I posted my motorcycle on Craigslist in Central PA. I actually bought my 270DA off Craigslist but went and looked at it in Ohio and took a bank check & cash with me. Here is a response I just got from VA for the motorcycle.

Good to have your reply,I am Annie ******, from southwest VA and would have love to come for further face to face inspection at your residence myself, but I am a US Army Reserves working as a flight doctor under the auspices of the aircraft Maintenance here in Virginia. I am buying this for my son in Warsaw,Poland as a surprise gift and understand i want you assure me it's in condition described. I will appreciate more pictures if available and will be sending your money asap. My shipper will be available to pick this up as soon as payment is made. Do you have paypal account? because, I have a paypal account that I can easily send money through because, its good for business payments. Get back to me with your paypal email address and name in order for me to have your money sent on time. Confirm sale to me and remove the add from posting.

Regards

Annie ******

Is this real or fake? I don't have a problem with getting paid by Pay Pal (do I have to pay a fee for this (3%)? Never sold anything and accepted money through them....only have paid others) but buying a 22 year old motorcycle as a surprise gift without riding it or hearing it run? I realize we are only talking $1500 but how do I transfer the Motorcycle Title to VA? Thanks for any advice, Mike.

It's a scam. I buy and sell a lot on CL. I unfortunately, that email is a VERY common scam attempted on CL, and even more unfortunate is that somewhere, someone is falling for it. You were very wise to see through it.

OH yeah, I have seen this a few times. Buying for sick father, or missing friend, or son in POLAND... If it isn't in person with cash on Craigslist I'm not selling it... Be careful who you give your pay pal stuff too. These people will get money any way they can...

I've never dealt with Paypal, but something here doesn't pass the sniff test and I'd like to get your opinions.

I listed some used a/c equipment on CL last night, get a text this morning and it went exactly like this:

HIM do you still have the 3.5 ton Rheem a/c unit - $400) available for sale? and what's the present condition, please get back to me ASAP Thanks

ME Yes good conditon been stored indoors

HIM Thanks for your swift response, I wanted to buy this item for my uncle, I really want it to be a big surpise to him. And as for the pick up and delivery, I'll not be able to come and pick it up due to nature of my job. I'm marine engineer and really don't have time. Am intending to use PayPal because that's the only electronic way I can make the payment online. Log into www.PayPal.com and click on register. After the registration you will need to send me your (text ended)

ME I could deliver it, would want cash upon delivery

HIM Sorry I have a private courier shipping companythat will come for the pick up after the payment has been made, all I need now is your PayPal email address to put the money thru and note to include the place where the itemhave to be pick up so I can forward it to my shipping company in order to get me the shipping cost Thanks.

What do you guys think, is this on the up and up or should I run away?

WOW, she must really love her son "in Poland" very much to buy him all this stuff!:grin:

:smt017:smt018 Run Forrest, RUN!!!

As previously stated, Mike, it's a scam. I wouldn't waste a second of your time even replying to the emails.

Thanks! I'd sell for less but this of course this was the first nibble, Mike.

Good luck. You will sell it fast, especially for the price and the time of year.

My thoughts exactly... And it is a clean looking bike... Good luck Mike. Stay away from people without cash in hand on CL!

The next request will be her telling you she will pay for shipping but you must purchase the necessary shipping and tariff permits and she'll make the arrangements. 100% scam. Anytime a buyer asks more questions about shipping and how they will pay instead of the actual item it means they are probably setting you up.

I sold a car on similar site. Got lots of emails on it, with comments like love it, can not view it, will pay by paypal, will send shipping agent. Cancelled add and reposted with this at end
Terms cash, purchaser must pick up. Sold in a few days and got cash in hand.

Scam. No doubt about it.

I had the same issue while selling another boat before. You have to be careful about bringing it to them or meeting them somewhere to let them see it as well. Two weeks ago a guy was selling a stereo and met the purchaser only to get ganged up on and beaten up by four guys robbed and they took the stereo. That happened here locally and the poor guy is still in the hospital.
