Any Lake Lanier boaters on here?

We will be leasing a slip from Holiday when the boat is ready, probably 2-3 more weeks.

We did Sunset Cove for the first time this weekend. It was a lot of fun and my son liked the water park. I will say renting a slip was totally worth it.

I agree, we used to trailer our boats. But once we rented a slip, we'll never go back, worst case we would dry stack.

We currently dry stack our boat at Lazy Days.

The rented slip was at Sunset cove for the day, which if you do the SUnset Cove thing is worth the cost. Since I have a Sundeck renting the slip made getting into the water park and swimming a lot more fun. I would not want to beach the boat or tie up (since we don't know many people on the south end of the lake).

We used to dry stack at Lazy days, it was fine until we had the gel coat redone on the boat and one week later someone who parked beside us gouged the boat badly. Have you ever just hung out and watched some of these people park their boats?:wow: If al the slips weren't shared, I'd still keep the boat there. The benefits of keeping her high and dry are pretty nice.

Yes, some of the boats come in and park prety crazy. Being a new boat owner I probably don't help the odds much myself.

The main complaint that I have with Lazy Days is that with the covered dry stack the exhaust from the fork lifts stick to the boat. I am constantly wiping and rinsing off the boat.

Unfortunatly, it is so much closer than Port Royale for me. If I ever get tired of the dry stack I will just work on getting a slip in the water.

We had the same experience with the diesel soot. They moved us to the top of the front outside rack and that cured the problem. I don't think they can stack the boat we have now. The other downside for us was that we live 15 minutes away, if we decided at dinner we wanted to go take an evening cruise, we were out of luck if it was after 5. With it in the water, we can go anytime....but then you have to contend with bottom cleaning. Pros and cons at every turn.

I hope you all have a great fourth. I really tried to be out there but my girl is stuck in the shop of Gainesville Marina getting a new starboard engine installed.:smt089$6400 bucks and counting. I'll report after the wallet massacre.

Sorry to hear about this... We just launched ours yesterday after extensive work.

I hope my fellow Lake Lanier boaters have a safe fourth as well. It will be cooler than last weekend.

From the reports I've read, there were no incidents on Lanier on the 4th, and only a single BUI. I guess the Prince disaster shook up a bunch of people. We were out at Sunset Cove for the fireworks (after a leisurely day on the quiet and beautiful north end) and people were really making sure that other boaters were acting right. A couple of people tried to take off with no lights, and got spotlighted and hollared at until they made better choices. :)

That's good to hear, we broke down and were home by 5:30 that evening.

For those of you at Lanier, we have a nearly-new Nautica 10 Sport tender with a 20hp Mercury we're selling - it's currently in the water at Bald Ridge. I may bring it over to Sunset Cove this weekend. You can check out the listing (with pictures) in the Used Sea Ray's area on this forum and/or PM me for details.

Thanks,
Capt. Jason

Carter,

I don't want to post it on a public page that the SEs can pick up but if you or anyone wants to PM me I am happy to share my trip blog. In five weeks we traveled over 1,000 nautical miles, saw some incredible marine life (swimming pigs, sharks feeding, etc.), some amazing natural events (water spouts for example) and unfortunately hit some big unforseen weather in the Bahamas. We crossed the North Rock of Bimini to find ourselves running down the coast in 7-10 foot rollers, fortunately they were spaced out well (note that I don't even make runs if there are 5-6s being called for, this was a bit of a 'fluke' and unfortunately the wave forecasting in the Bahamas isn't nearly as detailed as it is in the US). On that leg we also had the interesting experience of one of my salon windows just vanishing - gone - big hole in side of boat where the window used to be and 3-4's splashing a LOT of water into the salon. All in all, quite an adventure and we saw many incredible places. Of everywhere we went, I think Staniel Cay in the Exumas was our favorite. Anyway, PM me if you want to read through the Blog.

Sincerely,
Capt. Jason

With all the rain in the upper Chattahoochee basin of late, why is Lanier only at 1062? The lake is down a foot since July 4th.

Has anyone ever figured out what the CoE is doing and why?

Doc

Yeah, I am wondering as well. The bridge to Lake Lanier islands is starting to get sketchy to go under now. I would hate to go around the island but if the lake gets much lower I may have to.

Hey jff, I saw your boat at Sunset Cove the last time I was there (would have been the Full Moon party in August). It is a very nice boat.

When you’re tooling along at 30 mph and the depth gauge reads 4 ft all the sudden you pray it’s an error. There are several areas on the lake that can be quite a surprise. (Will be out tomorrow to scare the crap out of myself again.)

Fortunately the lake seems to be hold its own at the moment. Wonder what September will bring...

Thanks RichmonS, much appreciated! Doc Garrett, be careful out there!
