I think what really chafes my a** about getting "hosed" for fuel, is the fact that, not a drop would be coming out of the Middle East, if it weren't for the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force, and who has paid for all of that, not the oil companies, who are holding everyone here, hostage....hello a**holes, no "free lunch", we deserve a big break at the pump, for policing the whole g** d**m thing....am I wrong?

The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I looked up what I pay for electricity.
I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh.
16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery.
$18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery.
Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine only that gets 32 mpg.
$3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.
The gasoline powered car cost about $15,000 while the Volt costs $46,000.

Check your utility bill again. I think your kwh price is probably closer to .116 per kwh.
I could be wrong but if your numbers are right you have WAY more problems than the high cost of gasoline.

Don't blame DougLas. . . .he just reposted something he collected from the internet.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/chevyvolt.asp

It is one of those "See I told you so" emails that prove a point using . . . .made up numbers and contrived circumstances.

The email is references Eric Bolling, of Fox News, who had some critiques of the volt earlier this year. I suppose the name dropping is another part of the made up numbers and contrived circumstances. Not even REMOTELY CLOSE to real numbers, as others have pointed out. I am not sure the real Eric would back those numbers. (If he does, then we can discuss that)

Prices went up another $.20 a gallon over night here.....I guess my boat and truck will not be going any where. I am driving the admiral's car to work now. It used to cost about $25 to fill, now it is over $51 and it last 3-days for the commute. So much for the economic recovery.

I am considering pulling the Sea Ray and letting sit on the trailer this summer.

Well maybe I need to change boats to save on gas (I had the middle one in mind but not sure):

That got some thoughts rolling. As stated I did not write it just postd it. Some do beliave what they read no matter where to be the truth. Point made here no one really knows why the gas is at the price it is. Speculators driving the cost? Alot is written alot is said all-in-all everything suffers prices go up do to the shippers, be it truck, train, or what ever mode passing the fuel cost on to the consumer.

We all worry about the weather being good during boating season but what about $4 or more a gallon for gas? I run our Gas Dock at the club so I see the rollercoaster on our costs and we only charge .25 more per gallon above our cost. I guess if gas hits $5 a gallon I'll be using shore power to charge my batteries more than running the 454. When can we fire the US Energy Dept? They have 1800 employees and have failed our country and have done nothing as far as I know. Gas prices have doubled in the past 3 years, Mike.

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultzin 2005, then a new member of Congress, regularly attacked then-President Bushfor high gas prices, warning we would consistently see gas above $3 a gallon. The Kerry/Edwards Campaign in 2004 said, "Americahas failed to turn the corner on energy independence or reliability. Under theBush-Cheney Administration, we have become MORE dependent on foreign oil andgas prices have soared too [sic] new highs, not only stretching the family budget, but adding difficult costs to business and threaten our economicsecurity."In 2007, Hillary Clinton said,"With oil nearing $100 a barrel and gas prices over $3 per gallon,Americans are feeling the pain of seven years of a failed Bush-Cheney energypolicy," the LA Times reported. Then Senator Barack Obama "speakingat a town hall meeting Thursday in Ottumwa, Iowa, also reminded voters of therecent rise in gas prices." Mr. Obama continued, "Washington hasignored the economic pressures facing the working class" and "Threedollars a gallon in November—that's never been seen before."In 2008, Nancy Pelosi "blasted" the presidentas reported on ABC San Francisco, "The speaker blames what she labels theBush-Cheney big oil agenda, using graphics to point outgasoline prices have more than doubled in the Bush administration. 'This is ascam of the greatest magnitude,' says Speaker Pelosi." Now that the gas pricesare at the highest levels in history, when has the media blamed Obama's"big oil agenda?" When do critics in the mainstream media or NancyPelosi call Obama's handling of high cost of fuel, a "scam"? 2006, Barbara Boxer said, "Since George Bushand Dick Cheney took over as president and vice president, gas prices have doubled... They are too cozy with the oilindustry" Here are someheadlines from Bush years:April 25, 2006:Democrat Bob Fertik: "Bush's policies have raised gasoline prices from an8-year average of $1.15 under President Clinton to $3 today" April 26, 2006 : High gas prices fuel further decline inBush's poll ratings [gas prices just under $3.00/gal]

In 2006:"Impeach Bush/Cheney" petition was circulated [as gas prices were$2.65/gal]

In 2007: "How Bush pushed gas prices sky high."

Any thoughts on getting rid of taxes on all sources of energy? I think it's a good idea personally.

Energy users need to pay for their infrastructure needs through taxes associated with the energy they use. Cars and trucks for roads, boats for marine services such as ramps, electrical for all its needs. This money should NEVER be used as the general fund income it is. With the gas tax we should have gold plated roads, instead bridges are crumbling while they spend gas tax on everything else.

So am I wrong in saying that when Dems are in control, gas prices rise?

Don't you know.....It's George Bushes fault! Who's in bed with the Oil Companies?......looks like Obummer! Yea....we're screwed either way. We now have expensive gas that goes bad without Stabil and gets poor gas mileage to boot. We may soon have to plug in our converted electric "Coal Boats" and save the Earth, Mike.

Correct. You are wrong.

Poor energy/tax/financial/foreign//entitlement/education/environmental/commerce/banking policy is a characteristic of both parties.

EDIT: Correction: You are NOT wrong. When Dems are in control, gas prices rise. In addition, when Repubs are in control, gas prices rise.

You are 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% correct!

So it's just coincidence that in 06 when the dems took the house and senate my home value dropped and gas went to 4.00 and ever since they have been in charge energy prices have steadily increased? Dems want you to drive some schitbox while they "jet" around preaching against consumption!!! Please...give me a break...LIBS SUCK!!!

You are 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% correct!

Really!!! Where is the return on that 50 year investment????? The "foreign aid" and armies that we have dumped there for the last 50 years, what is that? You should get free fill ups if you have been a U.S. taxpayer, veteran, etc....

I think everyone needs to expand your view. It is not either party or the government that controls oil prices. When we followed nationalism, our government could control oil prices. But the push to free markets and globalization has create the global market. Even if 100% of the oil & gas the US uses was produced in the US why would the prices come down? The government does not own the oil companies. These oil companies are global. If other countries are will to pay premium prices for the oil, our gas prices would be still high and climbing. As it is now, in 2008, the US started to export gasoline and diesel because our consumption of these products has been dropping and the new oil boom in the US. Why would these oil and gas companies sell product for less than what they can get in another country?

I think this article may explain our problems:

This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be. The article below is completely neutral, neither anti-republican or democrat. Charlie Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It's a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering!

545 vs. 300,000,000 People
-By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees...

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!
