech reported 2680 and 2670 at WOT he recommended that I should have the wheels worked to get an additional 100 RPMs.I believe Tony Athens on boat diesel .com suggests 2800 top end for the Cummins 450 .What do you guys feel is the best RPM to run these motors for optimum longevity and fuel effiency.

The wife and I just spent a week on our new to us 40 Sedan bridge .It is scary how much we love this boat .We did not want to go back home LOL.

I have been looking at Tony's comments and thinking about working on the props. I would be curious to see what others have done/may do pros and cons etc.

Ours works exceptionally well. You may have a leak in one of the hoses or hose outlets.....

If I recall correctly the bulletin that Cummins published on this few years ago was calling for 2700RPMs as recommended RPMs.

Has anyone installed a rear view camera on there Sedan bridge

Yes I have the garmin camera as a cockpit/rear view camera and an additional camera in the ER. Both are hooked up to the master tv, and the bridge electronics
